Press Release: Queen Release Greatest Video Hits on DVD in North America August 28th Sees The Best of Queen's 70s and 80s Promo Videos Get Released in 2- disc Box Set This 2-disc set packages many of Queen’s classic promotional videos into 1 package for the first time. The 33 videos on display have gone through video restoration and received a DTS Surround Sound mix, along with commentary from Brian May and Roger Taylor. Disc 1 spotlights Queen in the 1970’s, when the music video began to emerge. This collection highlights some of their most beloved tracks, from “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Another One Bites The Dust”, “We Will Rock You” & “We Are The Champions”. From the freezing backyard shoots of “We Will Rock You” and “Spread Your Wings”, to the visual masterpiece that accompanies “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Queen was already showing off the various ways that they visually wanted to represent their music. Disc 2 shows the masterwork of Queen in the 1980’s, from 1982’s Hot Space album through 1989’s The Miracle. With the advent of MTV in the US, Queen proved that they could be as creative visually as they were on record. From the Metropolis-themed video for “Radio Ga Ga”, the spoofing of Coronation Street in “I Want To Break Free” (which would be banned from the network) and the band being replaced by children in “The Miracle”, Queen put their stamp on the music video in the best way they knew how: by doing something new and different each time. Release date: Tuesday August 28th 2012 Track Listing Disc One 1. Bohemian Rhapsody 2. Another One Bites The Dust 3. Killer Queen 4. Fat Bottomed Girls 5. Bicycle Race 6. You’re My Best Friend 7. Video restoration = taking the 625line interlaced PAL tapes, and converting them to 480p NTSC DVD, correct ? Also I tell you a secret - Queen continued to produce great videos in the 90's too, not just in the 70's and the 80's |

"The 33 videos on display have gone through video restoration and received a DTS Surround Sound mix, along with commentary from Brian May and Roger Taylor." I assume that the quality and commentary are the same as the ones on GVH1&2 from some years ago? In other words, this is just a repackaging of existing material, but for the US market only? |
Toon_86 19.07.2012 04:30 |
What a missed opportunity AGAIN. As fans, we have waited patiently for the Innuendo videos (not so bothered about the MiH films) for many years, so this is something of an insult that inreality it is exactly what has already been provided, stick the Queen II cover on the box and call it a new release. These long awaited vids were released on video, so why can't they do a DVD release? Of course the abortion of the Do-Ro release was cutting the ending of TATDOOL's which should never have passed a quality control procedure, but hey, they had my money at that point, who gives a toss about quality? Really, GT, you appear to be the 'voice' of Queen Productions on queenzone these days, are you not embarrassed about this kind of release, as basically a fan yourself? Be honest. |
GT 19.07.2012 04:41 |
This product is exactly what it says on the box, an amalgamation of the two previously released 'Greatest Video Hits' compilations. |
pittrek 19.07.2012 04:49 |
I just hope we'll get a GVH3 one day |
popy 19.07.2012 04:57 |
Just give us Greatest Video Hits 3. Don't care if the Made In Heaven videos aren't the best, but hey, i can just turn off the TV and enjoy the 5.1... ups 4.1 Surround mix of the songs from it and Innuendo + No One But You. GVH1 was released 10 years ago and GVH2 9 years ago, i would expect that GVH3 would sit on my collection at least since 2004/2005. As a famous presenter of a certain tv show about cars would ask: "how hard can it be?" |

and yes people. Again another re-re-re-release of something which we all have. the GVH 1 and 2 were released 10 years ago. What will be next, live at the bowl 30th anniversary? Sometimes i feel ashame of being a Queen fan....... |

"This product is exactly what it says on the box, an amalgamation of the two previously released 'Greatest Video Hits' compilations." A good political response. |
MrFunster 19.07.2012 05:48 |
This is again, a confirmation of Queen fans still being stupid, they buy everything again and again even there are no extra's or improvements. As if we don't think about what kind of product we buy....LOL And also the lies from Roger: "there are no interesting songs in the vaults anymore..." i don't believe that and understand why they do such a thing to real Queen fans... (Greg Brooks told us something else...) But I still doubt if Brian and Roger decide every release ...... maybe the production company pushes them in some way.... |

