What do you think? Which Queen's song is most wistful? Or does it's lyric mean a lot to you? And why (if not a secret)? For me it's Too Much Love Will Kill You - as a warning for me that you should not give yourself all away for something or for somebody. It's probably wisely to save yourself for the greater good:) sorry for english, hope you'll understand me ;) |

Body Language definitely. haha just kidding. For me, probably, um...Drowse. I honestly don't know why. Its just something about the lyrics are really intriguing. I don't know. I'm also a sucker for the sad songs so that also may be a reason. |

I'm torn between One Vision, Under Pressure, Innuendo, The Miracle, Is This The World We Created?, All God's People, and The Show Must Go On because they are timeless pieces. You can say that each of these songs were written for current events. Nothing's changed. Queen had great insight into how sick the world was/is and the struggles to live in it. |

"Somebody To Love". The lyrics are so eloquent, as well as Freddie's vocals, that there's nothing really left to say. It's a moving, wise and poignant song with an amazing universal appeal. Freddie managed to reach this effect while imbuing the song with a very personal mark which prevents it from being a collection of cliches and commonplaces, as many "universal songs" are. "Spread Your Wings". That pattern of behavior - Sammy's, that is - is a syndrome, really - and it's all very beautifully and cleverly addressed in the song. A wonderful song, anyway. "Under Pressure". Talks to everyone by talking to a few - the definition of good lyrics. And, well, probably We Are The Champions. But then I really abhor any kind of defeatism, so that's probably the reason I like the song so much. That the four songs are much more about personal struggles than utopian cliches helps improving their lyrical content as well, to my taste. |

The Prophets' Song. "Ahh, aah, children of the land/love is still the answer take my hand." Wise then, wise now, wise a thousand years ago and a thousand years from now. |

Surely It's a hard life and Somebody to love. Only a genius could write and sing those songs in this way. The way of Freddie sings "life is though on your own" is more expressive than any other words. I think that HardLife and Somebody to love are pure samples of how his songs born from his soul. |

You Take My Breath Away. Quite simply,a beautiful romantic song written by a genius. |
dragon-fly 24.09.2009 11:11 |
The Prophet's Song- mysterious, Bohemian Rhapsody- intriguing, Sail Away Sweet Sister- sweet and nice, These Are The Days Of Our Lives- beautiful, I Want It All- very true:), the last line of White Man- wise, Good Company- jolly lesson. And I adore Brian's Resurrection. |
John S Stuart 24.09.2009 13:21 |
I wish this came from 'The Prophet's Song', as it really sums up QPL rather nicely. It also succinctly summerises George Orwell's "Animal Farm", or for those too lazy to read, try listening to 'The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again". "Prostitute yourself he says, castrate your human pride Sacrifice your leisure days Let me squeeze you 'till you've dried Don't look back Don't look back It's a rip off... " It must be a very fine line between spam and whoredom. |

In the lap of the gods...revisited. Life is real (don't particularly LOVE the song but the sentiment gets me everytime) Nevermore That line from Save Me that everyone loves - 'I hang my head and I advertise a soul for sale or rent'. Mmmm - it's hard to separate the lyrics from the syntax and the melody - Don't try so hard. And the show must go on - it makes my stomach flip and not in a good way. |
A Word In Your Ear 24.09.2009 16:52 |
Don't try Suicide & Coming Soon from "The Game" "When you do it, all you do is get on my tits" "Somebody nagging you, when you are out with the boys" Does those two lines refer to married life? lol. |
goinback 24.09.2009 20:10 |
Probably "Good Company". Other than that, there are moments, but Queen didn't have too many profound lyrics IMHO (and I think Freddie especially agreed with that)...Queen were generally more about the music than the lyrics I think.... |

Brian could write some pretty good lyrics when his muse was in full force. I love the lyrics at the end of White Man: "What is left of your dream? Just the words on your stone A man who learned how to teach Then forgot how to learn" |

I'm torn between these two gems: "You take my body I give you heat You say you hungry I give you meat I suck your mind You blow my head" and "You say You call me up and feed me all the lines You call me sweet like I'm some kind of cheese" WTF does "you call me sweet like I'm some kind of cheese" even mean?! |

