I bought 2 LPs from American Autograph Autentication Service of Redmond, Wa on Ebay and they came with Certificates of Authority. Is/Was this a reliable company?

No, unfortunately, they are not reliable. They are or were the authentication company for Autographs America, which as far as we know sells nothing but forgeries. Upload the albums if you'd like and get some opinions. Sorry to give you bad news. link
Urrrr.... this record is part of the auction of the Free Record Shop in the Netherlands (due to bancrupty).
See: link
So it would be surprising if they had fake items hanging in their stores...
I'm forever reporting what look to be fakes to ebay, but never get any joy. There's a guy selling a Led Zep signed LP, and it was sitting at just £58 with minutes to go, and no reserve. No COA, no words about provenance, where it was obtained, or how. All the signatures looked to be same handwriting. I'd think that if I had a gen-up signed Zeppelin LP in my possession, and wanted to sell, I'd at least have a reserve on it.

Yeah, I mean why not??? But wouldn't a public execution work just as well? Any more thoughts...
Unfortunately, it does not surprise me that there are many fakes on Catawiki. My experience shows that the so-called expert auctioneers have no expertise in their respective fields on many occasions at all.
They cannot distinguish real items from fake. Sometimes it seems they have no idea about what they are doing, and their price estimates have nothing to do with the reality.
Recently I read an article on smartshoppingschool.com and it correlates with my experience. It shows how unprofessional these "expert" auctioneers are. Although this article is mainly about jewelry and gemstones it gives good insight into how those "experts" work. It cannot be excluded that they benefit from allowing sales of fake items...

^ wouldn't you rather have a nicely made bootleg than a fake signature? One is a document of a real event, one is....a fake signature lol
*scratches head* :p (don't hit me, I'm old)
Dang! The flaw in my logic! It's the principle though - you can't blast one set of people for making cash out of something dubious while celebrating another.
I think to be honest these days I'd rather have a nice item with fake signature that I can impress my pals with. Ask me 15 year ago though..
please..this is not the post of the german based bootleger.....this one comes for one much earlier....
my last posts are on bootlegger and on the queenline as novastar....different names, same people...
wrote last weeks several times on this amazing site and the queenline site about the fake signatures....
