O.K, this will probably sound controversial to some on this web-site, you probably know the arseholes i refer to...... here goes THE SONG SOUNDS GREAT!!! fuck all the dickheads that say queen are not queen without freddie, the ones that dislike paul etc, etc. Take the song as it stands and make your own minds up, i like this type of song, big riffs and powerful lyrics. Brian and Roger are now stepping away from the shadow of Freddie and trying to create a new album, they are using the name queen , and why shouldn't they (my opinion only!!) I know that i'll love the album and listen to it over and over. |

I seem to remember reading somewhere that John Lennon didn't like the sound of his own voice and so most of his solo stuff had some kind of an effect on his vocals. Maybe Roger is the same. Happiness and Electric Fire both had their fair share of vocal effects. |

You may be right, you may not. When you consider whats in the charts just now its as good as anything. Queen are as probably more loved in Britain now then ever before, so they can probably exploit this with the new release. |

I wonder how they decide on a final take for the studio versions of songs when he delivers stuff differently each time! I'm betting that the song will get picked up and played on all sorts of things like Big Brother etc... over their compilation bits etc... very clever marketing if you ask me. Definitely a Roger type song lyrically, and tunewise in the chorus. Surprisingly modern sounding, and actually doesn't sound much like anything else at first listen (although reminded me a bit of Thunder??) Can't wait to hear the studio version. not at all what i expected, i can see what brian meant when he said it sounds "new". its a nice enough tune, really good riff and an all right chorus. but it didnt do it for me really. maybe its a grower, but lets hope they have some better and more classic-sounding tunes in store. its a kind-of strange choice for the first song to market from the album really. but then again bruce springsteen chose radio nowhere as the first single from his latest album and its nowhere near the best or most representative song on it. so i reckon there is still hope. what an amazing singer paul is though! im a fan of his, but still i didnt think he had this in him! |

You guys really seem to rattle on about who Queen was or wasn't. Surely its got nothing to do with us what they call themselves?. This is Queen now weather we like it or not. Is it the same as before? Of course not. Are they as good? No. But this is it, better than no Queen at all in my opinion |

If The Cross released C-Lebrity this week, it would chart at #80. If Queen (with Freddie) released it this week, it would chart at #8. In either case it would still be a mediocre tune fit to a Cross-album, but it would sell a lot more if it featured Freddie on vocals. I don't probably need to remind you who is currently singing with Queen... ;) |
roy_fokker 05.04.2008 05:27 |
Well, trying to avoid the extremes (the ones who hate anything done after 1991 and the ones who love everything related to queen), I think this is what we can agree upon: - the song is based on a Roger Idea (there are moods recalling I cry for you or People in Streets); but most of all it reminds "the Cross" (think of, i.e. 'Rough Justice' or 'Contact', which is not necessarily a bad thing.. what is sure is that this - at least this song - has no strong ties with the classic Queen we were used to). - The riff sounds heavy, and follows the trend of AOR bands that turned up distortions in their albums (think of Europe's Secret Society or Bon Jovi's 'Hook me up'). This said, it is a hard rock riff, but quite a simple one, as well as the solo. - They decided - at least for what appears in this song - not to be prisoners of a classic style, but to work together on what they musically feel at the moment. This is courageous and is a sign of creative vitality, but, we have to be prepared (had we any doubt left) that, names apart, this is not Queen.. or, if it is, it is a new chapter, that will likely split fans more than before bewteen 'pro' and 'contra'. One more personal consideration.. I hope this is not the 'best' they have to show of their cooperation. This is 'good', but I am used to quote queen as much more than 'good'. |

Think you're finding it hard to come to terms with the fact that Freddie isn't singing - comparisons are inevitable in that case!cmsdrums wrote: Well Heaven For Everyone was a The Cross song that didn't sell well, but when recorded by Queen was a massive hit in the charts.I honestly don't think that's such a good argument for you. :/ The Cross was a band that reached #74 in the singles chart at their best, while Heaven for Everyone was the first new Queen release with Freddie after his death. If The Cross released C-Lebrity this week, it would chart at #80. If Queen (with Freddie) released it this week, it would chart at #8. In either case it would still be a mediocre tune fit to a Cross-album, but it would sell a lot more if it featured Freddie on vocals. I don't probably need to remind you who is currently singing with Queen... ;) Collectively, Queen and Paul Rodgers have sold over 300 million records so do they need it to be a hit? I don't think so! |

