BBC 2 are screening the legendary 1975 Christmas concert.
But what have they done with the aspect ratio?
Rather than broadcast in the original 4x3 aspect ratio - they have broadcast in 16:9 widescreen.
Now, for widescreen lovers that may seem good news - but they have not cropped the picture - rather they have squashed the original 4x3 into a 16x9 shape!
So it looks like Freddie & the rolly-polly gang.
(Yes I do have a TV that can change aspect ratio - but I thought it was stupid to broadcast in this format)
Not sure which source you're watching it through, but I'm getting a 4:3 picture from both Sky and aerial Freeview, without changing my TV settings. In fact, the TV automatically changed to 4:3 just before the show started.
And it looks very nice indeed!
I'm not an expert on boots, but is this a new audio mix? I always thought Freddie's "I rule with my left hand" line was missing from the start of March of the Black Queen on every source that exists?
Thought it looked fantastic to be honest... sound was amazing through my headphones. The audio was the highlight for me. Raw Queen at their best. I didn't axpect the sound to be anywhere near as good.
Got it recorded On Demand so I'll give it another watch tomorrow, but all in all I'm very impressed with what they showed and can't wait to see if this'll get released in full. Hopefully let some of the GHs lovers get a taste of early Queen having a ball.
I'm still watching a 4:3 TV, and there were no issues with that.
Thank God it's in 4:3.
I was having nightmares about the DVD being widescreen, but hopefully that won't be the case now.
