"FREDDIE (MERCURY) was a huge PAUL RODGERS fan, (he) absolutely adored his voice. He was a different animal, but he would have loved to be able to sing like that." BRIAN MAY insists late rocker Mercury would have approved of QUEEN's replacement for him. Source: link |

Unless they have a tape of Freddie saying it for himself somewhere, this sort of thing will only attract criticism. It's unfortunate, and quite immature, but there you go! |

After someone passes away, it seems so easy to say "what they would say or want". I am not sure what Freddie would think exactly of his replacement, the music industry of today plus the type of music being presented today. He was such a verstile musician that I am sure he would love and blend in with today's music. As for his replacement, no one can really say but Freddie. |
mworks 05.11.2008 13:32 |
It is quite clear that Freddie wanted the band to continue recording music after he passed. The last song of their last album together is...(all together now) The Show Must Go On! Maybe Brian indulges a bit in his recollection of what was said, but so what? Freddie most certainly would approve and to say otherwise is just bollocks. |
mworks 05.11.2008 13:38 |
Does anyone remeber what Freddie said on A Kind of Magic tour. "We are going stay together until we bloody well f**king die." We, meaning all of us, until the last remaining member kicks off, will always be together. Brian and Roger are fulfilling Freddie's statement to the world. They are still alive...and well, bloody well, spot on! |
Holly2003 05.11.2008 14:20 |
Fred is on record as saying he would like to have a more soulful voice a la Aretha Franklin so it's not a huge step from that to him wishing that he had a more bluesy voice like, let's say, hmmm... Paul Rodgers. |

I hate that fibber, he try everything to attract more interest in his band |

Source: http://www.contactmusic.com:80/news.nsf/article/the%20things%20they%20say%2010116_1085671 Freddie sucked at singing the blues. He was an awesome vocalist, but his blues singing was a joke. "See What a Fool I've Been" is exhibit A. The middle part of "All Gods People" is exhibit B. I don't think it's a stretch for him to envy Rodgers ability to sing the blues - especially since Freddie could sing just about any other style.. |

What are they supposed to say. "Yeah Freddie thought Paul was a tosser but he's dead now so who cares what he thinks?" It's very plausible that Freddie was a fan of his though his 'bluesy' sound seems much more akin to what Brian and Roger were probably into. They were probably together round Rogers flat and he put some music on and it was Bad Company, Brian enthused and Freddie fained interest out of politeness. |

What would Bri know of Fred's musical tastes. He was only his musical partner in crime for 20 odd years. |

Freddie probably liked their old stuff better than their new stuff, then matured and went on to different listening material. I dunno, just throwing that out there. Ha-ha. |

It seems strange that both Brian and Roger have been quoted as saying over the last 3 years + that Freddie was a huge fan of Paul Rodgers. Well, I've been a Queen fan since 1974 and never once, not in any articles, interviews or magazine/book publications did I ever read or hear Freddie mention Paul Rodgers as either an influence or as a favourite singer of his. Aretha Franklin was mentioned by Freddie as we all know and Robert Plant was also quoted once or twice. Not taking anything away from Paul (he's doing an admirable job in his own way) but never once did I ever read or hear of him, Free or Bad Company being an influence to Queen, Brian, Roger, Freddie or even John for that matter. It's interesting how this has become so since the joining of ranks? |

To the people saying Bri is apparently lying:$0$0$0$0...$0$0$0$0$0What a stupid thing to say. What would he possibly get out of it? "Well...ok...i didn't like the idea of the band beforehand but if FREDDIE said Paul Rodgers had a great voice then i'm now a huge fan"$0$0$0$0$0The fact that they played similar venues, that they would have had many mutual friends and probably heard alot about eachother through the grapevine, even if they only ever met once is going to be more reliable then interviews. I wonder how many interviews Freddie mentioned Lennon or Hendrix, or how often he mentioned bands like Pink Floyd.$0$0$0Without going through his record collection and ticket stubs the fact is we don't know who he liked, and Bri is going to be in a much better position to comment. I mean, it's the right time to say it. Paul Rodgers is the lead singer for the new band and people are critisizing him, unfairly in most cases. Why WOULDN'T Bri say that Freddie was a big fan? And again, you'd have to be both fickle and stupid for your opinion on the band to change, just because of that.$0 |

It's easy to say now that Freddie mentioned PR at that time. I think Freddie mentioned every rocker since they all were in the same industry, certainly the guys spoke about a lot of artists then, why not praise the good ones? So I believe it's wishful thinking on Brian's part. |

Freddie was great at singing blues, but then again that's my opinion ;) I love See What A Fool I've Been, it just took some more listening to like it. I also like that part in All God's People! My Melancholy Blues proves he has a good blues voice also. |

Freddie also was really bluesy on Dreamers Ball. Just my 2 cents. |

Freddie Mercury admiring Paul Rodgers is like Brian May admiring me. It's just not possible. Cheers, Hor |
