Ok since I've now decided to cut down on television (thanks you know who you are..:D) because I realized that I do watch too much television, I have decided to listen to some new bands (or listen to bands that I've ignored for a while). I am beginning to listen to Led Zeppelin but don't know what to start out with. If anyone listens to them, what are some singles I can start out with? I'm also reviving my interest of Creedence Clearwater Revival but don't know where to begin. I listened to them as a child (thanks mom) but forgot about them. What are some great songs from them? Any suggestions to listen to any other classic rock bands or any good modern bands would be great. I'm also beginning to like Bad Company, Free, David Bowie, basically just classic rock. Thanks! |

Thanks! You've loverly taste in music, then. :P As for Zeppelin, well, I don't know which were singles but they've got so much great stuff. Kashmir, Over the Hills and Far Away, Black Dog, Rock and Roll, Tangerine, The Immigrant Song, The Ocean, D'yer Mak'er, Good Times Bad Times and many many more. :B And CCR... I love them as well. You should listen to Proud Mary, Have you Ever Seen the Rain, Down on the Corner, Midnight Special, Hello Mary Lou (Goodbye Heart) and Who'll Stop the Rain. Might I interest you (If you are not already) in 60s stuff too, like The Byrds, Bob Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel. They're all excellent. :D Thar. xD |
Freya is quietly judging you. 20.03.2008 21:55 |
The Smiths. I'm just recommending The Smiths to everybody at the moment. Current obsession. Morrissey's pretty amazing though. |

I highly recommend David Bowie's albums, especially the early ones. His 1967-1974 material is the poo. |

If you're looking for a compilation of CCR...I'd have to go for 'Chronicle, Vol. 1.' If you're looking for a studio album however; I would have to recommend 'Cosmos Factory.' That is a classic album. |

The Doors, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, AC/DC, ZZ Top, The Eagles (Hotel California is excellent), The Beatles (Sgt. Pepper's is a good place to start)... As for Zeppelin, I suggest you buy the album IV first... |

I personally think Houses of the Holy is one of the strongest Zep albums. |

lol i dont have medication. I dont need to be medicated to know a good tune. |

Bowie wrote some beautiful songs in the 60s. "You've Got a Habit of Leaving" "The London Boys" "Let Me Sleep Beside You" "Karma Man" "In the Heat of the Morning" "Silly Boy Blue" etc and some good fun songs like "Love You Till Tuesday" "The Laughing Gnome" (The Laughing Gnome was about Mick Jagger) "Little Bombardier" "London Bye Ta Ta" Lots more, the 60's stuff goes on forever. Concentrating on 70s Bowie is too easy. The song "Black Tie White Noise" is not in the best 50 songs that Bowie has written/performed but This version of the "Black Tie White Noise" album link is quite possibly the best body of work that Bowie has ever released. Don't forget that the song "Bring Me the Disco King" was first written/recorded for the "Black Tie White Noise" album and that song, for me, is in the top 5 best Bowie songs. And you should check out "The Buddha of Suburbia" too. Now that album includes "Strangers When We Meet", I love that song :) |
JoxerTheDeityPirate 22.03.2008 20:18 |
^ youve got "strangers when we meet" on "buddha of suburbia"? ive got it as the last track on the "outside" album.. agreed though, that IS a good Bowie track :-] |
Roly-Poly 23.03.2008 05:32 |
"Strangers When We Meet" first appeared on "The Buddha of Suburbia" in 1993, it made it's second appearance on "1. Outside" in 1995 check track 6 link "The Buddha of Suburbia" is the "lost" Bowie album. It was originally released in 1993 as a sound track album. It sold quite well in Europe but bombed in America. It was re-released in 2007 (it was not available in the shops for nearly 14 years!!) and it's a little gem :) It's my theory that "Strangers When We Meet" is about someone dying of AIDS "All our friends Now seem so thin and frail Slinky secrets Hotter than the sun" I think that it's Bowie's way of saying goodbye to Freddie and Kenny Everett and other friends of his that died of AIDS. |
