Has anyone ever thought about which songs on the new album could have sung by Freddie? As much as i'm liking it, it just doesn't seem to be Queen. Just a thought........... |

I'm not sure the poster above me answered the question did he/she? Anyway this argument is quite old on here and even dare I say a little boring but nice to here that Queen had such a positive effect on you. I feel the same way about them, Queen music was a very important part of my early years and Freddies death was devestating to me. Now to answer the question, yes I have thought about which ones I could visualise Freddie singing.I could imagine him with Cosmos Rocking, Time To Shine, We believe and C-lebrity not so much with bluesy numbers like Voodoo and Through the night. However the point is that these songs were not written with Freds voice in mind, but yes you can't help wondering. To be honest I reckon Queen would be long finished by now had Freedie not died. There is no way Freddie would still be putting himself through this at 62 years old. Did he not say something along those lines in an interview once? something about "Well, because it would be ridiculous" |

longtimequeenfan wrote: Please guys - it's your job to preserve the Queen legacy. (...) My rant is over! Other Queen fans' opinions are of course welcome to comment on this (though please listen to this 'new album' first if you think you disagree!)Ok, I am a year younger than you and I think we both became fans of the band around 1992. Still, we have very different views on this matter. We are both Queen fans but we think differently and this applies to every other poster in this forum. If you take the time to read the forum you will see that many people think the same as you, as well as many people think like I do. We have all read everybody's opinions and some of us simply agree to disagree... others, not so much. My only comment regarding your post is something I borrowed from another forum member. "Queen fans ranting about the band's legacy being ruined are like little kids complaining that their parents are expending their inheritance." Nothing will ruin Queen's legacy. Everybody can go to a store and buy ANATO or Queen II and listen to it. Future Boxed Sets (yeah, right) and DVD compilations of the original Queen with Freddie will be released for you to enjoy. Brian and Roger formed a band with Freddie and John. The miss Freddie dearly. They lost their best friend SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO! They have right to use the Queen name and they were "considerate" enough with the fans to have this project called Queen + Paul Rodgers and not making Paul a permanent member. The moved on. That's what people do. |

For lords sake if you don't like it don't listen I for one do, Freddie is gone & I actually think he'll be sat there in heaven thinking "I could do it better than Paul", the track Cosmos Rocking for example. |

Who cares what Freddie Mecury could have sung on this latest studio l.p.? Worried about the music somehow being different? Oh the horror! Worked for Fleetwood Mac didn't it? |
Martin Packer 18.09.2008 04:21 |
I don't have an opinion on which songs Freddie could've sung except possibly that he could've sung them all - only DIFFERENTLY. What I do know is that people who turn their backs on QPR are missing some fantastic Brian May guitar, some great Paul Rodgers singing and some really good Roger Taylor drumming. Now, *I* wouldn't miss THOSE if I could possibly help it. :-) |

Isn't ironic that it all started with Brian and Roger in the late 60's and now it will end with just the two of them. They've worked damned hard to make the Queen name a household name in virtually every country in the world (and a few other countries i've no doubt never heard of!), so why should they not use the Queen name now? They do have the decency to have the "+ Paul Rodgers" tag. After all, they will get more publicity and more sales of both album and concerts by using the name they spent their lives building up than if they went by "Brian may & Roger Taylor of Queen" (Or even "Smile" for that!). Also, respect to Paul for insisting to Brian & Roger back in 2005 that more Queen songs were played on tour than his own. I missed out on seeing "Queen" live - at the very last minute my Mum decided not to let her 15 year old son get on that coach to Knebworth in '86, "Don't worry son, you can go and see them on their next tour". Yeah, thanks Ma. Since Freddie's death and the Hollywood remasters of the Queen albums came out where I heard instruments I'd never heard before, I've learned to tune out the vocals and focus listening to the instruments as much as possible. Frequency extraction software that is available on some "sound software" for the computer has also allowed me to remove or dumb down vocals and lead guitar a lot so I can now listen to the backing instrumentation and backing vocals of all the Queen back catalogue including the new album. As basic as the new album sounds, there IS actually a lot going on underneath Pauls voice and Brian's guitar that you don't normally hear! Anyway, my point is this: I wasn't impressd with Paul as choice for lead singer in 2005 (why not Jeff Scott Soto, who can actually sing the songs properly?), so i focused on the music and do you know what? I was listening to Queen. Not Brian & Roger together, but Queen. You put Brian May & Roger Taylor together and instead of two solo artists you get the guitar sound and the Drum sound from Queen. Let me say that again. You get the sound. of. Queen. So. For those of you dislike Paul's vocals. Go see a concert anyway and just focus on the music. You aren't going to get to hear Brian & Roger play live together any other way, and if you've never heard them play live together you don't know what you're missing. They are STILL the best damn live band out there regardless of Freddie & John not being around anymore. |

damn straight, be happy for what one has when one has it. like a lot of ppl i was born to late to see them with freddie. (thank god for live at wembley), but i would give anything to see them as they are now, but i doubt they would come to australia.. any way thats my 2 cents |

Still nobody seems to be answering what songs they can imagine Freddie singing. This thread is turning into another should they be Queen things? Partly my fault but I'd be interested to hear peoples thoughts on the original question. Which songs from the new album can you imagine Freddie singing. And I for one am greatful for this version of Queen as I was robbed of the original when Freddie died too soon. |

I saw them 4 times with Freddie.. 1980, 1982, 1984 and 1986. I saw them in Hyde Park in 1985 with Paul (and REALLY enjoyed Imagine and Say It's Not True) and I'm really looking forward to seeing them in Nottingham (now the ticket's arrived). |

scottmax 18.09.2008 18:55 |
I think that people are missing my original point. I think that We Believe and Call Me would have been ideal songs for Freds voice. I too am grateful for this new enitity which is QPR and having not seen the original line up live, the closest i've got is Brian at Whitley Bay Ice rink and Newcastle City Hall and Roger at the Riverside, i'm so happy that i, and thousands of others can see and hear the music live again p.s My girlfriend thinks Call Me sounds like the Woolpackers Hill Billy Rock (Hill Billy Roll) What does she know, she likes ABBA |

They started out as Smile, and this is clearly not called Smile is it? Or if you want to go further than that, isn't it ironic that they started out playing all by themselves, and Brian kicks the bucket Roger will undoubtably continue on as Queen... That is how the band started you know! brians wig wrote: They do have the decency to have the "+ Paul Rodgers" tag. It's a practical decision the two of them ha have made after performing as "Queen" with a plethora of disposable artists in the past decade. The "+Paul Rodgers" monicker is NOT a problem, as it's extremely descriptive. Just like Queen & David Bowie was the perfect name for 1981. What IS the problem is half of the band using the full band's name, and like you say, making a commercial profit out of it. Artistically they are gaining NOTHING from it. |

Maybe they should call themselves "Que?" :-) |

scottmax 25.09.2008 05:23 |
There are Queen like songs on the album, a lot could be classed as solo material as has already been discussed on here. I just don't think Pauls voice will ever sound right while he's under the 'Queen' name |
GonnaUseMyPrisoners 29.09.2008 22:58 |
Well put, Brian's wig. Well put. I'm not sure I want to encourage "unbelievers" to flock to the concerts this year and next, because I'd rather have "converted" seated next to me singing/shouting/screaming along with Call Me, Love Of My Life, and Small at the shows (should they do them), but the spirit of your message is right on. Don |

I think Freddie could have sung all of the songs but in a slightly different way, adding his spice. C-lebrity definitely. |
