On November 11th, 1918, at 11:00, World War One ended.
Just take a minute and think about all the people that died and still die for us just for our freedom.
Nobody died for anyone's freedom in World War I. It is by far the most disgusting war this world has ever seen - the sacrifice of millions for no purpose whatsoever. The same words from 1918 still apply: NEVER again.
And that is HIS opinion and his opinion alone.
Most disgusting war ever? Really?
The total number of military and civilian casualties in World War I were over 35 million. There were over 15 million deaths and 20 million wounded ranking it among the deadliest conflicts in human history.
World War II was the deadliest military conflict in history. Over 60 million people were killed, which was over 2.5% of the world population.
Sorry TQ, but you are WRONG. VERY WRONG. AGAIN.
On the bright side, you only missed by 25 Million People.
It's worth noting the evolution of weapons from WWI to WWII. The bayonet was the most commonly used weapon in WWI, and that is a far more slow and painful death than being blown up by a tank or an atomic bomb.
Also, the world's population grew greatly from the 20s to the 40s, so stating the number of deaths is less accurate than citing the overall percentage of the world's population that was killed in the two wars. That said, the percentage of deaths in WWII was still far greater.
But my central point is that the brutality of war has more than one scale it can be measured on - some of which aren't scientific or mathematical.
Yes, but not EVERYONE in Nagasaki and Hiroshima died an instant death either.
Being gutted by a bayonett is not much fun, but I have a feeling dying of radiation sickness is far more painful.
Be that as it may, to make a blanket statement dismissing the brutality of other wars is not fair. TQ's post would have been better served if it was proceeded by "I think...". It's a disservice on his part to the people who died in all wars.
But then again, I don't think they really care what TQ and I think.
