Ive listened to some of Rogers and Brians solo stuff and its ok but i much prefer Freddie's work |

A hundred of these threads exist already, but i give you credit for the word "prefer" instead of "the Best" like it's a fact one is better than the other. My honest opinion is that I lean towards the lead singer in my favorite bands. Queen, Priest, early maiden. So naturally Freddie solo I prefer, but I could understand if someone hates his solo stuff with it's lack of rock....... Barcelona remains one of my favorite albums of all time. while Mr. Bad Guy is a weak album it does have some moments like the title track, love me like there's no tomorrow, living on my own and man made paradise. On top of that the great pretender is a great cover tune and in my defense is awsome. I find myself going back to those recordings a lot, while i rarely if ever listen to brian and roger's albums any more. |

I Listen to "Fun In Space" more than any other solo album, although "Barcelona" comes a close second. |

Roger's, definitely. I actually think that, on average, the songs on his solo-albums are better-crafted than the ones he wrote for Queen. |
Dan C. 28.07.2010 13:31 |
Add me to the Roger camp as well. Lately, I actually listen to his albums much more frequently than Queen's. |
Gregsynth 28.07.2010 14:11 |
I have a fondness for Freddie's solo works. |
Rubbersuit 28.07.2010 14:16 |
Roger for sure, tho' "Back to the Light" was great. |

"the Biggles"... There's no turning back... (just for sheer oddity and rarity) I still play Fun In Space, Electric Fire and Strange Frontier... though most queen music can be culled from memory on just the thought of it. These days i kinda lean toward Another World more than Back to the Light... despite it having Love Token and Last Horizon. I Brian touched on some different vibes with that one. Everybody else hit the nail on the head with Mr Bad Guy... the good tracks. BUT(!)... Barcelona reigns as a crowning masterpiece and achievement. it's of its own kind |
lifetimefanofqueen 28.07.2010 14:58 |
I love Brian's solo work, back to the light is so awesome XD |
Major Tom 28.07.2010 15:18 |
Barcelona, Back To The Light and Fun In Space. Equally good IMHO. |
sexmachine 28.07.2010 15:26 |

The only solo album I have on constant rotation is Fun in Space. I listen to it at least once every couple of months or so. That has to be my favorite. Barcelona is great but I rarely listen to it. Like Queen II, I guess. |
mike hunt 29.07.2010 00:54 |
I only heard a few fun in space songs.....It seems to get praise here on queenzone...I guess I'll give it a listen. The roger albums i have Are happiness, which i consider weak. A few nice moments, and the much better electric fire, which i rarely if ever listen to. I find his stuff awfully boring. one song i heard on youtube of his solo was pretty embarrassing. I forget the name of it, it was a dance song. I think he was playing the guitar. |
FlorianS 29.07.2010 01:13 |
Brians, without any doubt! back to the light, resurrection, and some other tracks never lost the magic they had to me when I first bought BTTL back in 92. |
plumrach 29.07.2010 02:36 |
I will go with Freddie's solo works Love all the Mr Bad Guy album and some of the Barcelona album Barcelona is a fantastic song How can i go on very emotional song seeing as it probably related to what Freddie was going through at the time and I love the Golden Boy |
Rick 29.07.2010 03:20 |
Roger. Especially Fun In Space is great, seeing he plays almost everything himself, which makes it literally a solo album. |

Queen II is the Queen album I play the most. I just can't get enough of it and I really do hope they 5.1 it sometime SOON... |
Treasure Moment 29.07.2010 05:24 |
freddies of course, its basically queen albums |

Believe it or not barcelona is right there. i'll take that music to my grave. |

Wouldn't it be lovely if the outdated synths on Barcelona were re-recorded orchestrally? |
Mr Mercury 29.07.2010 08:13 |
John's "Man In The Shadows" album far outweighs any from the other guys...... |
Makka 29.07.2010 08:38 |
Hmmm....sure is a tough question to answer. I like Brian's work probably. I prefer Roger's work with the Cross probably better than his own solo work though he does have some stand out tracks. Freddie's solo work I think is very dated (not Barcelona of course) though I prefer listening to the original versions of the Mr Bad Guy songs than the Queen versions. Barcelona is an outstanding piece of work by Freddie and it's a shame he never got the chance to branch out like this and do more. But, after all that, I do own all their solo CD's and they all do still get a play. |
Rubbersuit 29.07.2010 08:39 |
My rankings (of the ones I've really listened to) 1. Barcelona (Fred) 2. Fun in Space (Roger) 3. Back to the Light (Brian) 4. Strange Frontier (Roger) 5. Mr. Bad Guy (Fred) 6. Another World (Brian) |
Benn 29.07.2010 08:53 |
In this order for me: Blue Rock Mad Bad......... Star Fleet Project Barcelona Strange Frontier I then don't pay any of the other solo material any other attention I'm afraid. |
mike hunt 29.07.2010 09:09 |
ThomasQuinn wrote: Wouldn't it be lovely if the outdated synths on Barcelona were re-recorded orchestrally? sadly that would Never Happen.......isn't the title track a real orchestra?......Also, I like the way it sounds as is, but I would imagine the real thing would Improve the album even more. I know brian is a big fan of Barcelona, so he might be our only hope. |
Wiley 29.07.2010 13:08 |
If we're talking re-recording songs with different instruments, how about a Pumped up version of Hot Space, with a bit more electric guitars and analog/organic drums? Hehehe :) Sorry, I couldn't resist. |
mike hunt 30.07.2010 06:48 |
Yea, Barcelona might benefit a little, but hot space would benefit a whole lot more. hot space had solid songs and isn't nearly as bad as people say, but put heavier music like the live version of staying power and it would have kicked ass. We could do Mr. bad guy While we're at it, lol. |
Adolfo and the spiders from Mercury 30.07.2010 16:38 |
I like Brian's Stuff better, and I think Freddie's songs sound way better worked by the rest of queen (born to love you, made in heaven) |
freddiefan91 31.07.2010 05:44 |
TBH Queen should of left IWBTLY and MIH alone, i know it would of made the Made In Heaven album a smaller album but Freddie did them perfectly well on his own |
