Greg Brooks had a session this year where he played a few items from Brian's own archive rather than the Queen archive. He played an unreleased track from 2001 (someone will no doubt remember what it was called and post the info here), "ain't nobody teasin around" live from the montreux rock festival - though he didn't know if it was 2001 or 2005, an unreleased theme from an abandoned TV show called "The Strip" and a few individual tracks from the master tape of "On My Way Up" (ie, vocals, guitar, backing vocs). He also wasted 11 minutes playing the entirity of Brians A-B test of the Burns guitar from the CD which came with Guitarist magazine (or whichever it was). Regards Queen news, he stated quite catagorically that no work had been done on the Anthology boxset in the last 3 years - he had been pulled off that project to catalogue the video archive and the fruits of that labour have resulted in the find of a lot of 16mm (and maybe 35mm) film including rushes of those promo videos shot on film and not video. He also said there was an immense amount of stuff from the mid to late 1970's (he mentioned 1977 as a specific date) so we may get a Led Zepplin style 70's DVD set at some point. He also said that this means there should be material included in the anthology boxset that wouldn't have been included had the boxset been produced 5 years ago. As far as the boxset is concerned, there are NO defintive plans as to what format it will take. It could be a huge boxset of 30 discs, it could be a little boxset of 10 discs or it could be lots of little sets. No decision will be made on that until EMI tell Queen when they want the set. Obviously the "planned" 2009 release date isn't happening. Greg said there would be a "November" release which would be a "biggie", but he wouldn't elaborate. I can't blame him as I'm sure he doesn't want to raise our hopes only for EMI (or Queen) to change their minds yet again a la "Singles Boxset". We were also told that work had begun on a BBC Sessions release (of all 6 sessions) and there would be some great "extra" material on there as well. Now, I'm putting 2 and 2 together and I reckon (hope) that when the BBC Sessions come out it will include Bob Harris' recording of The Champions video shoot (which was on film).... I've also heard from other sources (so this is speculation) that the Hammersmith 75 show is planned for DVD release, but there is a problem with "Now I'm Here" on the master tape and Queen are trying to track down the 1976 Japanese TV transmission tape... That's it. If anyone else has anything else to add that I've missed, feel free. |

Wow, fantastic news - without the box set part, of course. Thank you |

Give over Cro. I'm too old for this April Fools day rubbish. I can always delete and re-post this tomorrow if you like. |

Hi Pootle, I've been there, too. Did we meet without recognizing? I was the one who interviewed Per Bartels, the chairman of the Belgian QFC during the first break. Quite interesting speeches and Greg's promises ... hm, I think you have to take everything he says with a huge grain of salt. |
YourValentine 01.04.2008 09:31 |
Thanks, David, very interesting :) Personally, I don't hope for the WATC video shoot - that is just too good to be happening. The BBC tracks themselves will be a great release - hopefully with the unedited WWRY. |
PieterMC 01.04.2008 10:03 |
I will believe it when I see it. We were promised the BBC tracks once before and it never happened, so I will not be holding my breath for it this time. |

I will post a transciption of what Greg said in the next couple of days, also Spike & Jamie (for what worth) peter Freestone I didn't bother listening to as he tells the same stories every year - Freddie tried to make tea with cold water once or something. Bruce Murray went to school with Freddie, didn't call him "Bucky" kept in touch a little in th eearly 70s and now manages the Quireboys. |
Roger's Beard 02.04.2008 05:01 |
Looking forward to your transcript PG incase I got anything wrong. I also spoke with greg afterwards, so some of what I posted is from that "quick" chat. Nummer2 - I've no idea if we've met or not. I'm afraid I didn't know Per Bartles was being interviewed so I can't put a face to you. |
Nummer2 02.04.2008 05:05 |
Don't worry pootle, I wasn't there at all, I was just preparing an April joke (supposed to come in a second post), but I didn't have the time to get back to the thread in time. Btw, I don't know Per Bartels either ... |

You all know what Queen should do starting next year in 2009? They need to start doing some audio releases of some concerts that have nothing to do with a concert film. |

They should have some great shows in their archive, for example London'78 shows. |

