Kiss announced in early 2000 that they would be launching a U.S. Farewell Tour in the summer, which was to be the band's last, although it was last for the original line up; the tour kicked off on March 12, 2000.
Fair question and an even fairer answer.
Kiss will still exist in a hundred years. There are countless tribute bands who are just as good - the only difference being budget.
When Gene, Paul and the gang are in wheelchairs, they'll just draft in one of the tribute bands to carry the torch. They'll never let this brand die, and with good reason. It's a ton of money in the bank.

When Paul's no longer in KISS I'll close my wallet to anything that a KISS 2.0 does. I just wouldn't be interested in it. Paul is KISS. I'll listen to the old stuff and purchase things related to KISS circa 1974 through the end of the Paul Stanley era.
Queen has "We Will Rock You" and that Queen Extravaganza thing (I'm totally not interested in that).
The Beatles have "Rain" and Beatlemania.
KISS discussed KISS 2.0 several years ago. They haven't gone into any detail on what that would be.
Broadway and/or Las Vegas musical?
Residency in Las Vegas with 4 new musicians doing a classic KISS show or a newly designed show? With new music written by Paul and/or Gene?
Same as above only it would be a touring show?

RE: tribute bands
I've seen a half dozen KISS tribute bands.
Not one has a good Paul Stanley. His voice is distinctive and the people singing his songs don't have his range.
It's much easier to sound like Gene.
WOW... This is INCREDIBLE!!!!
BOTH sets of douchebag fansters combined in one venue EACH night!
If someone wanted to uh ...say serve strychnine at these concerts, we might have a stronger electorate
;) (I jest)
KISS are excellent cheesy concert performers. Crue just aint my "drag/jock rock schtick"
They do STILL attract a lot of hot mindless women though.
Good for them both
