when i was listening to vinyl albums and a track i wasn't keen on came on, i'd usually be too lazy to get up and move the needle along. however when cds came out it was great for this type of thing. i was just thinking about this, and i started to wonder if there were any queen albums that i didn't feel the need to skip a track or two? the one that immediately springs to mind is the first album. i really enjoy every track on it, and i even like to hear the short seven seas of rhye track at the end too. 'sheer heart attack' fits the bill as does 'flash gordon', but thats it. 'a night at the opera' has '39 and the prophet's song on it, a couple of songs i've never been able to warm to. even my favourite album 'queen 2', doesn't qualify. i never play white queen. are you able to listen to many/all of queen's albums without having the urge to skip a song? |
ITSM 21.02.2011 05:23 |
I usually skip Coming Soon, Tie Your Mother Down, One Year of Love, WWRY, We Are The Champions, Somebody to Love, Bohemian Rhapsody, Brighton Rock, The Invisible Man and The Hitman. |

Misfire, She Makes Me, Sweet Lady and about half of Hot Space, oh, and Don't Lose Your Head, which is awful. If you leave out the lyrics (i.e. "A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling") it's not too bad, though. |

Not such a big Queen fan like I was 15 years ago :-) But honestly, I still love them live |
Djdownsy 21.02.2011 09:17 |
Hmmm.... Jesus, Funny How Love Is In The Lap Of The Gods Spread Your Wings(hate the studio version, love the live versions however), If You Can't Beat 'Em, More Of That Jazz, Need Your Lovin' Tonight, Coming Soon, Aboria (Planet Of The Tree Men), Vultan's Theme (Attack Of The Hawk Men), Life Is Real (Song For Lennon), One Year Of Love, Pain Is So Close To Pleasure, Don't Lose Your Head, Friends Will Be Friends Will Be Friends, Khashoggi's Ship, Hang On In There, Don't Try So Hard, Ride The Wild Wind, All God's People, Bijou, My Life Has Been Saved. Of course, this is just the official album tracks, the b-sides, rarities and BBC sessions vary, but there's no point going into all that. |

"Delilah" is one of two songs I hit the "next" button for if the button is within reach at the time. It's purely a personal taste thing. Is it a terrible song? I don't know, I hardly listen to it. If people like the song, fantastic. I know I like songs with other people don't think highly of. The other would be "The Wedding March" on Flash Gordon. I hardly ever listen to FG anyway, but when I do, that's a track I skip. It makes perfect sense on the album and in the film, but my reaction is always "next!" I guess maybe I think its such a clichéd melody without the visual context (and sometimes even *in* context). |
br5946 21.02.2011 12:20 |
A very good topic, and I must admit, there are a fair few I skip. A Night At The Opera is the best Queen album and the best rock album ever made, but I've never really been able to stomach Good Company. Very good song, but something is missing about the 'wonder' of it. It's quite depressing that its GC I usually skip on that album, since it precedes Bo Rhap (best song of all time). Drowse has always been a comedown. Ironically, as with Good Company, Drowse gets saved by its following track (Teo Torriatte is one of Brian's finest ballads no questions asked). I can rip through The Miracle like nobody's bisuness - from the opening drum machine of Party to the closing guitar flourishes on Rain Must Fall that album is flawless, but Scandal and My Baby Does Me combined are truly weak! They're OK, but I can only listen to half of Scandal before fuming with irritation, and after a third of MBDM I want to yell. The bombast rock of Was It All Worth It picks it up from the very top of the Meh... category to Impressive, so the album goes out on a majorly good note. |
Wiley 21.02.2011 12:44 |
Apparently, pittrek, you don't listen much to Queen... even when you do! :) hehe I see your point, though. If you prefer live over studio Queen, it makes sense. I tend to skip (one album per line): Liar, Jesus The Loser in the End Misfire, She Makes Me Sweet Lady You Take my Breah away, You and I, White Man WWRY/Champions, It's Late (it's too long) Leaving Home Ain't Easy Don't Try Suicide Anything without vocals on Flash Gordon Back Chat, Action This Day Keep passing the open windows, Is this the world we created? I very rarely listen to AKOM. When I do, I usually listen to the whole thing but only once. The Invisible Man Delilah The thing with the latter albums, who have 4 or 5 singles in them, is that I rarely listen to them but WHEN I DO, I tend to listen to all the album tracks. If not, I might as well listen to GH2. |
Band Forever 21.02.2011 12:47 |
1. Jesus 2. Loser In The End 3. Storm Troopers In Stilettos - weak vocals and a little monotonus to put it mildly 4. Good Company 5. Drowse - weak vocals 6. Mustapha - Not my cup of tea 7. Suicide - Mother Mercury / Good Samaritans are us 8. Put Out The Fire - Could have been better musically especially group vox, not one of Brian's better solos seems jumbled and all over the place 9. Staying Power - Those Horns aah!!! absolute shite ruined quite a funky and catchy song =Arif Ardem you sold Queen a duffer here. 10. Man On The Prowl - Should have left the overt gay stuff for his solo album 11. Kurgan's Theme - Freddie at the end of his vocal range and cracking- grates this one. 12. Party - A Lot of drums and not much else - I agree with Roger drum solos get tedious. 13. Delilah- Amusing lyrics but musically below par. 14. Winter's Tale I think could have used a mass choir instead of Brian & Roger multi tracked. Sorry guys should have been No.1 with Freddie's poignant lyrics - and he does sound a bit rough too. |

