Nice story, well done Brian link |

Guess Sir Pat must've been borrowing heavily off the house's equity to pay for all those telescopes and parties! Anyway, well done Brian. |

Oops, just reading Bri's soapbox. Seems he's not happy this story is out |

I had a sense when I read the article initially that Brian wouldn't be entirely happy about it. When these things are done quietly it's often not only about the humility of the giver but the dignity of the receiver. Unfortunately, while I understand Brian's Soapbox response, it actually serves to emphasize the very impressions Sir Patrick's friends and benefactors would have preferred to avoid. His honour would likely have been served better with a finesse of the issue rather than a Soapbox rant. |
inu-liger 17.12.2012 13:30 |
Was it even posted on his soapbox for real? I don't see ANY mention on his website |
GratefulFan 17.12.2012 14:00 |
Interesting. It does seem to be gone, but it was definitely there. It was a two or three paragraph rant about how grubby the press was, figuratively digging through dustbins and such, and that what was done for Sir Patrick was meant to be among friends. It ended with something like "is this the kind of journalism we want in this country?". So, not sure why it's now down, but as I said earlier I think it's better that it's not there. I guess Brian thought so too, though I have to say it's a (perhaps irrational) pet peeve of mine when things disappear from the internet or get substantively changed without explaining or noting the original reference. Regardless, the important take away from all of this is an inspiring example of friendship, loyalty and generosity in quietly ensuring a beloved British icon who brought science and wonder to the people could do so in security and dignity until the end. |

I think he may have read your initial post, well said. |
cmsdrums 17.12.2012 16:33 |
Yup - it was on his soapbox but he must have deleted it. Good on him to have taken this very private action for no reason other than as a reflection of his feelings for a good friend, and true british icon. |

If Brian bought the house, that's truly great. Perhaps Sir Moore's pet cats may continue to live on there, just as Freddie's cats did at garden lodge. I'm sure he'd be happy to know they still have their very own home. |

With music he really has done it all. With astronomy there is so much more ground he can cover, so that's probably where his energy would go. He doesn't play a single note he doesn't want to play, and if he never played another note again in favour of doing things like The Sky At Night, I wouldn't blame him for a second. All this aside - Brian on TV weekly would just be so damn cool. |

All this aside - Brian on TV weekly would just be so damn cool. Even if, rather than regaling us with stories of Queen in the studio or playing some sublime new compositions, he is is talking a load of old shite about a load of old shite?! |
The Real Wizard 18.12.2012 12:48 |
Astronomy is a load of old shite? |
mooghead 18.12.2012 13:20 |
I would rather he did the sky at night than make the same old shite he's been making for years, who knows, it may draw a line under 'Queen' and those anthology things that are never going to be released will still never be released... |

I've never seen Sky at Night, but love the thought of Brian doing something like I imagine it to be with his time, his many gifts and his doctorate. I think he'd be terrific at the communication of that kind of information, wonder and enthusiasm, and would love to see it. Even if it was just a couple of specials or something. I honestly worry about what he's doing to his general scientific credibility among the sane and engaged however. I perused his Twitter for the heck of it today for the first time and noted this jaw dropper in response to a Twitter user that commented on the less than stellar efficacy of the BCG vaccine for cows: "Ha ! The usual red herrings. You have to wonder, if BCG is so 'poor', why we vaccinate our children with it ?" Jesus fracking Christ. That's truly stunningly ridiculous, but sadly not in the least uncommon for him on this topic. Note to anybody who defends his science/reason/reasonableness/integrity/etc. on the animal rights topics: for your own good, stop saying cracked things about Brian May on the internet. I'm looking at you Robert Wizard! :) |

I'd also Love to see Brian in a 'Brian Cox' type Cosmos series. Or even Join Sky at Night. He's a natural in front of Camera |

Not often moved to post on this site. But this time I'd just like to say that friends will be friends - and if you have good ones you are blessed. Well done Brian - continue to do as Patrick did! |

Does Brian now own the house? Was it an underhand business move? Is Brian a dirty dealer?? Will he re release the house to gullible Queen fans? Watch this space.... |

waiting eagerly for Patrick Moore's House - "2013 deluxe edition" same house, same wallpaper, just moved the furniture around a little |
mooghead 24.12.2012 13:03 |
Patrick Moore must have earned millions in salary from the BBC over the decades alone, not taking into account his many books and public appearances. I'm struggling with the motive behind this house buy thing. I guess as Moore didn't have a spouse or children distant family may well have sold the house after his death but its still a strange goings on.... |
