lyricalassasin_77 wrote: How in the hell can you not go and buy this somewhere's if your getting it from somewhere? I just don't get it at all......If its a DVD like you say then why can't you purchase it somewheres?? I guarandamntee you that you canThese bootleg companies who manufacture these discs are mostly in Japan, usually in limited quantity of a few thousand. It's a major industry out there. If you've got a tape of an uncirculated Zeppelin concert, there are at least 5 of these bootleg companies that will pay you ten grand for it. If they sell a 2cd set for $50 US, they have to sell 200 copies to break even. There are definitely more than 200 collectors who'd kill for any new Zeppelin recording. Before all the bootleg info websites were around, buying these bootlegs was always a gamble. It might have been crappy sound quality, or it even might not have been the concert that the cover said it was! Bootleg companies have been known to intentionally print the wrong date on the cover, as they would try to convince the buyer that they were buying a new show, when in reality it was just a common concert in disguise as another. But these days, all you need is for one person to buy the bootleg, post on the internet somewhere, and others will know if they want to buy it or not. Sometimes people buy bootlegs just for the cover art, even if the music itself isn't anything special. They often have beautiful pictures inside which can be found nowhere else (that is, until they're scanned and put online, of course) There are shops in Japan that sell only bootlegs, and even some shops that specialize in a single band. There are Stones, Beatles, and Zeppelin stores in Tokyo. There are pictures of Jimmy Page in one of the Zeppelin stores, as he's the biggest LZ collector of them all! |

I've just run 1 of the Vobs through G-Spot and i've never laughed my fucking head off this much before. Can someone please explain to me the point of getting the "really good" audio so that they can sync it to the video of the show. Then to compress it to AC3 audio AT...(wait for it).. 192kps. Fuck me if uncompressed wasnt good enough ,at least AC3 it to 384kps.........What was the fucking point of spending what was no doubt a lot of time & effort ,to fall at the final fence. Should of expected it on QZ though...a picture and a sound means excellent??? :shakeshead: This isnt aimed at you Babs(unless you made it)thx for the share and that. Sir GH

ah yeah
wrote: 928... This is from a silver, on the Wardour label, so nobody here is to blame. Is the video at least lossless? Its not from the master recording Bob that's for sure, but it doesnt help that it's the screen being filmed. That tekky wasnt too clever back then was it! Mpeg2 is indeed a lossy format Pittrek(i think Bob meant is it master recording) :Personal Opinion: Its from a 2nd/3rd Gen copy that has also been reencoded when synced to the new audio(but that may be generation loss). That new audio has been screwed to AC3 AT 192kps.It has a few minor faults and is badly edited in a place or 2 during playback of the movie. I give the video 6.5 and the audio 7 as it's compressed to a level lower than a good quality Mp3. Menu gives an option of audio 1 or 2 not saying which is which..(Babs does a better menu). :Overal....as a production: The lossless audio CDs will make the bootleg set collectable. BUT I would wait for the repack on the video. It will come from somewhere ;) |

So are you saying that every DVD-R encoded from a VHS is lossy, even if it's 60 minutes and 4.7 Gb? To have a full 2 hour show would be 25+gb which isn't(wasn't) practical(Blue-Ray etc will change that).Higher Bit rate ,the better the quality..but certain factors come into play. This was ,i presume from a VHS.I dont know how it was recorded (camera)or transfered to VHS. Now VHS only had 240 lines or so in its resolution to start with so you cant afford to keep copying etc as it will lose its stats pretty quick. You also dont want to compress the transfer or that fucks it as well...as does re-encoding with poor knowledge of video and how its made up. Basically, you can get 4.36GB onto a 4.7Gb disc as DVD-Video ,including the audio. The rest is menu & bollocks. So from VHS it should be transfered using S-VHS player/output which will give you the best recording of the master transfer. Keep the bit-rate for video at the highest allowed (dont forget you have audio to add & 4.36Gb to do it in)to keep all quality of the original. That rate will probably be more than needed. If the video & audio takes it over the size for 1 disc...use a DL Disc or 2 x 4.7s 1 hour at the highest rate IS the best because of technology ,but it's still lossy as a fact. I have missed a hell of a lot out...but ,bit at a time and you'll remember more. :Side note for readers: It doesnt mean that its ok to convert a VCD to DVD....it will still be a VCD that is now in a DVD bit rate ,not a DVD.You wont get back what was never there from the master transfer or how it was transfered and each copy/compression/re-encode says bye bye to History & Quality. Thats why its important QZ people......you decintegrate History when you screw the source. You don't get it back you know. Keep it how you got it and then look for better. You will find it. |

For me he is a hero :-) He stood in the midst of 120 000 people and filmed the complete concert off the screen while nobody at QP had the brain to record the feed to a tape. Today the screens are better and you don't get these bad pictures but we would not have Knebworth if not for this wonderful fan who made the effort. I wish I knew who he was. |

