Hi there!
I'm really sorry and I apologize, something went wrong when I tried for the first time!
Here is one question, if anyone wants to deal with this!
In 2008 I went to Belgrade to se Queen and Paul Rodgers.
To my great surprise on the bus was about 20% metal fens.
I asked them “what you are doing here, this is not your kind of music”.? They said, “Queen is institution, we wanted to see this concert”? Ok, all well and good! Then I asked them “what song they like the most”? I was sure they would say Stone Cold Crazy or of course Bohemian Rhapsody. But, i was so surprised when they said I Want to Break Free.
Even today I can not explain exactly why this song.
What do you think?
Have fun!
Sorry for bad english.
Queen are a seminal band for the heavy metal style. Don't get why you are so surprise, They are pionneers on the speed metal...actually, they were doing speed before they even know what it was. Rob Halford was coted saying they were the heaviest band he ever saw in a concert when he was young. Queen didi a lot of styles, but they were heavy metal masters...when they wanted to get heavy, they really did.
Queen outheavied the heavy metal bands by quite some way on some of their early material. Ogre Battle for instance, is an exceptionally heavy and modern metal sounding track for 1973 when it was recorded.
I was a kid when Queen were in their pop phase, that sort of pop music was what appealed to me as a kid. I credit their illustrious and eclectic career with getting me into heavy guitar rock, as it was working backwards from Radio Ga Ga that got me there.
It's not wierd if somebody is a heavy metal fan. It's strange that they chose I Want To Break free, why this song! Why not, for example. Stone Cold Crazy, Ogre Battle, Great King Rat, Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll, White Man, I Want It All, Gimme the Prize ...
All I want to say is that I Want Break Free is a pop song!
