Hey everyone at QueenZone!
I am a massive Queen fan and as you'll know, it's the twentieth anniversary of Freddie Mercury's death this year so I'd love to get 'I Want to Break Free' to number one in the UK charts for his 65th Birthday on the 5th of September!
Not only would this be a great birthday present for one of the greatest stars ever but increased record sales of the single will also mean more money being made available to the Mercury Phoenix Trust, the AIDS charity set up after Freddie’s death.
So, from the 29th of August to 4th of September, I'd love people to download 'I Want to Break Free' (one of Freddie's finest recorded moments) and give a true legend the best birthday present we could ever give him!
I have setup a Facebook page to support the campaign: link
Please join and share with your friends,
Thanks :)
if iwtbf gets to no1 then i will run up and doon glasgow fort dressed as a women with the yellow wembley jacket on and a frankfurter stuffed up my arse lol :), there is as much chance of that getting to no1 as george michael becoming straight :)
I agree with the Original Poster one of Queen's best songs.
All you detractors want to overlook the drag scenes to actually clear your ears out and listen to the record for its musical content, brilliant vocals and music. Yes the video is a fcking joke how could they use such a trivial video for such an time classic song. John how could you let the others do this to your record and overshadow it with a video which margainalised the mainstream and champion the uphill gardners.
I am British and couldn't give a shit for dreary Coronation street at the time or ever, so couldn't see a funny side at all.
I agree with above posts; IWTBF has a great vocal is a nice bit of fluff but not entirely appropriate for the purpose of remebering FM
Dare I suggest an FM composition or solo work, or something a bit more poignant; Mother Love for example (I long for peace before i die)
Who's bothered about "any Song" getting to number one anymore? I think these days, the single chart is irrelevant, it's become a bit of a joke. What with all the digital downloads being counted towards the chart (e.g, in a week prior to Christmas, all the old "Christmas hits' re enter the charts on digital downloads alone,) Personally I don't think "Queen" are bothered about getting a number 1 single anymore. It's the album sales, that tend to count + even with the album chart, who would rather have an album that go's in at number one & then exits the chart the following week, or an album that hangs around at say, number 5, for about 5 months?

i disagree completely...it's a fucking lumbering plodding carthorse of a song...no real rythm or feel...very much typical of queen at that time....(barely) goign thru the motions