Oh you are being serious!!Of course I'm not quite serious :-) But remember Phil, the original question was "songs you always skip" , NOT "songs you hate". I would NEVER dare to say that I hate ANY Queen song Those are more "songs, which I don't have to listen every time I listen to the album" :-) Of course, don't take me TOO seriously :-) |

Thats cool dude ! I tend to play the whole albums from start to finish except for Flash Gordon which i have hardly ever played !! |

When I was younger I used to skip All God's People, The Hitman, One Vision, The Invisible Man, Under Pressure, Seven Seas of Rhye, Mother Love, but now I listen to all the tracks (although I sometimes skip We are the champions, it's been so overplayed!) |
Wijnand 22.02.2011 07:24 |
I must admit that I skip BoRhap quite a lot... And WWRY/WATC.... Not because I don't like them, NOT AT ALL, but hear them too much (is that possible with Queen songs?) |
lyricalassasin77 22.02.2011 12:07 |
This is a good topic. I'm not going to list all the songs I skip cuz there's quite a few however I find myself skipping most of Roger's contributions on all the 70's albums, with the exception being "I'm in Love with my Car". I could listen to the whole Queen II album from start to finish if it wasn't for "Loser In The End". I know with Flash Gordon the only 2 tracks I'll listen to on there is "The Hero" & "Flash's Theme"....I find myself skipping alot of songs on the Miracle as well. |
Bo Alex 22.02.2011 12:37 |
I used to skip She Makes Me and Heaven For Everyone. Also many tracks from Flash Gordon and A Kind Of Magic. |
qrock 22.02.2011 13:19 |
I don't understand why A Winter's Tale is so overlooked. I think it's a great song. Queen songs I occasionaly skip. Get Down, Make Love My Melancholy Blues Mustapha Fun It Body Language (always skip it) Don't Lose Your Head Party My Baby Does Me Delilah |

Queen: none - great listen all the way through Queen II: Someday One Day & Loser In The End Sheer: Stormtrooper Opera: Good Company Races: Drowse NOTW: none - favorite album - I even like Fight From The Inside! Jazz: Fun It, Leaving Home, More Of That Jazz The Game: Coming Soon (Although I think Don't Try Suicide has horrible lyrics, the band interaction fantastic) Hot Space: Cool Cat (Bowie was right)...rest of the albums is a great listen no matter what most people here think Works: Man On The Prowl, Machines, Is This The World We Created Magic: Pain Is So Close to Pleasure, Friends Will Br Friends, Don't Lose Your Head, Gimme The Prize Miracle: My Baby Does Me Innuendo: None... epic album Heaven: Depending on the mood... Let Me Live & You Don't Fool Me Don't consider Flash Gordon to be an album. Don't consider Cosmos Rocks to be Queen. |
Groucho Marx 22.02.2011 22:34 |
What I listen to depends on the mood I'm in. It could be different songs at different times. I probably skip Delilah more than anything. |

The Loser In The End, Spread Your Wings, Get Down Make Love from the first six albums ... After that, too many to mention :) Tim |

Jesus Mad the Swine Seven Seas Of Rhye (from first album) Back Chat Action This Day Calling All Girls Cool Cat Party (oh those fake drums! Ugh!!!) Most of The Miracle album apart from I Want It All obviously. To me this was the low pint, not Hot Space. I'm Going Slightly Mad Headlong Ride The Wild Wind Deliah (EEK!) The Hitman (Freddie sounds very nasal on this) Bijou You Don't Fool Me 9 times out of 10 I'll skip these songs. I used to avoid things like Gimme the Prize and Don't Lose Your Head but I've found a new appreciation for some of these former playlist exiles. |

Pain Is So Close to Pleasure, My Life Has Been Saved (95 version), If You Can't Beat Them. I don't think there's many songs as execrable as those. |

Mind you, there are some real surprises on this thread --Drowse? You Take my Breath away?! If You Can't Beat them has a great-sounding guitar solo. It also sounds great live. See the Paris show on Youtube, for example. Plus it's nice to throw John a bone every now and again. |

"and he does sound a bit rough too" SERIOUSLY!!!!!!! The man was dying, and your going to criticise his vocal track. Supposedly it was recored 2 weeks before he died! I personally think its a minor miracle he managed to record anything that close to dying especially considering the condition his body was in. Most people would love to be able to put a vocal track that sounded as rough as that down!!!!!!!!! |

The following is a list of songs I usually skip (depends on the mood) Queen ................................. Jesus Queen II ..............................
