Links need to be copied and pasted. The quote function continues to have issues, as does the PM system.
Why the constant need to fix the forum when it was just fine a couple years ago? It wasn't perfect, but it worked.
Are these flaws of the engine itself? If so, then maybe this place needs to start from scratch.
Just trying to offer some constructive criticism.
thanks for the feedback.
I will sort out on the weekend. I am trying to make the site easier to navigate on mobile browsers.... so, a few things have gone wrong....
Good luck ironing out all the kinks.
And here's another one - the quote function doesn't work anymore.
edit:
and yet another thing: the reply and quote buttons on top of posts aren't visible.
During a period where we are struggling a little for good content these technical problems really couldn't come at a worse time. Right now we have a forum whose general appearance is about 10 steps back from a week ago and where you can't reply, edit or quote. Or paste links that work. These are pretty basic forum functions and I frankly can't understand why these experiments or whatever they are are done on a live system.
On the plus side, the quoting function has somewhat improved, as the line breaks no longer disappear. But quoted text isn't in its own box, so it's just part of the post as if you were its author. And the icons for quoting still aren't visible. One has to mouse-over and guess.
There are just too many flaws. This forum needs a complete lobotomy. It's barely functional. Time to start from scratch with a new engine that works. I suggest phpBB. It's very easy to launch and operate.
Don't get me wrong...I do very much appreciate what's been created here and love the idea at least of a homegrown and fully customizable piece of software for a fan community created by a fellow fan and programmer. But whatever that idea once was it's now wilted, and not because of inherent problems with the potential of the engine but because of neglect and seeming indifference. Who trashes a live piece of software and then just wanders off? Why are the RSS buttons still there when they haven't worked since July? Why can't somebody take 15 seconds and let us know if there are any plans to fix them when several people have noted that it has impacted them? Invisible edit/reply/quote functions? On a forum? Seriously? It's all a bit surreal.

The edit, reply and reply with quotes buttons are still in the same place (along the date line) but the icons are missing and the quotation function is not working again. If you place the cursor next to the posted date line, you can see the dialogue box.
OK, we have some progress ! The quoting function has improved.
When quoting, the "subscribe to this thread" boolean is defaulted at yes. Switch that, and we'll be in business.
hi,
I believe I have fixed the links in the forums now. Also, the "subscribe to this thread" should now be working properly. it was a real pain to resolve.
let me know if there is anything else.