HEAVEN FOR EVERYONE - "Listen - what people do to other souls They take their lives - destroy their goals Their basic pride and dignity Is stripped and torn and shown no pity When this should be heaven for everyone" IMO, on topic, the most wise Queen lyrics and very accountable for actions throughout the world these days in a global sense, as well as one to one. Energy leading up to these lines from the instruments in the MIH version and the sheer power of Freddie's singing gives this song such a perfect ending, and really comes across as if they truly believed in what these lines were portraying. Roger's best song BY FAR lyrically and musically. Brian's SAVE ME contains his best lyrics and again IMO,his best song also. Again, Freddie did a fantastic job in his performing of this song, giving it that extra special quality that only Freddie could bring to a song... especially live. Freddie's best is SOMEBODY TO LOVE and you've got to love the genuine but simple feelings behind John's charming YOU'RE MY BEST FRIEND |

Get Down Make Love - a very simple message of what life is all about, but perhaps the lyrics are still too complicated Don't Try So Hard vs. Hang On In There - this just refers to anyone trying to achieve anything. Looked on the quantity of engagement set in the achievement from too less to too much. Which of them is more wise depends on the listeners state of motivation. |

What's so complicated about the lryics in "get down make love?".....it's a pretty straight forward song if you ask me. What's the message?...do we really have too go there, lol. I would say for the lryics, The best from each member are.......... Brian (some freddie) - the show must go on, the song is simply about never giving up, no matter what life is putting you through........Roger- these are the days of our lives, remembering the good times. That's what life is all about............John- spread your wings, an inspirational song about confidence and taking chances in life........Freddie- Love of my life, one of the best love songs I ever heard. The song is about freddie's love for mary austin, and breaking her heart when he came out of the closet, but will always be the love of his life. |

Lyrically, I love ITTWWC? and Mother Love (and not just because of the holy-crap-this-is-sad factor). From Q+PR, I'd have to go with C-Lebrity; "They're gonna love me/ I can't sing and dance at all/ Some may say I'm lackadaisical/ And if I was real good I'd/ Stand no chance at all" Bicycle Race is good because it sums up the whole idea of Queen: doing what you love no matter what others say or think. Don't Stop Me Now is along that line, too; being determined and having a good time. I think a lot of Queen lyrics are ignored or dismissed because of the gloriousness of the instruments and vocals (I'm very guilty of that!) and it's easy to do, but i find that if I look at the lyrics without listening to the music, I get the message a lot clearer. |

Please queen fans, some comments on this one. Ok, if nobody wants to give you an explanation, I'll try. First of all you must know- it is Freddie's song, so nobody knows the meaning for 100%. The song is a kind of a fable, fairy-tale. The pivot of the song is a battle between ogres. The rest is just "decoration". Hm, that was poor explanation... |

I think Drowse got great lyrics . I love the last verse most, because it's like being in bed and you're really bored but don't want to get up and do anything after all... Cool Cat also describe a lot of persons out there. It's always hard these things with Queen, Top 5 lists and such - I enjoy all the songs, though I'm not very fond of "Coming Soon", even though it's in fact getting better every time I hear it... I think you know what I mean!? Great King Rat is funny, You Take My Breath Away and In the Lap of the Gods are the most romantic songs ever, The March of the Black Queen is just great... and so on! |

Drowse: The lyrics intrigue me and make me laugh, as well as summing up everyones feelings about sunday's. Lol. Its a very insightful song thank you roger :-)!! Is this the world we created?: Amazing!! In dance I'm doing a dance to this song, and my dance is about the bad bits of the world etc. so this song is absolutely perfect!! Thanx Bri!! :-) All Dead All Dead: I love this song, but it really moves me and makes me very sad. 'The time that comes to everyone' summed death up perfectly. Another excellent song from Bri!! :-) I'm in Love with My Car: I don't know why, but this song really touches me! Weird!! But I think it's because it shows that someone can love an almost inanimate object over a human!! Rog really excelled in this one!! :-) Another one bites the dust: Only because this song rings true!! Everyone does bite the dust at some stage!! John often writes songs about facts of life!! Go Deacy!! ;-) Misfire: A really sweet love song, in my opinion, it's Deacy's best song. It's lyrics are excellent, and I like the music. Go John!!! ;-) Delilah: Certainly not Freddie's best song music wise, but a brilliant song lyric wise!! I really like the fact that he loved his favourite cat, Delilah, enough to write about her!! It's a beautiful and moving song!! Well done Fred!! ;-) The Show Must Go On: Once again, not Freddie's best, but the lyrics always manage to pierce my soul enough to make me want to cry!! I will, of course listen to this song on the 24th November!! Beautiful song though Fred!! ;-) I can't choose between these!! 2 insightful songs from each member, and there are heaps more!! |
