Does Lester still hang out here? I have quoted the book, Queen, Complete Works, by Georg Purvis here a couple of times. Last time, on the thread why roger and freddie solo got it right but brian failed, I mentioned something about Brian's song Nothin' But Blue being a showcase for the Red Special, by way of a quote from Queen, Complete Works (QCW), only to be corrected that the guitar that Brian used for it was an Ibanez that had been a gift from Joe Satriani. Part of this information was on the Back To The Light album it turns out - thank you bhm0129ad. So fellow Queenzoners asked who is this Purvis? We never heard of his book. So I looked for information about Georg Purvis, to find an interview with him at Bechstein Debauchery: link Then I found a book review of QCW at epinons.com: http://www1.epinions.com/content_344977936004 Here the reviewer, scapp70's, says: "Queen fansite Queenzone.com alumni Lester Burnham has claimed credit to writing the book and that the name Georg Purvis is just a pseudonym. I'm not sure if it is true or not, but I wouldn't doubt it. Lester Burnham has been contributing these album by album histories to that site for a while now." "Just a little update here, the author Georg Prurvis did contact me and affirm that he and Lester are one and the same. Lester Burnham is just his handle for Queenzone.com that he uses, and you can see his posts on Queenonline.com as well." So I'm wondering if Lester Burnham is still around here. It also sounds as though the book reviewer at epinions.com might be a Queenzoner too. BTW Lester we seem to have a correction for your book. I have been enjoying reading the background behind Queen's albums, songs, and so on immensely, but it is a little disconcerting to be called to task the second time I used a quote from it here at Queenzone! |

As I said in another thread, Lester rarely, if at all, posts on here. He does post on QOL forums though. Last time I spoke to him, he was busy researching a book about Elvis Costello. If it is anything like his book on Queen, it will be a fascinating read. And yes he, Lester, does exist...... lol |

I was beginning to think it really odd that no one here had ever heard of Lester or his book about Queen, and seeing how this forum claims to be devoted to Queen that seemed very strange. |

I noticed that there is an 'attempt' on here somewhere to get Mr. Burnham to edit his entry in his book regarding the song 'nothin' but blue', but the last thing I read from Mr. Burnham regarding his book (presuming it is the same one), he mentioned that the book is not going to be re-issued and the publishers of that book have now 'lost interest'. I could be wrong because my memory is not always so reliable though. |

This makes sense, because if you look for the book it is fairly pricey (or at least it was when I looked), as in that there is apparently more demand than copies available and it only came out in 2007. I lucked out and got mine for a relatively good price because it has a flaw on several pages. They are in a location that will likely not be too much of an issue for me. Sounds like he is already aware of the Nothin' But Blue entry, which is not surprising I guess. |

Hi there. It's true, I don't post here at all anymore, though I do occasionally surf on by to keep updated with whatever's going on in the world of Queen. Imagine my surprise when I saw a thread devoted to little ol' me, highlighted on the front page of Queenzone, no less! I am indeed Georg Purvis, as others have said; Lester Burnham is merely a name I used when I started posting here however many years ago, and apart from a few minor changes, I've stuck with it for most of my time here. I know Greg Brooks is all about using real names as usernames, but it seems that he changed his birth name to "Queen Archivist", so I'm not sure what to believe anymore. Anyway. Thanks for purchasing my book, cacatua. I'm glad you enjoy it, though I'm sure you've found several errors, as many people have -- myself included. It's inevitable that mistakes will make their way into the first pressing of a book, and I really have no one but myself to blame; I could offer the excuse that I was under pressure (no pun etc.), that I was given faulty information, that it really IS all correct, no matter what you all say, you damn bastards, how dare you question me, I am THE leading authority on Queen, DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!?!? ... But that's not true. Proofreading and double-checking information is essential, and I was hoping to make any corrections in further publications, but it seems that that's not going to happen in the forseeable future. I'd rather not go into the reasons why, because I'm not at all that petty, but let's just say that interests from both author and publisher lie elsewhere. As Mr Mercury correctly reported, I am writing a book on Elvis Costello, which may be published sometime soon ... I just have to finish it first. Also in the works is a book on The Who, as well as a foray into the world of fiction. As much fun as writing about my favorite musicians is, I find that creating alternate realities is more fun, and much harder for others to criticize; I can always retort that the reader has no imagination, whereas with non-fiction, it's pretty much cut and dry. So, thanks once again for starting a thread on me. I'm glad it wasn't as vicious as I thought it would be! All the best, as I once again fade into obscurity... |

Well, just in case you look once more, I'm glad you straightened it out that you ARE Georg Purvis, and Lester Burnham is a pseudonym, because something gave me the opposite impression, and we can't have that. I am indeed honored that you dropped by! I wasn't exactly taking you to task over the error concerning Nothin' But Blue, for which I have made a notation in the book. It is a big book with lots of fine print, and if it were completely perfect then you would have to quit while you are ahead and it doesn't sound as if you would like that. I just thought it remarkable that the second time I quoted your book I was soon informed that the information was incorrect. Too bad there won't be another printing, as it seems to be quite in demand out there. But best of luck with future projects, and thank you for taking the time to check in. |
