Hello my friends.
Just wondering if Mother Love was last take from Freddie in may and after that he never come back.
What did he do last 6 months..
Sorry for bad english.
Hope you understand me and that.you can post some interesting things..
Cheers
That's the way it's told. However, this is Queen zone. Someone of course might suggest that Freddie went back to the studio perhaps just to listen to a mix.
But it's been told several times by Brian that Freddie wasn't up to recording the last verse - and he never came back afterward.
For info on the remaining months of his life you could read Jim Hutton' s book MERCURY AND ME, and Peter Freestone's memoir. Pick and choose your "facts" because some recollections are a bit different than others.
Freddie's last confirmed (Justin Shirley-Smith) vocals are from May 91' ( Mother Love)
Like Matt has mentioned above, he maybe returned to the Mountain Studios just to supervising things or even adding a single "Yeah" ...but actually there is no prove for that.
I read in an article one year ago that the band some kind of dinner with Freddie on a restaurant in Montreux, somewhere in September 1991, but the article never mentioned any recording sessions whatsoever. A wild guess is that Freddie composed parts of A Winter's Tale in September 1991, but Brian did not attend these session (he was on the "radio tour" promoting the album), and that's why he never met in the studio with Freddie after their final session together when they recorded Mother Love. Freddie must have felt that he couldn't finish off the vocals for Mother Love, but he could still compose, play bits on the piano, and write some new music. And that's what he did. He kept making music till he couldn't do it anymore, then he went back to England and stopped taking his medications, which, at this point, had stopped working and instead started intoxicating his body.
A Winter's tale was his final composition (except the guitars and drums that was added afterwards off course). The other tracks were fixed by the band in 1993, that's my guess. Maybe bits from You Don't Fool Me were recording during the period May - September 1991. We will never know. Brian, John and Roger is protecting Freddie (Who wouldn't??) and they seem to hold on to that date "22 may 1991" as the last Freddie recording session date.
It's highly likely that the answer to this question is as mundane as Freddie was too ill to work around that time, or at least too ill to sing. Singing takes a huge physical effort, especially the stuff that Freddie was doing on Mother Love, and when you're not very well, even one phrase can knacker you. He may well have gone in and played some synth here and there, or sat in at the mixing stage, but my personal and completely unconfirmed suspicion is that he simply gave them words and melody, and then didn't supervise the mix as he was trusting the others to complete it.
Quite probably Freddie at first thought he might make it to the end of the sessions and see the album released (in which case it wouldn't have had Let Me Live or Beautiful Day, or the Mr Bad Guy tracks on it), but then I think as the months progressed he realised it wasn't possible. We don't even know if Freddie knew that they would use the Mr Bad Guy songs, Let Me Live, My Life Has Been Saved, Too Much Love, or if he thought they'd release a single or EP.
Stupid thread asking what did freddie do in last 6 months!
He was seriously ill and was dying thats what!
Not a very educated thread and in my opinion insensitive.

Your opinion, as usual is surplus to requirements.
I wouldn't talk too loudly about "not [...] very educated and [...] insensitive" if I were you, gerry. That'll come back to bite you in the ass faster than you can alienate people.
Well, David Richards has said (interview in the recent Days of Our Lives docu) that Freddie did visit the studio while the other members were absent so maybe he did some work (mixing, piano) during those final 6 months.
thomasquinn: you mean like you have been bitten on the ass for saying stupid things too thomas eh!
ive seen some of your replies on here in the past and you have come off worst!
Haha. I'm willing to bet that if there were a PEACE AND LOVING KINDNESS TO YOU ALL ON MY QUEEN THEMED WEDDING DAY topic it would just as quickly spiral into insults and degraded hatred. Lol.
QZ... gotta love it.
Yes of course he was succombing to the effects of the syndrome. However, post May he may have returned to the studio. If anybody would've known it would have been David Richards
Well, at least no-one mentioned Adam Lambert
