Why would she want to do that when she is already established as a west end singer and reasonably well known thanks to her work with Brian?
same reason as that guy out of 5ive or whatever boyband it was, auditioned last week
desperate attention seeking, limelight craving and unable to live without getting a spotlight fix periodically
Some will have already looked up the performance I'm sure, but for those that haven't:
I could't help but feel for her. She handled it gracefully and graciously but you could feel that it hurt and confused her. The song was not a good choice for her, and like many musical types (lookin' at you Adam Lambert) the tone frays and gets unpleasant at the big spots. She didn't mention Brian or her work with him at all. I wonder if that was by design for whatever reason? Kerry's participation and lack of success may explain Brian's harsh words for the show some weeks ago. He's of course wonderfully loyal to people and things once he embraces them.
Her disappointment made me wonder a little about where the dreams of pop/rock stardom came from. Were they hers, or did they come from Brian's vision of her as his protege? No way to know I guess. One is always enriched in some way by a bump in the road like this I suppose, but I also find it a bit wistful to imagine her perhaps happy and satisfied and completely fulfilled with her musical career a few years ago, with no visions of what is just frankly not the right fit.
Ouch!
That was a painful blow right to Kerry's heart! Now I see why Brian had strong words about the show.
When I heard she was doing the show my first thought was why? She's already successful and in demand. Seemed like a step back to me.
Not really, mass stardom and exposure is a step up from musicals. She has a great musical voice, hardly a dime a dozen but can't see why anyone here would care about her apart form Brian's connection. Has nothing to do with Queen.

I suspect you wouldn't be wrong to say that if Kerry had succeeded in the show, Brian would have been praising the show...
Surely as a musician, Brian should be supporting a show that is mainly about the talent, instead of the show that is mainly about image?
I'd really like to tongue-fuck Holly Willoughby.
Thing about Kerry is that she's not that kind of singer. She's stage-y, she's in her element already.
This sort of thing is never fun to watch though :s Awkward. I can tell you it genuinely sucks when you fail to get through to people musically. You feel (frankly) like a right knob-end.
I haven't seen the video yet but I have heard Kerry's voice on Defying Gravity. Her style is very good for singing on stage without a microphone where you have to communicate each word and note to a large audience. Those judges were probably looking for the new Pink or the new singer that can really be picked out from the crowd because of original qualities. If they had a judge from her genre she probably would have been snapped up. Or maybe a different song choice would have been better (I read on another site that she sang Son of a Preacher Man - it does make you wonder what type of singing career she is trying for).
Well I've seen it now. (Ha.) She seems like a lovely person. At least this is exposure for her. I think the TV audience will bring her more recognition in the long run.

I would just like to say that I had no idea what a knob-end was until I looked it up on Google just now. I'm going to assume that that's some sort of British slang (I'm American).
As for Kerry Ellis...um, that's nice. Never really cared one little bit for any of these talent shows.

Aw hell, if our brainless banter can help educate just one person with terms like 'knob-end', then it has all been worth it!