Then we would have the master and could show Wardour how it's meant to be done. The taper did the right thing from where he was positioned. It's just technology(tekky) that let the recording down. I was at Live Aid the year before and remember the screens.Broke a size record they did. Buggered if you could work out who it was on stage 1/2 the time looking at them. |

This guy had a great idea to film this 'outdoor screen'. Only big shame that in this time this large screens don't had enough good resolutions so we see those pixels. But overall, somethinks better then nothink, right :) I remember old copys from years ago with realy shity quality (b/w or yellow green fruit jelly) Compared to other amateur videos from Magic Tour this one from low generation tape is realy good. From Paris is also nice but this shaky camera and lack of original sound in the first 20min, wrrr... Newcastle and Manchester - recorded to far but that new copys on DVD are quite good. And Dublin - damn, why it's a edit from 2 cameras and so stupid recorded - one cam from far another one close to stage but they filmed mostly hands and hads. And the rest of that material probably lost, right ? Vienna is also fine but picture is to much dark but zooms are fine. Knebworth is complete and I watched this more times then above stuff. PS I personally hope that are some people have hidden in his houses other videos from that tour. |
riku_queencdr 29.04.2007 05:36 |
I guess Wardour had to make a compromise with the sound. If they could do only 1DVD release (all their CD+DVD releases are 2CD+1DVD), the sound was already lossless on the audio CDs. In that case they most likely rather kept the best possible quality for the video and compressed the audio more heavily. The video quality is identical to the best possible known (previously) circulated copy. At least I don't see difference between them but maybe I'm just blind... |
Madman 29.04.2007 05:52 |
Right, some months ago I got another copy on dvd and there is no difference in quality. My previous one is on PAL format but for sure the same generation tape. I sometimes reduce sharpness on tv to minimalize pixels of that big screen and looks bit better. |

But you may have a PAL only player...........(very unlikely in Europe though to be PAL only). ttthhe wrote: i don't understand why you share stuff with quality like this??? it is not a pleasure to watch something shot with a gsmSome of us appreciate this video because it's most likely the only video we'll ever get from this important concert (and it's actually much better quality than previous versions of the video, believe it or not). If you're ever going to watch and listen to unofficial recordings, your quality standards need to drop a bit... but then your appreciation for the band can counter that, as you're seeing and listening to stuff that gives you a different perspective of the band that the official releases will never give. |

ttthhe wrote: ...it is not a pleasure to watch something shot with a gsmOh dear.. I'm not exactly sure what you mean with GSM but if you refer to a cell phone, I have some news for you: This was definitely not shot with a GSM cell phone because in 1986 there were no GSM cell phones. |

ttthhe wrote: i don't understand why you share stuff with quality like this??? it is not a pleasure to watch something shot with a gsmHahaha, gsm... in 1986... Good joke :D, just LOL poor boy. I say once more quality is great - I watch this some days ago once more and it's still superb for me. Of course if this person will shot band on scene, even if will be close to stage quality will be also quite good (this equipment what he use looks fine when we see on zoom out big screen and that 'inflated dolls') but for sure not so good - we will don't see Freddie's smiling, playing rest members and all joint good editing. |

I see 8 seeders, and am trying to seed myself (though I have already uploaded 13.8 GB on this one alone ;-). But, in my case the problem is that the tracker again does not respond properly to announces (see my posts in the sticky at the top for an explanation of that). Others may have the same problem. (It's incredibly annoying, not least because I see seeders for Stockholm 1977 and Newcastle 1979, both of which I have been trying to get for ages now.) Oh well... just hang in there, there are seeders, and sooner or later connections will happen. |

Yes, the Wardour version is the best "commercially available" video of this gig. But still, it's a PAL > NTSC conversion, and it's a couple of generations away from the master. But the GREAT thing is that it has 2 audio tracks |

Randy Butternubs 14.06.2018 21:06 |
I have a bit of a technical question about this DVD and other DVD's I've gotten online. When I go to the .VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder, some of them say in the info that they're 26+ hours long, which obviously can't be true. When I use MPEG2Cut2 to join the VOBs together into a single .mpg file of equal filesize (4.33Gb), the runtime is only 21 seconds. When I load the file into Sony Vegas Pro 11 for editing purposes, it again will only read the first 21 seconds. Is there a way I can fix this? The Wardour DVD is obviously the way to go with this concert, and I've had this trouble so often in the past I can only assume there's a way to get the files to read properly that I just don't know about. Any help is greatly appreciated. |
pittrek 15.06.2018 09:56 |
The most important question is why do you care? Messed up timecode is a completely normal thing with the VOB container. Back in the days when I was still doing DVDs I used to fix them using DVDLabPro, but that is not free. However if you put "fix vob timecode" into google, you will find a few tools, e.g. this one - link (I warn that I haven't tried it). OK now that I read again your post, is your workflow ripping the DVD, joining the VOBs into 1 file and then try loading it into Vegas Pro? That's a pretty bad idea, Vegas isn't very smart about these things. Try PGCDemux to demux the movie to elementary streams, and try importing them to Vegas (you will maybe need to convert the ac3 file to wav) |