I wouldn't dare, he looks so unapproachable... I starting writing it all up and got bored. Greg, since you'll presumably have a look at this thread at some point, any objection to having your spoken word uploaded to the internet, with all musical content missing? |
Roger's Beard 02.04.2008 19:30 |
Greg isn't unnaproachable, but he is careful about what he says and always tries to cut the conversation short. I'm sure he'd like to scream from the rooftops and tell us what he's found and what's coming out and when its coming out but QPL will have his balls if he says something he shouldn't. If any of us had Greg's job, you wouldn't risk losing it would you! |
Penetration_Guru 02.04.2008 19:41 |
It wasn't a criticism, more a comment on his lugubrious face and (seemingly) solitary nature. Still, I've got smashed teeth and he could have been dancing on tables every second I didn't see him for all i know... |

Griffin wrote: TY pootle1! sounds like you had a good time at the convoYes I did thanks - for once! For the last five years I've been thinking about not going anymore, but Greg's session was the one thing that kept me going.. This year I went without the mrs and had a great time. It was like being at my first convention again and being able to stop up til 3am talking to people and not having to worry about anyone else and not having someone nagging about how bored they are (because she's not a "fan") and can we go home a day early or back to chalet early at night etc. |

If any of us had Greg's job, you wouldn't risk losing it would you!I've spoken with Greg a few times, so yeah I can vouch for what you say here. He is very informative and helpful to answer some questions, but like you said, sometimes he cannot fully, if at all answer certain questions because of certain various factors (eg. not enough info known, or it's 'confidental' per request of QPL et al., etc.) He definitely isn't unapproachable, but he has to be careful with what he says at times, because he has a lot of privileged knowledge very few people could ever get to know, that he would LOVE to share with us, if only it weren't for Jim Beach and company :( He doesn't work FOR QPL, as he has stated many times. He is a freelance worker, and likes to keep a low profile in public. Same goes for Justin Shirley-Smith, who I've also been in contact with. He's been able to answer a few questions of mine rather interestingly, with answers I did not expect to receive for the ones he WAS able to answer, but at the same time, he also couldn't answer a few questions, mainly technical information about certain concert master tapes. Much as we'd like to think that Greg or anyone else QPL-affiliated is just hoarding a lot of rare stuff and information just to tease us and piss us off, you have to understand time over and over again that they have requests from those 'up there' that they HAVE to adhere to in order to keep their jobs with those higher up. Just my two cents. |

Thanks for the update! I didnt make it to the convention this year either, so thanks for the report. |

Pootle1, who wrote... Greg isn't unnaproachable, but he is careful about what he says and always tries to cut the conversation short. If any of us had Greg's job, you wouldn't risk losing it would you! GB... You are ABSOLUTELY right. You'd probably be staggered at the number of people that still do not grasp the points you have accurately and succinctly noted. Thank you for that. Even at the various conventions I get people saying, "You HAVE to tell us more. You MUST elaborate on what little you said. It is just a tease when you only say that 'something great' is in the pipeline, but then you won't say what." Well.... I can either HINT at things, or 'tease' if you prefer that term, and in so doing keep you guys excited by what's coming, or I can say nothing at all. I get VERY excited when I hear about certain product is happening, or planned to happen, and what I'll be working on (with the Queen team)... so I just like to impart a bit of that, share what I can. And most people 'get it'. And they respectfully leave it at that. While others get VERY shirty, angry, irritated, obnoxious, abusive, even aggresive. I'm used to those kinds of people. Pootle, you summed it up just right. Please SPREAD THE WORD to those who still give me a hard time. Isn't it nice to know that 'something' great is heading your way at the end of this year (if it stays on schedule), and look forward to it, rather than know NOTHING???? I think it is. We are working VERY VERY VERY hard to make it a really FAB product. Regards |

Greg Wrote: "Isn't it nice to know that 'something' great is heading your way at the end of this year (if it stays on schedule), and look forward to it, rather than know NOTHING????" I hope it DOES stay on schedule and doesn't get postponed indefinately like so many other projects have. Maybe we are better off not knowing in the first place.... I hope you found the Champions Video Shoot that Bob Harris filmed amongst all that 16mm/35mm film... |
