Hello Im new to the site and hope you will be alright with allowing me into your wonderful but sometimes infuriating community . So hope you can answer this |

I remember the first song I heard is "Was It All Worth It". This excellent song was shown by my dad in his player. |
GERRYISADICK 18.07.2014 21:29 |
Never heard that one but I sure will now thanks for replying |
GERRYISADICK 18.07.2014 21:31 |

BoRhap. I was 10. It changed everything. |

The first song I remember hearing was Princes of the Universe, in the beginning of the Highlander movie. Who Wants To Live Forever was the song that made me listen to the just-released GH2 (and GH1) album, and become a Queen fan. |
eYe 19.07.2014 01:57 |
Bohemian Rhapsody. On the radio. Strange thing is that I remember exactly the song played before, the last song before the final gong of Bo Rhap made me a Queen fan: Pop Muzik by M. |
KJ 19.07.2014 01:59 |
First song I heard was We are the Champions. It was in 1988 when Holland won the european championschip football. I was 7 then and loved the song. My sister made me a cassette with various Queen songs and I couldn't stop playing the tape. |

I want to break free - i was 5 when it was in the chart. I saw the video on top of the pops. It scared the living shit out of me. |
Vali 19.07.2014 02:13 |
Radio Ga Ga and I Want To Break Free. It was 1984/85 and watched both videos on TV. 10 minutes later I was sold to Freddie's hypnotic seduction powers, hahahahaha.... and I was only 8 years old!! I can also clearly remember watching Bo Rhap on TV those days, and being completely fascinated for the fact that Freddie Moustache and Freddie Long Hair were the same guy..... while the guitar player looked exactly the same ;-) |

First song I ever heard was keep yourself alive, on a very crackly radio, late at night listening to Radio Luxembourg, I remember thinking at the time that it wasn't anything special, but later I saw them perform killer queen on top of the pops, I was hooked, went to see them live in Manchester two weeks later for the first of many times ! |
Chief Mouse 19.07.2014 03:22 |
We Are The Champions. I think I was thinking that this voice has a perfect tone and pitch. I remember being generally fascinated by the whole thing. And after doing some search I found it hard to believe that the guy who recorded WATC in '77 looked so much different in the 80s. |

I couldn't remember...how simple is that ? Queen had massive airplay on german radio stations since BoRhap. You can label me as a fan since Live Aid / A kind of Magic ( from todays point of view really not their best piece of music) |

SSOR - I was in first year at Grammar School..and everyone was into Cream/Zep and Sabbath - the arty types were into Genesis, Crimson & Yes. Anyhow, I really loved SSOR - still do, then along came Killer Queen (which funnily enough I can now take or leave it) but those songs sealed it for me.... After spending my early years listening to dad's Beatles & Small Faces stuff (both long gone) I now had a new interest....and Bo Rhap affirmed this. However, I remember distinctly revising for a school test, listening to late night radio (again Luxembourg) the first time I heard Somebody To Love...and f**king WOW!!! vocally there's nothing to beat it and as songs go it's complete....lyrically, stylistically and the harmonies are pure soul...it really doesn't matter what I'm doing - if it's playing wherever I am I stop and listen to it thru - almost forty years later, I never tire of that song. |

Seven Seas Of Rhye.....on Radio Luxembourg, here in The Netherlands,Radio Luxembourg was in those days thé radio station for the best music. |

SSOR on the radio. I loved the sound but didn't catch the DJ saying who the band was. Then a few months later Killer Queen, I went to buy the single but came away with The Sheer Heart Attack album and Queen 2! |
MadTheSwine73 19.07.2014 09:48 |
Although I probably heard We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, and Bo Rhap as a kid (growing up in a household where Queen and rock music was basically what we listened to, and still is), the first song I really listened to and liked was, surprisingly, Bicycle Race. I think I was 7 or 8, because that was when Episode III of Star Wars came out, and hearing "I don't like Star Wars" shocked me. I then borrowed my sister's copy of Greatest Hits, and here we are today. |
GERRYISADICK 19.07.2014 10:06 |
Madtheswine73 that probably was the case with me hearing we will rock you and we are the champions before even becoming a queen fan because those two songs are played alot more than some of the bands other hits |
Stelios 19.07.2014 12:04 |
The Show Must Go On. I was 12. It unlocked a hole new world in terms of feelings, aesthetics,view-point in life. It literally changed me. Then i realised a lot of songs i knew, like radio gaga, i want it all, we will rock you, we are the champions e.t.c. were by that same special band. I bought GH2 later the same year. I was stuck for life.(Now 34y.o.) |
master marathon runner 19.07.2014 12:17 |
Ssor . I remember knocking about the streets in '74 and we were all savvy as to what great music was at the time and we knew this was something special .then 6 months or so later, killer queen, and I immediately thought there'd never been anything like this before, then now im here kept up the form.off I went I to town to get now im here and hope killer queen was still available (how unbelievable I didn't just buy SHA!),anyway,, I got home and eagerly commissioned the old radiogram and started to play my 2 new records, after a few spins I turned them over, played lily of the valley and then had my 'road to Damascus ' moment, I couldn't believe the exquisite sound of that song, it obliterated anything that had gone before, it was completely new ground musically. And so I set out to buy the 3 albums as soon as I got the funds, and.......the rest is history.. Great post this, and the replies. |
GERRYISADICK 19.07.2014 12:25 |
Wow SSOR is the first song for alot of you but i must agree it is one of the best songs they did |

