Anyone know/have any ideas as to why Queen didn't include Spain on many of the European legs of their tours? They played some dates there in 1979 and didn't go back until the magic tour, as you all know of course. Also noticed that they didn't visit Portugal. |

Queen toured countries where they had good album sales. It could be Hot Space and Works didn't sell well over there. Search youtube for queen interview italy 1984 : there you will have your questikn answered by Brian. |

But quite strangely... they played in Barcelona for the 1st time in1974! Ah... if only I had the chance to take a ride on a DeLorean..... |

They played in Barcelona in 1974, by Emi as promoter. In Live Killers tour, by Gay Mercader, one of the best promoters in Spain, for not say the best. He booked in Spain for the first time Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Michael Jackson, etc, etc... And in The Magic Tour, by Pino Saglioco, important promoter, but not so good as Gay Mercader. Pino is more flamboyant, in the band sense. I know in The Works tour they were offered to Gay Mercader, but refused because he did'nt like The Works. Now, in terms of bussines, said it was a mistake. He likes the 70's albums. Gay Mercader was in the first concert in Barcelona, and the other two he organized in 1979, Madrid and Barcelona. |

Full of Spaniards.... |
Apocalipsis_Darko 03.10.2013 19:27 |
Anything bad about spaniards? Robert, we can talk in Spanish for our friend mooghead ;) I talked with him a few times by phone asking him about Queen, Héroes del Silencio and other bands.. Very special person. Yes, he told me about how were the concerts in 79 (spectacular), also about the spanish music press, except Popular1, didn't like Queen...something happens until today, but now there are other magazines like This is Rock that support Queen. Freddie was very correct and shy in the dinner they had together. Also told me Brian was a little...well, how to say polite, he wanted to have more atention, like being in a band like Van Halen if you know what I mean.. He did bussines with Gerry Stickles, not with Jim Beach. He said very good words about Gerry Stickles. Also told me about John Reid, because he worked with John Reid and Elton John, not when John Reid was the Queen manager. Not very good words about John Reid and Elton John, he said they were always like drama queens, and was a good new when Elton John left John Reid. |

Spanish press is shit, i saw some clips on youtube and are embarrasing at best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nszLbuQws6E here, 20 minutes of unprofessional slaughtering http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpP-3AaQr14 in this, they are almost glad because he died http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO-CTLENk58 Good thing Freddie don't wears spanish flag in the video but the catalonian one. |

Well Doga, Queen were, and are a band very respect and love by people in Spain, a lot of succesfull. In the radio are always playing Queen songs. Other thing is the media....The almost press is shit, but also is shit in UK (remember The Sun, News of the world, etc...), so...you know, don't say this about the flag (and to be honest, Im not a patriotic), because in all the world the press is like that, included USA or UK. I hope you understand it. Not too much good press out there in the world, in general. To be honest, I don't like flags, is only old merchandaising ;) Something interesting about spanish colors flag, is about the Freddie's clothes. He wanted to dress with spanish colours in The Magic Tour, and Diana Moseley did different variations. The yellow, the white(that was for I was born to love you, solo single), and the white and red. |

link link This both are the spanish magazines who respect Queen from the beginning to the end (1991) |

You will find critics and supporters in all countrys when it comes down to "QUEEN" or Freddie Mercury. Don't waste your time in comparing the press with each other .These kind of storys by concert promoters you can find in all countrys, in Germany was it was "Fritz Rau" who said some things about Queen. In the end it's mainly buisiness and a piece of self production. |

They are made by the goverment television, aired in the main news program of the week. No doubt Queen has fanbase in Spain, but... see the problem? They aren't very different than russian in politics... |
Apocalipsis_Darko 04.10.2013 07:57 |
Well, public tv in Spain is not the best of the world...comparing to BBC, who is one of the best. But is bad not for the politics, is bad because they have bad journalist in generla! hahaha. |
greaserkat 04.10.2013 10:28 |
I saw Heroes Del Silencio here in Los Angeles in 2008. Not my cup of tea, but I wouldn't mind seeing La Union or Hombres G though... |

Apocalipsis_Darko wrote: comparing to BBC, who is one of the best. But even the Beeb are a tapestry now IMO. A lot of what they do is great, but a lot of what they do is not. A couple of days ago they wasted 10-15 minutes talking about air guitar and interviewing an air guitar world champion or something like that, all the way from America ... I mean, isn't there anything else worth broadcasting? Any wars, shipwrecks, financial news, etc.? Most of the time, BBC are brill, but sometimes I do wonder if I'm just watching at some amateurish rejects from a mediocre journalist school. |
pua 04.10.2013 16:02 |
i have always wondered if freddie wears the spanish flag in madrid and marbella, never seen a pic..that marbella concert by the way wasnt promoted by pino.. i would have liked to speak to mercader, so many things to ask about those 4 gigs..he's a legend...he's kind of retired now i believe. i have some spanish press clippings from 1976 talking about an spanish tour that year too.. popular 1 is one of the best european music magazines of the seventies.Bertha always rocked and she was a good freddies friend, she went to many parties and birthdays.. |
Apocalipsis_Darko 04.10.2013 16:29 |
Héroes del Silencio are like The Cult or The Mission, first goth rock, later hard rock. They were a good band in the active years, the comeback was stadium rock for money. Roberto, Freddie weared with spanish flag at the end of the concerts in Madrid and Marbella. Gay is retired, yes. Can you share that 1976 clippings? Thanks! Well, Bertha was only a journalist who met Freddie , other thing is what she said . Have a nice chat with someone and take a photo with them, don't make you being a friend ;) |
