This wasnt a bad version by any means. Musically it sounded really good. No instrument overpowered the other for instance (I have a hunch that this was recorded professionally rather than a home made one). Another nice touch was the solo itself. Not a direct copy of what Brian did.
The main criticism I have is with the singer. He really struggled with the high notes here and was a bit too low in the mix for me.
but like I said, its not that bad at all!!
Acoustic guitar WAY too high on intro (this returns later on I hear).
Weird drums sound. Also sounds like the drummer's just showing off a lot in the middle of the song...
Agreed, singer struggles a weee bit. But not badly. Also balanced well enough so I wouldn't say he's low in mix...
Acoustic guitar returns as WAY too bassy on the middle bit at 2:01.
Ending is wayyyy too long. Wonder if they were trying to copy the Live Killers version timing. Should have ended 2 minutes before! Just really drags out especially with a 40 second fade out. I think that would've been fine if it didn't just repeat the same thing over and over. Sounds like an afterthought.
I think overall it just lacks a band feel, if you get what I mean. It just sounds a little pieced together part by part, rather than a band playing it. But even if that was the case, i.e. one person playing all instrums (don't know, just guessing) it's still possible to get a band feel going.
Yeah, it's sonically (for the most part), fine. But the performance feels a bit blah.
Adam.
