I hope someone of you can help me. Many years ago when I saw the Magic Years 1,2 and 3 I remember there was a place where Freddie appeared in a ballet performance. Please could you tell me more about it - how was it called/ when has it been performed and even (I guess I'm asking too much) if you have it recorded could you please share it or at least share some sources I can see it from. I would like to see the entire show. Thanks.
and for everyone else (i just found it doing exactly the above magical search): link
a few fantastic pictures from the rehearsal , never seen them before
Wow Miklos, thanks a lot for the pics ! Never seen them before.
BTW was the performance mimed ? Was the song played from the speakers or did Freddie sing it live ?

Yes, but the available video is silent overdubbed with the album audio. So there are at least 3 possibilities
1) mimed performance
2) backing from tape + live singing
3) live singing + support band
I could be wrong but I have a vague memory that the orchestra played with the performance and that Roger remarked that they were out of time and undisciplined...but maybe my memory fails me here?

"One of the most frequently asked questions we've heard is about the work Jamie did with Freddie Mercury...
HERE IS JAMIE'S ANSWER:
"In 1978 or 1979 I did one gig with Freddie; a charity show at the Coliseum in St. MartinÂ’s Lane, London. We ran through the songs ('Crazy Little Thing Called Love' and bits of 'Bohemian Rhapsody') in the afternoon with Fred but without the full orchestra and he said we were "fabulous". Made my day, that did...
Fred was on stage with the Royal Ballet (wearing a leotard and tights, obviously!) and I was in the orchestra pit with the Royal Philharmonic. Dame Margot Fonteyn was there and very amused by his performance!!"

It seems that they have play it live. This is new to me, as i allways thought that it was mimed.
Yes the tracks were played by the orchestra - I just found the article (an interview with Roger) from years ago where he said the orchestra was terrible...
