Hello all. I own a 1975 first pressing of Queen - 'A Night At The Opera' (EMTC 103 (1)) "MR BLAIR'S CUT" Matrix: YAX 5063 -6 / -5. Now I did a bit of research about the LP itself but there is one thing that's bothering me.
Inside the Gatefold sleeve there is a logo under the 'cast' section, well there's two... EMI and Trident. I looked everywhere to find out why but it came to a dead end. To my knowledge, Queen left Trident and went with EMI.
Can anyone tell me why there is a Trident logo?
Welcome on board,
EMI was the label that published Queen's albums and singles. Trident stays for the studio where the music was produced. It was/is in St. Annes Street in London Soho. The sign is still there so it might be active still. The song "Death on Two Legs" is dedicated to the former owner Norman Sheffield who was blamed to fuck up Queen with bad contracts.
regards, W
Fascinating.
This wouldn't be the first time that Trident tried to cash in on Queen product after their less than amicable split, should this be the case..
Any chance you can post a photo/scan of the sleeve?
I'm sorry but I don't get the point. I'm sure that all realeases of the album are showing the trident logo. For sure the german pressing, the white vinyl realease from France and even the new pressing from Israel in my cupboard. Maybe there are songs on it that were produced in that studio so that they had to bring the logo up.
regards,
W.
Trident was still paying for The recording studios Of ANATO . This was The period in which success was coming so The band asked for more money but they solved their position while opera was going to be ultimated... So I think it's correct that Trident Logo appears.
About first ANATO pressing in LP there are earliest Matrix numbers ending with -2/-2 forthe issue

The inclusion of the Trident logo on ANATO (and, at the time, the next two albums after that) was a specific condition of the settlement Jim Beach negotiated with Trident in '75. The band subsequently bought themselves out of that commitment in 1977 for £303,000.
