I've been wondering about this topic for quite some time and always wanted to know...
When/where/who exactly started the Queen tribute bands?
I've always wondered about that. Who was the first ever Freddie impersonator and what was the first ever Queen cover band ever?
Who were the first to do it? The british themselves maybe or some other country and when did it all began? The 90's probably but when?
I'd really like to know, always been quite curious about that.
Is that the Japanese tribute band KWEEN?
Haha I saw them play in Camden, in 2000 I think, went as a joke thinking they would be awful, but they were brilliant, it was very funny though. I think it was one of their last gigs, I'm sure they said they were splitting up as it was taking up too much of their time.
German band Mayqueen: A tribute to Queen and Freddie Mercury link was founded in 1987 by the current guitarist. though its line-up changed in 1996 and again in 2007, Givin me the chance to perform some of my favorite Queen songs to people that love to hear them! Dunno if it was the first even QTB but it certainly was the first in germany.
Wow,some of them around that long? And thanks for the link to your site Inmydefense on Mayqueen, cool band, cool cover and everything.
For me,the first Queen cover band I discovered on the net was a german one called the great pretenders and they were cool beyond words.
THe first american Queen cover band I discovered was called Sheer Heart attack on a film caleld Tribute, and have been intrigued by cover bands, especially Queen.
