Just a quick note for the records collectors. We have a new 4 cd box-set here in Italy called: Queen & Freddie Mercury - The Definitive Collection It's an original limited edition not available in record shops but only as a gadget with a music magazine. It has been released in 4 weeks with one cd for each week and it's now difficult to find. Who needs it for his collection could send me a swap list (only rarities obviously) or can buy it from here: link Regards, Giancarlo |

Hi Giancarlo, Thank you for posting! Does this item have a catalogue number? If it does, could yoy please post it here? I read on an Italian forum that on the discs and inlays there is an additional logo of Sorrisi e Canzoni. I do not know if you could post scans of those? Thanks in advance. Ciao! |

Looks very nice. The special box and the song book.. wish I had the money to spare :) |
claudiox 18.03.2007 15:07 |
I left a message in the NEWS section a few days ago. Personally I didn't bought those articles: simply I don't need them. bye Claudio |
QueenCollector 18.03.2007 15:10 |
There isn't any catalogue number in the visible part of the box but there's maybe on the back of it. I don't want to open it from the carton stand because it will loose much of its value if I open it. About the logo: yes it's present. Regards, Giancarlo |
Walter B. 18.03.2007 15:40 |
Giancarlo: thank you. I fully understand that you don't want to open the box! I see that on the red carton there is a barcode. Could you please give me the numbers that are on there? Most of the time the labelnumber and the barcode are identical. |
QueenCollector 18.03.2007 15:47 |
Of course! The barcode says: "9 770038 156437" on the down side and "7001>" on the upper side. All the best, Giancarlo |

Thanks! |

bigV 19.03.2007 08:57 |
Quick question: What's the magazine called? V. |
Walter B. 19.03.2007 09:27 |
Sorrisi e canzoni. An article (in Italian) about this can be found on their website: link |

Doesn't look official... just another Italian counterfeit release if you ask me. |
QueenCollector 19.03.2007 13:04 |
It's 10 years since we don't have any counterfeit edition in Italy, mainly because of the strict laws about the author's rights. The things have gone differently in Germany (where a lot of pirate picture discs and black vinyl records have surfaced in the very last years) and in UK (where the pirate cds market is yet alive). I don't know what do you know about Italy and what do you think about, but considering your last sentences I suggest you to point your opinions from pizza to spaghetti only, and avoiding to talk about record-collecting because you don't know that world. And since who is talking is one of the most influent Queen collectors you can take my words like pure gold, darling. |
onevsion 19.03.2007 13:36 |
pfffft.... boring! Just gave my opinion about the box set. Nothing more nothing less... looks like another Italian counterfeit if you ask me...! |
QueenCollector 19.03.2007 13:55 |
Can you also support your opinion with an adeguate experience in record collecting or it's just an opinion based on what you've read on your horoscope today? No, that's because who writes howe the following items: link and notice that's only an out-of-dated (26th Sept 2006) list. |
QueenCollector 19.03.2007 16:07 |
I've uploaded other photos here: link link link Them show also the back of the box and the back of one of the cd's. Notice the silver hologram that belongs to SIAE (Società Italiana Autori ed Editori) which is the Italian copyright association. I hope this stops any stupid cheat. |
claudiox 19.03.2007 16:23 |
I don't know nor cant't see: Sorrisi & Canzoni released this box set. What's the problem? If you want have buy it from Giancarlo, although leave it in his hands. bye |

If it isn't anymore, fair enough, but it is understandable that past reputations affect our judgement. |

