i really hate the fact that new artists in this century cover queen songs, i mean sure xfactor did it, and americal idol, oh please lets leave the catalogue alone, mc fly omg theres wasnt bad but then if it had to be covered queen songs, pick jeff scott soto, cause he can hit them notes perfect, see the queen concert he did on the dvd, amazing
so why doesnt queen hire this guy?
i hate them because queen songs are ment to be sand my queen! not justin bieber or the jonass brothers! i think any band trying to sing a queen song who isnt queen themselves is like pissing all over the mona lisa
I agree Tez, I think that only acts that can do classic Queen songs justice should actually be allowed to cover them, e.g. firmly established acts and not kids who haven't learnt to tie their own showlaces yet!!

sadly yes due to how fucked up 'art' is these days
scribbles on a canvas is somhow art, i call it a piss take for those who train and work their arses off to become an artist. then some cock comes and spills paint on a canvas and gets 10,000 quid for it
if thats art then my sister in law is a fucking art genious!
how prissy and pretentious an attitude? some weird musical snobbery...
surely songs being covered allows a whole new generation access to the originals? and that's gotta be good. grow up, lose the "elitist" badge you so dearly want to stick onto anything "queen"...it doesn't exist. Freddie never saw queen as elite, if anything, he saw the band as a fusion of everything at the time (1972).....
in amongst all the "dross covers" there are occasionally some gems...these are worth hearing....
some very great songs have come from covers - think "all along the watchtower" for example
if "bigger" bands like dylan, springsteen and the beatles are ok to be covered then so too are queen....and anyway - it's not as if the band themselves mind...Brian May has even been involved in a few of the "covers" himself in a collaborative way
one inescapable fact: once a song has been recorded - it's human nature for other artists to perform their own arrangements....
didn't Freddie call himself a musical prostitute? and didn't queen often do live covers?
case closed
Agree with you Brenski, as a lot of Queen fans know nothing but Queen music. Having said that, good Queen covers are tough to find. Their trademarks make them definitive, probably moreso than other groups or artists. Anyone singing anything with harmonies is not going to stack up to the original harmonies, the lead vocalist won't do justice to Freddie's voice, and any guitar harmonies are going to be Brain May knockoffs. Not a great place to start. I loved Dream Theater's SHA trilogy, but the vocals didn't cut it. I can like it for what it was, but not an improvement IMHO. A guy like Rod Stewart made a career of "owning" cover versions by making them so distinctive people thought the song was his. Nobody has ever "owned" a Queen song when doing it as a cover. IMHO.

Seriously, who let these hacks cover masterpieces. There should be Music Police who only allow "good" music be released!
