Does anyone in the know actually know what happened to Freddie's voice at the end of 78 and halfway through 1979. Most shows he seems to have something wrong? Was it just lack of rest of his voice following all the shows?
At the end of 1979 it was very strong again. At what point in 1979 did his voice restore itself.
My last show I have was the 6th of May 1979 which his voice was still suffering and then my next show I have is the 30th of November where his voice was very very strong.
Indeed, May 6 was the last show of the long Jazz tour. They soon recorded a few tracks for The Game, then played a festival show in August (where his voice already sounded fantastic again), and headed back on tour in November.
If you know anything about Freddie you will know that he's had a long history of vocal problems. I saw them in November 78 and his voice was strong at that point. By the end of the Jazz tour in Japan it was totally shot. Look at the list of concert dates for the European tour and see that there weren't too many days off between shows for him to rest. Also, it was winter and early Spring when they were on tour in Europe and Japan. Climate changes will affect you as well as partying, meet and greets where you shake hands with fans and of course germs get passed along. Life on the road isn't easy for a guy that has to sing each night and then travel to the next gig with little or no sleep. Not like a guitar player where if he breaks a sring he can grab another guitar. You can't replace vocal chords. My bassist/vocalist just called me with a nasty cold and his voice is TOAST right now. BUT we decided to go on with tonights gig despite his illness. If Fred can do it then so can we.
