Is it just me or does the game album leave you wanting more to listen to? i often listen to the game and whilst there are some great songs on there and a new fresher queen sound i find it strange that the album finishes after 36 minutes!!. Where as most of the other albums are 40 minutes+ the game is too short in my opinion, and i think they should have least put one more song or even two at 3 min lengths to cap off a brilliant album. Does anyone else have a similar opinion or am i talking complete and utter utter bollocks. Your views please. Cheers from J..R HARTLEY. |

Two comments: 1. The band were working on two albums simultaneously ("The Game" and "Flash Gordon") so this could account for the shorter running time of the album. 2. If you want a 40-minute album then stick "A Human Body" after "Save Me" and there you go. V. |

V.Bigv i would have loved to have that on the album somewhere on side1 but i would have to let you know that they finished the game in april 1980, then had to set up and tour america for 3 to 4 months that ended in sept 1980,only after that did they record 'flash gordon' and it took eight weeks to make and was released in dec1980. |

i stopped listening to this album...at the time (1980) i hated it ...then it grew on me...and yes there are soem great songs...but it feels hollow. it has the start of the (imo) horrible 80s sound. also...it doesn't flow naturally, and feels like a load of songs rather than an album |
Daveboy35 29.03.2007 12:45 |
Hi brenski I have also thought that but it hasn't bothered me but then again JAZZ is just as disjointed as the game. |

For me, its just not an album that I go back to all that often in the same manner as say, ANATO. No cohesion imo |

To me it is a great collection of songs none of which I don't like but it does seem to be too short for a Queen album |
ITSM 29.03.2007 13:22 |
There are 10 tracks on The Game, and there are 10 tracks on A Day at the Races, which is my favourite album. I can't remember how long A Day at the Races is, but I don't think the length decide if an album is good or not. I probably don't answer your question, but .. . By the way, I think it could be 9 songs on The Game, "Coming Soon" is the worst Queen-song in my opinion... |
JoxerTheDeityPirate 29.03.2007 16:18 |
i agree that the album seems a bit on the short change side but i dont agree that a human body should of been on it.for me that song should of been on fun in space instead. isnt the works roughly the same length, but it doesnt seem like a short album? |
bigV 29.03.2007 16:54 |
I think it works well as an album. It's diverse, it explores music styles that Queen had never tried before (nor should they again!), it had lovely harmonies and amazing guitar work. There were weak songs in terms of songwriting, but there were also some brilliant moments. And I agree that "Coming Soon" is a horrible song (as is "A Human Body"), but the album features one of Queen's most underrated tracks - "Sail Away Sweet Sister". Overall, I like it. It's one of the albums I play the most. V. |

Oh my. I remember the ladies having a fun time while I was playing my The Game cassette in my truck! Tons of ACTION! ;-) ... just a note, I could get more action with Hot Space than The Game or any other album! I miss those days sometimes. But I must be settling down now. |

I don't understand why people hate coming soon so much. It might not be thier best song but it is not crap at all. I can name more songs that are inferior to it. Don't try suicide is far worse than it. lus the notion that it is the the beginning of the crappy 80's sound is not right either. Sure this is the album that started the synths and had some disco new wave feel to it, but the small mixture of it works. Example is Rock It which rocks, no qustions asked. This is the type of sound they should have used on Hot Space, instead of the all out disco and mostly electronic sound. The works and AKOM just has terrible production. Re produce those and some songs that are weaker than the rest could be updated in a much better fashion |

Yes, I also enjoy cumming soon :) But honestly, the game is too long. It's an album with only one really good song - AOBTD, the others are just average pop songs, which leave me no reason to listen to the album almost daily, like Live Killers or Opera. I mean the songs are not bad, but nothing special. |
YourValentine 30.03.2007 07:30 |
For me "Save Me" makes up for 5 songs, I never get tired of it. It's one of the amazing songs I can come back to at any time. |

I have to say that without Brian May's three songs this album would've died a slow and painful death. Vlad |

It is a short album - probably down to the style of being short, pop songs. |

that album is too short imho(is that the one where they nearly killed each other while recording) |

Hence why IF and hopefully the Queen catelog will be released on Blu-Ray disc so that they can expand their studio l.p.s with more unreleased tracks, some alternative versions of songs, demos, outtakes, instrumentals, remixes, old filmed and audio interviews, new filmed interviews, and if they have any behind the scenes filming of their short films or in the studio...and full packaging too! (Not crappy paper packaging something that can be used without being worn out such as how any other regular c.d.s are done...ya know?) Imagine all of that like a "Classic Albums" d.v.d. on each release plus 5.1 surround sound. Dear God let this happen! |
PieterMC 30.03.2007 10:22 |

The Game would've been great if they'd skipped Coming soon (terrible, I hate it) and perhaps if Rock it (prime jive) had continued like it starts instead of the shit that follows after the wonderful intro. Roger wrote some lame song during that era. Also, the experiment with the sucky synthesizers on some songs should've been skipped. |
Micrówave 02.04.2007 13:18 |
If memory serves, I paid $6.99 for that album. Today, on CD, they cost about $19. Today's CDs usually are about 60 minutes long. The Game was slightly over 30. I'd say we got a hell of a good deal!!! |
PieterMC 02.04.2007 13:20 |
Coming Soon and Rock It are great songs. |
Asterik 05.04.2007 18:57 |
It's really not a good album at all in my view. That most of the songs sound far better live is an indication of how poor the production is. Dragon Attack, which ought to rock hard is kept in this horrible dry sheen that sucks all the life out of it. Coming Soon goes nowhere, Don't try Suicde is tuneless drivel and Rock It is appalling- horrible bleeping synths that sound like microwaves and threadbare new wave guitar. Crazy little thing called Love is decent but again is far far better live, Save me is alright but would have soared if RTB had been producing. Where were the mass vocal harmonies that could have taken it up a few gears? As I've made quite clear, I like Queen's eighties work but I have no time for The Game. There is virtually no bona fide rock, the production is lifeless and it's terribly un-Queen. Sorry, but that's my view on it. |
Crezchi 08.04.2007 14:00 |
Nope! I love this album, i can listen to it all the way through without skipping tracks. A human body is a splendid track, but leave the album the way it was. |
bitesthedust 09.04.2007 05:37 |
The Game has always been one of my favourites, but this (and albums from News Of The World onwards) doesn't have the cohesion of the first 4/5 albums. By this point they had gone into a new direction with Mack's production and I think the sound and style had more to do with exploring the new direction than working on Flash Gordon later in the year. A Human Body is a nice track but I'm not convinced that it would have fitted in with the other tracks on the record. Just a note re. Save Me, and the possible better product had Roy Thomas Baker been producer; he worked with the band on Jazz and that lacked cohesion as well. |

Nope, The Game is just fine as it is, it's great to drive to and I like every song. I thought it was short 26 years ago but now would'nt change a thing about it. A human Body is a nice song, but in my opinion would probably sit better on Roger's Fun In Space LP |

I agree. Honestly, I like The Game more than A Kind Of Magic. And I would leave it the way it was, too. I actually like the song "Don't Try Suicide". |
goinback 19.05.2007 16:54 |
It may be so short due to the technical limitations of vinyl. There were five songs on each side of the record, so putting one more song on either side may have pushed it just long enough that it would have to be mastered with significantly lower sound quality on one side to squeeze everything on. |
