The 3 shows in Leiden are easily among the most exciting, best shows of the Magic tour. There's only one problem: none of the recordings sound really good!
11/06/86: 5 sources but none of them is better than B+, enjoyable but still frustrating; The show is a very hot one though.
I haven't got the source recorded closer to the stage though. Is that any better? (a good B+ ???)
12/06/86: This show has some incredible moments, like Big Spender and many great versions of songs (FM's voice is again in SUPERB shape and the crowd is once again an enthusiastic bunch:-) Now, I think the existing 2 sources for this night are crap. I would give both recordings only a B- rating. I have only heard the first source (only 1 song from the second) and what bothers me so much is that you first hear the audience and then the music. I have great difficulty in enjoying that one, even though I can hear there's a wonderful performance underneath.
19/06/1986: no comment needed I guess;-)
Now, does anyone know of any better version tapes of any of those shows? I'd definately like to hear that!
cheers
I myself wonder if there's better quality versions of those concerts (though I'm fine with the current versions I have).
All I know, is that those Leiden shows are incredible: The crowd digs the whole set, and Freddie's voice is tops. That's when he could sing One Vision and A Kind Of Magic like the studio version! Shame they filmed Wembley (when they could've gotten Leiden instead)!
of course, it's more important to get more great seventies recordings than more recordings from those 1986 Leiden shows but since there are so many sources already, it could be very well be there's more. By 1986 many people were taping....
Yeah, for me, I just like checking Bob's site and Queenzone for any updates on previously shared gigs (like upgrades/remasters, etc).
Who knows? Maybe the alternative source for Brussels and Zurich 1986 might show up in the future! I'd love to hear Brussels in great quality!
