I know he's annoying. But it was April Fools and it was quite funny, give him a break. |
Boy Thomas Raker 02.04.2007 12:24 |
I think the humour quotient on QZ is beginning to match the intelligence quotient. In order for an April Fools prank to work, there must be some degree of believability in the prank. So numb nuts posts that Brian and John are getting married. Is that believable? No, both are happily married. Is it funny? No, because it's idiotic and the premise of a prank is gone. So please tell me how a random post which contains no truth or no attempt to fool the reader is funny or clever? Maybe Greg Brooks was right, Queen Zone is Moan Zone is Moron Zone. |

On one of the Who boards, someone posted an official-looking article that, based on the success of NBC's 'Grease: You're The One That I Want', FOX was going to counteract with 'Tommy Can You Hear Me?', in which fledgling dancers and musicians were going to battle it out for roles in a TV version thing of Tommy, with Pete Townshend, original Tommy Broadway director Des McAnuff, and someone else as the judges. It SOUNDED official, it LOOKED official, and it was plausible, but -- obviously -- it was a joke. Whereas the sheer absurdity of Brian and John marrying each other, as well as the fact that the posted article stated that it was Brian and ROGER marrying each other, just isn't funny. One April Fools prank I recall from here that was funny was when (I think) DeaconJohn somehow renamed all of the forums to something to do with Jaffa cakes. |

You know Lester, I'm becoming an elitist about QZ. I first came here 7-8 years ago, and there were tons of knowledgeable posters. Someone recently said that there are 6 worthwhile people here at this moment in time, I'd say 15-20 tops, and outside of them there's not much value from the rest. |
PieterMC 02.04.2007 13:10 |
Having spent entirely too much time here over the years since 1997 I can honestly say that the board has never been as crap as it is now. There used to be such as GREAT community spirit, which is now sadly gone. Instead its mindless topic after mindless topic. |
Winter Land Man 02.04.2007 14:55 |
Well, by reading the names on the article, I don't think innuendo1990 wrote it. |

I've been registered for more than five years, but I only became a regular several months ago. I may be flattering myself, but I wouldn't put myself in the same boat as the freakshow who started this moronic thread. V. |

I mean, too many people out there see Queen as a gang of fags doing bad power ballads. So for them, it could be logical that two members in Queen falls in love and marries. I mean, they are all gay. |

Oh my god. Will someone just set up a board or discussion group that's invite-only and be done with the QZ board? I'm getting sick of this democratic thing! It's what brought George Bush and people from the Netherlands heckling people and putting up bad jokes on Queen boards! |

The site needs a new board, where all the features work and more moderation (not censorship). It would be SO easy to setup something like PHPBB and transfer everyone's accounts over there. It's sad when I would rather post on QOL than here. |

I don't think moderate is perhaps even the correct word. More people to make sure stuff is posted in the correct forum. 10 mins to install? Surely you can do it in 5 :-D The part that would take the longest would be transferring the topics / posts to the PHPBB database, but even that would be a pretty easy thing to do. I've done something similar before and it only took an hour or so. |
bigV 05.04.2007 11:38 |
PieterMC wrote: 10 mins to install? Surely you can do it in 5 :-DI could, but I like to double-check everything during installation. Hence the ten minutes. V. |

You know what I'd like to see happen with QZ? I think it should turn into a Queen-related wiki thing (Elvis Costello has a similar one -- link ) where we can grant access to many knowledgeable posters who can contribute to this thing. Also, turn the forums into that PHPBBBBPBPBPPBB thing. It would be the ultimate place for Queen fans. |

IMO it would also be a good idea for Richard to let others help with the development of the site as he does not have the time to do all this by himself. |
bigV 05.04.2007 14:50 |
As much as I like phpBB it's not really secure. For all you know I could be administrator of QOL in 2 hours. There are better alternatives, but most of them cost money. V. |
