This is a bit introspective so forgive me ... But today a friend and I set off for lunch at probably the best, most popular place in our town and upon entering the first thing to meet my ears is .... "When a red hot man meets a white hot lady!"
And my first thought is what the hell? Headlong right here, right now - blaring above me? A really cool moment. I'm thinking I've NEVER heard Queen in here, not in 14 years of coming to the place (America afterall) and how is it that I walk in and Headlong is the hot song?
So ...... I interpret this mysterious happening as follows: Something is going on. Something unknown, but something. Is it because QAL just came thru a month ago? I don't know. But some kind of enlightenment just happened. Almost as rare as a crop circle!
By the way I have a fresh appreciation for the place and their new found musical taste because Headlong is a good rocker.
So there you have it.
that is kinda cool......my biggest surprise of hearing a Queen song played in public was hearing Thank God Its Christmas played at work.....(around xmas time of course)..........cant remember if it was Taco Bell or KMart...........
I'm hearing u.s. radio are playing a lot more Queen of late, so the tour has definitely raised the profile, which will be good news for the album release.
I keep myself getting surprised when I hear ANY music from Queen, even WWRY, WATC and Bo Rhap playing here where I live. I'm from Brazil, and my little city can't support great music and stuff, apparently. They just can't. All I hear from the streets, restaurants and etc is the worst kind of music EVER. Like this: link
._.
bronogorski, I'm living in the same situation, with the same songs, BTW. Looks like radios from South America (Argentina in my case) are shit compared to other places like Europe and North America. I feel very happy when in the TV, in the radio, or in the beach (?) people play Queen songs. Even Cool Cat, but in that case I don't feel proud.
Situations when I feel happy about Queen songs:
Hearing Love Of My Life live in Budapest when announcing Queen Live At The Rainbow
When the Buenos Aires tape appeared. :D
In the radio almost anyone plays good music like Queen, Led Zeppelin, etc., but when someone played The Show Must Go On, I almost. ;_;
In Germany you can hear the same songs day by day again and again and again: Break Free, Radio Gaga, Crazy LittleThing, A Kind Of Magic, You Don't fool Me, Friends Will be Friends.......aaaaaaaaaaaaargh. I wished they'd play the lesser known songs like Breakthru , Invisible Man, Let MeLive......
My greatest moment of hearing Queen on the radio was a long time ago. I live in Denmark and cant uite remember the occation. It was around 1996 or maybe 1995 because of the Made In Heaven release. But on national radio they had a theme called Three From One or something. And they talked a bit about the three songs about the similarities and musicstyles in the songs and then they played them. And i was stunned! The played Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon, Seaside Rendezvous and Good Old Fashioned Loverboy. It was an excellent thing!

Interesting.
In Canada and the US, it's Killer Queen, BoRhap, Best Friend, Somebody To Love, Rock You, Champions, Fat Bottomed Girls, Crazy, Dust, Under Pressure.
Queen does not exist on this side of the world after 1981, and their albums do not exist - just the hits.
^I second this reply from Mr.Bed Guy... lots of stations in Germany like to play the mediocore mid 80's tunes like Radio GaGa, IWTBF,AKOM and the like...
The Show must go on does also get a lot of airplay in Germany.
But once I heard Man on the Prowl...that was somehow cool.
Couple of weeks ago I was in a bar where they played the whole Innuendo CD...man that was fabulous!!
It always makes me kind of sad when the 'Oldie Stations' play Queen music...
