This is a thing I noticed a long, long time back while was watching Montreal 1981.
In the Now I'm Here reprise (0.35-0.40), Freddie sings "Stay, please stay..." which are the words from Leaving Home Ain't Easy. So I'm wondering if it's really a reference to the song?

Nah, it's highly unlikely.
Freddie probably wasn't even at the recording session, so I doubt he'd know the words.
How come he wouldn't know the words? The leader of the group didn't even have a listen to the whole product his band released? :-)
At least, he could be able to remember some of the lyrics.

Despite what the public thought (and thinks), Freddie was never in reality the leader. There was none. If anything, there was a power struggle between Freddie and Brian, with John and Roger probably feeling they were competing too.
i'd have said it sounded almost exactly like Marvin Gaye's "Please Stay"....and much nearer to Freddie's favourite style of singer...in fact his "improvs" live at gigs i went to were almost more soul-related than rock/folk
so i definitely edge toward Marvin Gaye ...it's nothing like LHAE

He wasn't the leader of the group.

Could you please email me on sir_valery96@hotmail.com? It's always been interesting for me to talk with people who saw Freddie live themselves. I just have some questions about the concerts. I'm looking forward for your reply :-)
