took the time to send this message to Peter Freestone and that gem of a man took the time to respond! Hey Peter, Thanks for accepting my friends request. I just have a quick Queen related question that I'm sure you get a lot, and no worries if you don't have time to answer me back, I know you're busy. I wrote to Brian and he didn't respond but I was just wondering if you knew of any times in the studio or live backstage that Freddie was maybe given a chance by Brian to play his guitar, the red special, or maybe for Freddie to teach Brian how to play a riff he was thinking in his head. I was just wondering because no pictures of Freddie holding the red special have ever surfaced. Thanks again from America! [/img]Peter Freestone January 15 at 7:29amI never saw Fredie with the red special in his hands. If he wanted Brian to play a specific riff he would normally demonstrate it vocally. It was true Freddie had very little knowledge of playing a guitar! Take care Peter So I suppose this roves that Freddie never really held the red special, though we know Brian let Paul use it before backstage. |

Awesome the formatting was wayyy off, but heres what Peter said: I never saw Fredie with the red special in his hands. Take care Peter and the attachment is this link: link |

There's one pic of Fred plucking the strings and Brian making the chord shapes. It was just a moment during a concert, nothing special. |

"Paul teaching Brian to play Smoke on the Water" Very good lol |

Teaching Freddie's favourite song to Freddie's favourite singer?? Could there be a bigger coup!? |

I am sorry, but my mind was sooooooooo in the gutter when I read this question......... |

I'd like to know what Pim thinks about Freddy and the red special... |

Sebastian 17.01.2010 18:35 |
And/or after Peter met him but he didn't see or doesn't remember. I can just picture it: (Fred mixes laxative in his wine and has a conspiracy smile) Freddie: Phoebe, drink this dear. Phoebe: OK. (Ten minutes later). Pheebs: I've gotta go... Fred: Brian, quickly! Gimme the RS, that way QZ people will prove PF wrong LO. Brian: OK. |

I'm sure freddie touched brians Instrument, and he enjoyed every minute of it......That's what the song "i'm scared" was about. One day the truth will cum out, and brian will write a tell all book about the experience of freddie touching his red special. [/img] |

Did Freddie ever touch the Red Special? He did, in fact, touch the Red Special, Projector Freddie. Many, many times.... |
john bodega 21.01.2010 08:51 |
Of course he touched it. Brian said it was his favourite guitar. |

I just finished watching the Queen video for the concert in Sydney Entertainment Centre in 1985. Freddie touched the Red Special for a moment when Brian was playing the WWRY solo in this concert. |

Regarding Freddie ever touching the Red Special... Let me tell you this.... I have seen footage, really wonderful and unexpected footage, showing Freddie not only touching the guitar, but playing it, and playing it very competently. I was shocked, startled and hugely impressed. Sorry I cannot say more, but I'm certain you'll see that footage one day. No clues other than it is from the 70s. GB |

but I'm certain you'll see that footage one day. No clues other than it is from the 70s. C'mon... give ME a hint. Will I still be able to hear and poop without assistance when something from the 70s is released or will my grandchildren have to tell me about it while spoon feeding me mashed bananas? I'm close to 40 now. |

As far as I know there are also no pictures of Freddie sitting on the toilet. So he never did that either. |

To say 'that album sucked' I haven't got to be able to write a better one. And by the way, I couldn't be a computer geek, as all I know is how to write e-mails and post on forums. Well, I also know how to print but I've often got problems with that. And yes, the songwriting in 'Bad Guy' is pretty good, but the arrangements and recordings aren't... at least not for Fred's standards. Same for the mentioned songs. Why do you care so much about my posts? Are you obsessed with me or something? |

To Holly2003, who wrote... Err... what do you mean you can't say more? Is there some sort of embargo in even talking about what Queen did in the past? You mine this site for info. for your book, yet won't provide even the most innocuous info. in return. GB replies... Err, what I mean is that the footage I view in the course of my work, the job I am paid to do by the band, is private and not for me to go blabbing publicly about. It will remain so until such times as the band decide those details can be disclosed. I don't know why you take the tone you do, as if the concept of employer/employee trust and discretion cannot apply to me. It applies to me and my particular job more, in fact, than to most of the people I know. Yes I can talk about Queen and the past, obviously, and there is no embargo on innocuous chat, as you say, but that doesn't mean I can watch unseen footage and then make it public.... no more than Clerks who work for Lloyds can make public the private material they are privy to during office hours. Your comment about being innocuous is merely your take on it. Actually, footage of Freddie playing BM's guitar, and the circumstances in which that rare event happened, are not innocuous or trivial in my opinion. I think it's actually quite significant... not that that's the point!! Is this stuff about me not blabbing private details I come across during my work not obvious to you????????????????????? |
Holly2003 30.01.2010 16:37 |
Err... except you have form don't you? A history of asking for information and then not replying when someone asks a related question. And let's not forget the exchange of info. about live recordings a while back. People freely gave you whatever info.they had, and in return, you provided an unhelpful, garbled, unspecific and probably inaccurate list of what's supposedly available in the Queen archive. I don;t think you've provided one bit of info. that someone here didn't already know about. The latest "info." is about Fred playing the RS, which would be genuinely interesting if we could trsust you, but of course you "can't" talk about it because you're under orders from the band/Queen productions. Yeah, right... |

GB, this isn't rare footage. We all remember Freddie stepping in for Brian at Live Aid and playing the Bo Rhap solo .... it's on Youtube. |

Holly, I'm sure you understand the main point I made, and know exactly what I mean. I would never expect you to say as much, or agree, or anything resembling basic agreement, but just for a change will you consider how it might be from my side of the fence. I think I put my point over well enough, and I think that most people will appreciate the basic premise of having to keep ones trap shut about private work matters, rather than spouting off inappropriately. It's not a difficult concept. Re the info I gave about the QPL archive... well, simply, I can only tell what is there. No more, or less. Would you prefer than I made stuff up, and exaggerated, just to keep you guys sweet? |
Holly2003 02.02.2010 06:17 |
And the one-way flow of info. continues... Queen productions are bit like the beautiful young girl who guards her virginity until she's so old and wrinkled, no one wants it any more. If Queen aren't careful, by the time they're ready to release any of these "secrets" no one will give a toss any more. |

You guys are not very observant then? You can see Fred playing the Red Special on the USA documentary THE CHAMPIONS from 1979. How long has this documentary been doing the rounds now? It's at the start after the band are coming off stage in Houston in 1977. |