Why?! again?!?! |
john bodega 19.07.2012 08:57 |
It's FUCKING SIMPLE, Brian ... put out one GH DVD (one to rule them all). Make it a Blu-Ray or something. Get all of the videos, and this time get them all in the right fucking aspect ratio instead of letting some toddler squash them and say it's 16:9. Every video up to Innuendo. Throw in No One But You as the finisher. Don't really care what the special features are, as we've seen most of the behind the scenes video we're probably ever going to. Skip all of the Q+ crap. Couldn't be any fucking simpler. Any production team worth a $5 back alley handjob could knock this DVD together in the time it takes Brian to eat his fucking cornflakes. DVD authoring is not rocket science, trust me. Get the fuck on it already! There is absolutely no excuse not to - not a single one! |
DLCVinnuendo 19.07.2012 09:12 |
and the innuendo videos??? another ridiculus release... |
AlexRocks 19.07.2012 09:34 |
This is a great release! It's very smart too! The reason being that "Greatest Video Hits II" did not sell very well in the U.S. and I would bet around the world as well. At least in comparison to "Greatest Video Hits I". This will allow more people to be exposed to more of the short films that they have not seen in the past. Question is are there any bonus features? Remember something can always be put out of print and have something new and different released many years down the road. As far as the Queen + short films I bet that they are waiting to do new and exciting things that will be better than perhaps some in years past. That's really exciting as well. At that point they can release another compilation of some sort containing more Queen short promotional films. |
MadTheSwine73 19.07.2012 09:49 |
Wow. Not only is it the same thing, but it doesn't even have the old extras like Liar and KYA. |
Hangman_96 19.07.2012 09:53 |
I'm sorry, but this is a crap release. |
Wiley 19.07.2012 09:55 |
Well, it's yet another re-release under the new label. Not terrible but it could be seen as a lost opportunity. They could have included the Innuendo and Made in Heaven Videos in another disc and make it the full collection. Just the videos, no new extras. They could even say that the new disc is a "Video EP" and not a full 2hr+ DVD. It worked for the "Bonus EP"s in the Island 2011 re-releases, didn't it? |
YAFF 19.07.2012 10:12 |
I don't plan to purchase this as I didn't purchase GVH1 or GHV2 in the past but in fairness to the record label (I work for one) it is an economical release aimed at casual fans. These days with all the music piracy and filesharing of official releases I completely understand the need to milk what you have dry. This IS a business. Personally, music videos are pointless to me unless they are live or something beyond a mimed performance ("Radio Ga Ga" is a good video for example) by the band so though I agree with the angst from longtime fans I have to say the "Barcelona" reissue with orchestra is "gift" to longtime fans so maybe wait and see what comes next before we get too angry about this? Releasing a GHV3 would probably be as sloppy as the "Greatest Hits 3" cd anyway. Besides you could burn your own GHV3 as it's all out there for the taking. |
Mkls 19.07.2012 10:30 |
so if it goes back to GVH1 and 2, that means most of it is 16:9 with some cases a lot of video noise? |
The Real Wizard 19.07.2012 16:13 |
Bands re-release their back catalogs to make money. Get over it, folks. Better releases are on their way. Patience. |
Michael 19.07.2012 16:45 |
Re-releasing more junk. Thanks, guys. |
Jimmy Dean 20.07.2012 00:41 |
Well at the very least, it could be seen as a reboot to continue the GVH releases... So that ie. GVH 3 coming out next april wouldn't seem out of place... Also, they probably figured that with more Queen fans out there, now with all the promotional shit flying all over the place - newer fans may want to buy these... At this point, all the core fans have the original GVH 1 & 2 with the bonus material - most of the newbees aren't warmed up to caring for it anyways... so there's no reason to re-release the double disc version of both sets... It's a cash cow directed at new fans - that have jumped on the Queen bandwagon in the last 3-5 years. I don't think it was a bad release. But I do see it as a necessary one. And I also believe they will release GVH3 within a year to capitalize on the inflow of what's coming next... Budapest, Barcelona, Great Pretender Blu Ray, etc... |
popy 20.07.2012 21:22 |
Simple quentions that the press release doesn't clarify and you refused to answer GT, so let's try again: Are the DTS Surround Sound mixes exactly the same from GVH1 and GVH2 in 4.1? No work has been done to remix them into a BRAND NEW Surround Mix? The videos are in the original Aspect Ratio, or are exactly the same cropped sh*t from the first DVD release? That's not to hard to answer this, is it? |
Pim Derks 21.07.2012 01:12 |
You really believe that Queen Productions would spent time and money to convert these videos back to their original aspect ratio, when they already have DVD's which they can just copy? |
Back2TheLight 22.07.2012 20:35 |
You DO understand that this is just normal protocol when they switch record labels? The new label has to re-release everything so it's all under they're label, as opposed to EMI. Note the fact that hardly any promotion will be done for it, as in previous releases in the US, and Island/Hollywood will be wasting their time and efforts. Just my opinion... |

Just my opinion...You're right, it is just your opinion. The new label doesn't HAVE to re-release everything unless they are contractually obligated to, ie. the BAND has wanted to re-release everything as a part of signing on. The only way Island is going to actually make money with the music videos is by releasing a compilation which can be sold to all the people around the world who bought the previous GVH's. |

This is a barmy release. It was only April when Simon Lupton suggested at convention that an updated GVH package was in the works and would have all the promos, hopefully including all the variations as well... |
dysan 23.07.2012 15:15 |
Even though it's as old as the Queen GH DVDs, the Best Of Bowie showed how it could be done - 2 discs of all the promos (ok, MOST of them from a 30 year career) - extended and alternate versions, key TV appearances, the occasional interview. It was great. Even non-UK singles got a look in. They miss a trick by having these sets 2 disc and not filling up the discs. All the GH1 + GH2 2 disc sets could be easily split onto 2 disc. They shouldn't worry about sticking religiously to the 1981 split between 2 volumes. Indeed, putting that aside would free up a much more interesting chronological romp through their videos. It makes more sense to do 1973 - 1984 and 1985 - 1997. Large hits and the 'unknown' side by side, nevermind the 'rare' videos on a seperate disc, stick them all in, in order. |

inu-liger wrote: Isn't that what you actually meant? Just attempting to clarify hereNope, I tried to say exactly what I wrote. Music dvds are a niche market to begin with, and Queen are way past their commercial peak. Island isn't going to make a profit by selling a $15 title to the Adam lambert fans, but they might make a profit by selling a $30 special edition to all the Queen fand who already own the previous versions. Too bad QP isn't giving them anything to make a special edition, so they have to settle with this cut-every-corner -re-release. |
Kacio 24.07.2012 05:35 |
Why again didn't have videos from the 90s? They are the best! |
KevoM 27.07.2012 07:10 |
GT.... You started the thread SO ANSWER THE FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS? It's the least you can do. Is it still in the CRAPPY squashed 16:9 and 'Justin Shirley you cannot be serious 4.1 DTS' ??? NTSC 480i is fine for the US market but HEAVEN FORBID tehy relaese it in the same format in the UK. TBH I hope the release doesn't make it to UK shores |
Makka 31.07.2012 07:02 |
They should of made it with ALL their videos and do it properly. It's like it's half finished. A BluRay version would of been nice too. |