I grew up listening to Queen as both my parents are huge fans. But the very first song that I remember made a big impression was We Will Rock You. I was just 5, and was fascinated by the stomping! |

Noorie I envy you for growing up with queen |

noorie, for me it was Bo Rhap, I was 5 and mesmerised by Freddie, and then Roger (who I thought was some kind of witch.....I didn't have a label to attach to Freddie, had no idea what he was, hence my fascination). They were more intriguing than anything I got from fairy tales at the time. |

Jeffab1995, you have stirred up a lot of good memories for everybody! |

Jefffab, I get the impression that, although you appreciate Queen, you have only, thus far, dipped your toe in the water. You stand in an enviable position, in that you have a fantastic catalogue to discover, a veritable treasure trove to peruse. I think you'll enjoy it. Welcome to QZ. |

noorie wrote: Roger a witch? He looked more like a princess!!!! Now Freddie I could see as a witch of sorts...Sounds daft now, but I was a 5 yr old girl, that was a high pitched hag, not a princess, lol. Love Roger really. |

Master marathon runner you are correct There is still so much for me to discover and learn about this great band I hope all of you would be able to help me along if i stumble on the way |
SmokyQuartz 20.07.2014 05:37 |
Yep, thanks Jeffab1995 for a great thread topic. Interesting to see how most people were gripped by their first impressions. |

SmokyQuartz your welcome I hope I made everyone remember the moment they heard queen because for me it was magic It seems it was for everyone else as well |

The Show Must Go On when it was released as a single. I was 8 and instant fan. Liked the complete Innuendo album, copied GH1 + II on cassette tape. After that The Miracle and A Day At The Races. Than Freddie dies... Although I was only 8 i remember feeling sad about his dead. After that I collected all the LPs and listened to no other music than queen for about 5 years. A Night At The Opera was the first vinyl i've ever bought. I think I was 9 or so when I bought that LP. |

I heard Radio Ga Ga over the radio and was attracted by the lyrics. When I had the chance to go to a record shop, I looked for a CD with this song and it was on the Live Magic album that I found the song. I bought it and listened to it very often but did not pursue the band due to a busy career. Many years later when I heard Freddie's The Great Pretender on the radio, I was hooked completely by his voice. Immediately after that, I went all out like an addict to buy the whole lot of Queen stuff, including documentaries about Queen. |

Bo Rhap, on the second disc of Music Of The Millennium. Which in turn led to the infamous scene in Wayne's World (and loving the whole film in general), and then the Platinum Collection... the rest is history. |

1981 or 1982 I kept listening to Flash Gordon on Dad's greatest hits and kept hearing the start of SSOR directly after. Eventually SSOR because my favourite (mix of Sci Fi and rocking like FG) and then gave the whole album a go. After that my brother got me a crackling tape copy of the debut album (50p!) and I couldn't believe it was the same band. then I got NOtW and the AKOM 7". then Live Magic when it came out. Good days! |

My elder brother forced ;) me to listen to White Queen and March of the Black Queen over and over again, day after day. He liked the songs so much and "this fantastic new band called Queen". I wasn't that impressed way back then, but now I like to listen to these songs. I became a fan when Killer Queen came out. |
madprofessorus 24.07.2014 16:32 |
My first contact with Queen's music was in 1989,a local TV station was playing I Want it All videoclip, without giving any info on what it was showing,so I didn't knew what it was that thing I was listening...sure blew me away of course |
Stelios 24.07.2014 16:40 |

I dont know what the first song i listened to was,but the song that got me into Queen was Bohemian Rhapsody. I watched a parody video called BoHe-manrhapsody,link i was amazed at the song,my interest built from there,Queen is now my favorite band. |
Martin Packer 29.07.2014 07:15 |
For me it was Killer Queen in 1974. But I didn't like Queen as a band as they didn't smile in any of their publicity shots at the time. Yeah, I know: superficial. :-) Then along came BoRhap and all doubt was dispelled. :-) |

We Will Rock You in 1992. Then Greatest Hits over and over and over again the following days on vacation on a Greek island called Chios, in the family (rented) car. |

We Will Rock You in 1991. For obvious reasons Queen had a lot of airplay in radios at that time. I was very little, but very, very little (i don't even started school then). And i liked the song. I didn't know who were Queen or Freddie, or why the radio sations were repeating that song so much. I thought that song was composed by some black african band. Years later i rediscovered Queen via Greatest Hits. But i remember the first record i bought with my own money was Queen I (late '90s early '00s) and i listened for hours. |

Can't distinctly remember which song I'd heard. It was most likely wwry/watc in some effect First song I remember was probably Somebody To Love. I remember being enthralled with the ending chant. First time I knew who the band was and listened to anything of theirs on a home recording was a cigarette cassette of LIVE KILLERS. Used to LOVE the bit in Dreamers Ball.... made me crack up AND feel the sentimentality of the song |