It sounded ok, can't see it being a big hit - is there even any point in a physical release? Thinking about it later though - this is the "lead single" - the strongest, most commercial track, traditionally. So this is, on some levels, felt to be the best/most representative song on the album. In which case, I think it's going to be as average as some of Paul albums. Not bad, but not particularly memorable either. (and i could have sworn the last chord played after the commercials was from WATC) |

The rift was awesome, the solo got me really exited. But the chorus was disappointing. I know this will most likely be the single, but if it is I hope the chorus is improved on the studio album. The chorus actually isn't that bad, it just contradicts the heavy rift and the verse far too much, it doesn't blend very well. I will admit though, whilst it has some very cool points, I wasn't really impressed, and whilst I don't care too much about the commercial success, I don't think that this will chart very well at all, and I hope that the new album has much more to offer. Like others have said, something that we have to remember is that this is Queen+Paul Rodgers, not Queen. I will keep this in mind whilst contemplating the new song. |

Ok My 2cents is, alright song, have to listen more hopfully it'll grow on me. Chorus was poor but i did like Rogers vocals, lyrics wise my hubby thought it was a bit like a 5 year old trying to rhyme, Nothing clever, subject matter naff. Dont think it will chart well if they realise it as a single. Loved Bri's playing, great standard of rock and if there's more of the same on the album it will be worth it. Personally i like Pauls voice but the lyrics were again just too naff. xx aishasweetness xx |

I think we're all forgetting that poetry set to music doesn't automatically equal a #1 hit single. Some of you are giving the average singles buyer too much credit! Let's take a look at some of the lyrics in the current UK charts:
#1, 'American Boy', Estelle:
He said Hey Sister. It's really really nice to meet ya. I just met this 5 foot 7 guys who's just my type. I like the way he's speaking his confidence is peaking. Don't like his baggy jeans but Ima like what's underneath them. And no I aint been to MIA I heard that Cali never rains and New York heart awaits. First let's see the west end. I'll show you to my bedroom. I'm liking this American Boy. American Boy#2, 'Low', Flo Rida featuring T-Pain: Shawty had them apple bottom jeans (jeans) Boots with the fur (with the fur) The whole club was looking at her She hits the floor (she hits the floor) Next thing you know Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low Them baggy sweat pants And the Reebok's with the straps (with the straps) She turned around and gave that big booty a smack (hey) She hits the floor (she hits the floor) Next thing you know Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low#3, 'Mercy', Duffy I love you But I gotta stay true My moral's got me on my knees I'm begging please Stop playing games I don't know what this is But you got me good Just like you knew you would I don't know what you do But you do it well I'm under your spellFirst of all, I've never heard of any of these singles, or even any of these musicians. But I'm sure they're catchy songs, with an instantly recognizable chorus and hook. Now, I'm not saying that 'C-Lebrity' is the best song ever written -- for what it's worth, I liked it, it was enjoyable, but very "typical" of Roger -- but for those of you saying that it'll never be a hit, think about this: 1. Can you remember the chorus? 2. Can you remember the hook? 3. Did your foot tap while it was playing? If you answered yes to any of those, then it has a decent shot of being a reasonably successful single. (Of course, QPL have to get off their asses and promote it.) I'm not saying it'll be #1, or even Top Ten, but I bet it'll make an appearance in the Top 40. |

I personally, was very impressed with the song. This album appears to be a very healthy alternative to all of the shit out there in pop and mainstream rock. Anybody with a brain can tell that this song had to have been Roger's brainchild...it sounds to me however that there was input by all three of them. It sounds like a desperate "see, we can still ROCK!!!". I like it better than the horrible new version of SINT. Nice guitar-riff, heard it a million times before though. Also nice drums. Shame they couldn't come up with a decent chorus. It actually sounds pretty (too) much like Roger in the late 80s/early 90s... quite boring. All in all, I'd prefer it as an instrumental 1'30'' version without a chorus :) |

Why should everybody have to love the song just because it's got Brian and Roger on it?? And to call everybody who doesn't like it a dickhead?? Come on. I'm not one to get into the debate but Queen are NOT Queen without Freddie or John. The use of the name does not bother me, but lets not kid ourselves... this is not Queen. If they truly wanted to step away from the shadow of Queen as you say, then they would not be using the name that Freddie came up with over 35 years ago. Bring on the album... here's hoping it's better than the first two tracks that we have heard. I am excited by the prospect of a QPR version of Warboys, and I am hoping that there will be some great tracks on the album. I was always more of a fan of the non single tracks anyway. |
