I think the worst cover is "Under Pressure" with Joss Stone. She just sucked all the life out of it! And what the hell does all that moaning have to do with the rest of the song, anyway???

Hee hee. I have heard a portion of Joss Stone's version, so I can't really speak. Did you like the Killer Queen tribute? Was it good, or pretty bad? :)
I dislike most of that album, but there are two gems on it: Shinedown's cover of "Tie Your Mother Down," and the Flaming Lips' cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody." Shinedown just took the track and made the hardest-rocking version of it out there, really pushed it to its full potential. The Lips went out on a huge limb by rearranging the song as much as they did (hell, they went out on a limb just attempting it!), and it works amazingly well--unlike Constantine's unimaginative, straight cover of a song he doesn't have the chops for.
The rest of the album ranges from the Constantine problem (straight covers by artists who don't have the talent to touch them) to just downright bad reimaginations of the song. "Champions," "Crazy Little Thing," "Under Pressure," and "Sleeping on the Sidewalk" are particularly hurl-worthy.
All due respect...I'd have to disagree with your opinion on Joss Stone. They re-arranged the song a bit to fit her style perfectly. I thought she did a good job. She wasn't covering them...she was just trying to pay tribute. I thought Jon Brion's version of "Play the Game," was pathetic! IMO, it was the worst song on that album. A close second place would have to go to Josh Kelley's version of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" was a disaster as well.

It sounded like something out of "Rent." That's not a good thing for a Queen cover to do.
The Joss Stone cover takes all the passion and immediacy out of the song. It sounds like the work of an American Idol contestant trying to "R&B up" the track so he or she can do a lot of Whitney Houston-esque vocal hysterics. "Hey! Look at all the crazy vocal show off things I can do! Whoaaaoooaoaaaa .... WHOOOAAAAOOOAOAOAAAAOOOO!!! Wooooo ha hooooooooOOOoooo whoaaaaa ho ho ho waaahhhhh!!!! Pressure yeah! Woooooo yeah yeah yeah wooo wooooo woooHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

When Dave Grohl sang it at VH1 Rock Honors, I was unimpressed. He just kind of screamed through it. When Taylor Hawkins sang it at Hyde Park, I thought it was a considerably better performance.
It's not on the Killer Queen album, regardless. Shinedown does a(n excellent) cover of it there.
I laughed when I head Shinedown had covered Tie Your Mother Down. It' hard to imagine. I heard 30 seconds of the track at Borders and was actually impressed! :D
I rather liked the cover of Crazy Little Thing there......I forget who the singer on that is, but its the Cars's guitarist on it.......kinda gives it a unique sound....
