I bought Maiden's "Live after Death" DVD today, the bonus disc includes their Rock In Rio performance. Fun to watch Maiden kicks ass on Queen's mighty Works Tour stage :-)
The funniest bit for me during the Rio show was Bruce shouting at someone behind the scenes during The Trooper. Dont know if he knew what he was saying was coming through his mic at the time, but it went something like this
"JT, turn up the sound boys, alright? Turn up the sound boys! I want my f&&king level up. Listen, Im talking to you - turn up my monitor! TURN UP MY MONITOR - Im talking to you, stupid c&nt!!!"
Hilarious!
One of the nicest things was bassist Steve "Harry" Harris commenting on Queen.
"We actually went on we were fired up I suppose in a way, cause we werent the headline act. We were directly on before Queen, and before us there was Whitesnake and a load of others, and so the pressure wasnt really on us it was on Queen. We had a fantastic show and went down great. It was actually really nice cause Brian May said afterwards he thought it was a fantastic show and they really had to work hard to get the crowd going over and above what we got. So that was a nice compliment. I didnt see it like that cause I watched them afterwards and I thought they went down fantastic but then again maybe he was just being nice. Anyway we did go down well"
Respect!
I just got this Maiden disk. I havent had a chance to sit and whatch it all but skimmed trough a little of it. I was very excited to hear this was being released (and I saw it here first, thanks). I had this on video many years ago and let someone at school borrow it and of coarse I never saw it again. I use to watch it all the time but haven't seen it in nearly 16 years (thanks to the jack### at school). I never ran onto another copy (saw a laser disk once and I didnt have the money and when I went back it was gone). Anyway since my memory is sort of fuzzy I was wandering if someone knows if this is the exact same show as the original video release or was any of it re-edited or had the credits changed (as did Rocks Montreal)? Bruce seemed to do a lot of banter before songs I don't really remember but it may just be that i've only herd this from the album for the last 16 years. I can't wait to sit down and watch the 5 whole hours of stuff that it boasts. It's been a long time-Great Concert!
Side note-I saw the original painting of the album cover at The Rock and Roll Museum years ago and I was suprised that it was pretty much the same size as the record. Amazing detail.
Great to see other Maiden fans on this board.
The Long Beach concert should be the same as the one on the original video. However, the concert on the live album is from a different night, so the stage banter is from the same venue, but not from the same concert. You'll especially notice it before Rime of the Ancient Mariner. On the record he says something like "And the moral of the story is what not to do when a bird shits on you", on the DVD (different night as they played four nights at the Long Beach Arena) he goes on about marijuana and Queen Victoria and her menstrual pain.
This package is awesome anyway, especially the Poland experience and of course part two of the history documentary. Nicko always cracks me up (going for a swim in the middle of Rime of the Ancient Mariner...or the "Mission From 'Arry" story) and Bruce must be one of the most intelligent guys in metal.
However, as a Queen connection, there is a glimpse of Brian May being in a pic with the band and others, which is also in the booklet of the 1998 re-release of the album. And as another maybe discussion-worthy connection: for years I thought Queen in Budapest was like the first major show behind the iron curtain. Well, I now know that it was not.

Priceless moment during the poland video when a guy in that Metal Club talks to Bruce:
"I want to play Heavy Metal with the synthesizer!"
-"You can't play Metal with that!"
"That's what I'm trying.."
ohh, the 80's ;-)
