I just wanted to share my opinion about the Take 1 of Sail Away Sweet Sister link . To me the sound is so warm and tight with a thick nice rythem, things that eventually were missed in the final production. Also that hiss with the hi-hats and all of The Game album ruined that sweet warmth they were able to create.
Am i the only one who hears that?
I agree - I actually find that with a few band's demos and early versions, especially Queen's; it's as if during the final mixing abd mastering something gets stripped out to take that certain 'sparkle'. Sail Away.....early version is a very good example of this.

For some reason, I think Brian's voice just sounds better here than on the final recording.
Me too. For me it's because the chorus isn't drowned in vocals. I think the chorus to Sail Away sounds much better with Brian's single tracked vocal, rather than the typical Queen vocal harmonies which sort of weigh it down and take away some of the sincerity I guess.
That's why I always preferred the DVD-Audio version over the classic CD of the song. Even compared with 2011 remaster DVD-A sounds better when it comes to Sail away sweet sister. I strongly recommend to obtain the DVD-A of The Game.