Thesis: Your sillogism is completely wrong. Dimostration: We was used to wear tunics during the ancient Rome time. We don't wear tunics anymore, now. Paradox: Do we must wear tunics because we were famous for that 2000 years ago? And also: where do you yet find the brave to say that Italian issues are counterfeits? Was the 7 inches "The Show Must Go On" red vinyl a counterfeit? Was that the Brian's 12 inches "Too Much Love Will Kill You"? Or was it the 12 inches "We Are The Champions (Live)" B/W "We Will Rock You (Live)"? And so on... In my opinion the most dangerous counterfeits come from Germany: Just think about the Cross "Liar" 12 inches which is quite the same of the original. Or the "New Dark Ages" 12 inches which luckly doesn't show the baby face on the front sleeve. The perfect copies of the Checz coloured vinyls from the first album "Queen". The fake Bulgarian "Greatest Hits" picture discs. The fake Japanese "I Want It All" promo in multicolour vinyls. The fake "Larry Lurex" counterfeits. Etc... And the things don't go better in UK. That's for sure you won't find any stupid Italian that says that any German or English issue is a fake one because they have been (and are) pirate centrals. It's simply pretentious to say that. It's like we say that any English man is a hooligan or any German man is a Nazis. Do you find it's a clever point of view to judge the actual things from their past? I don't. |

I want to say my opinion about this release... I'm from Italy and I bought the 2 cds (GH & GHII). These look like original, but some little things quite made me change idea.. First of all, here in Italy, in these days, we have NOT any bootleg market more, because of the strict laws... and in this edition there is the S.I.A.E. (Società Italiana Autori ed Editori / Italian Authors' and Publishers' Association) logo, which means that we're dealing with original material. But, the covers aren't surely original.. they look like scans from the original.. and I've to say, really bad scans, comparing with the "music store" releases.. Not only, in the GH II booklet, the text has been replaced, or better, re-written (probably for the bad quality of the scans) including some gross mistakes (for example "Freddie" rather than "Freddie")... :( So, about the recordings, I have no doubt about their originality, but for the covers I'm presumptuously sure, they are NOT original... Then, for 9,90 € each, we cannot ask for anything else... just enjoy this great occasion, having this limited edition. If you want I can post the scans of both booklets (the original and this with the mistakes).. since Giancarlo didn't open the box (for obvious reasons) Sorry for my "italianized" English.. :) |

Thank you for the extra information. If you could post scans of the Sorrisi e Canzoni versions? Could you describe the discs too please? Thanks again! |

queen7391 wrote: I want to say my opinion about this release... I'm from Italy and I bought the 2 cds (GH & GHII). You may say these are poor releases or they are not at the Parlophone best, but you cannot think that a Mondadori journal can trade in bootlegs. That's a different point and that doesn't reflect on the fact that these items are definitevely original items. |

queen7391 wrote: in the GH II booklet, the text has been replaced, or better, re-written (probably for the bad quality of the scans) including some gross mistakes (for example "Freddie" rather than "Freddie")...... sorry, quickly checked the booklet but I can not find the "Freddie" you mention - where is it...? Anyway, I agree on the bad print quality but it's a legitimate release. |
Radio-Fixer (ex 'queen7391') 21.03.2007 13:43 |
Look in the 9th page, under the photo... there's written "Freddie Mercury, 1991" |

Oohh, looking better, i found another very very little mistake.. on the 8th page under the photo there's written "I Want It ALl, 1989" with the "L"... |

... oh, sh*t ... :-D |
The Real Wizard 21.03.2007 16:11 |
I just want to skip all the crap, and ask flat out... is this another cheap pirate, or does it have anything new to offer? |
gnomo 21.03.2007 16:23 |
Totally legitimate although cheap. Not proper "collectors' item", just a smart move to reach a wider public (sold by all newsagents, advertised on all TV channels) that would not go on purpose to a record store to buy the four CDs individually. IIRC, over the last couple of years that magazine has been regularly releasing compilations and albums from several artists who are very popular in Italy (both Italian and foreign). Value added: complete lyrics book (lyrics were/are not included in the original GH inlay booklets). Good policy IMHO: I bought it because I only had GH1-2 on vinyl but would think twice before paying the CDs full-price (low budget, other items higher in priority). See "other" thread in this section for pics: [link |

Okay, thanks Gnomo. Now that I know it's legit, what about the other half of my question? I looked at the pictures, and the tracklisting is blurry, so I can't see what's on it. Or is only GH stuff? |

It's just a repackaging of the three GH compilations plus LOLSOS plus a nifty lyrics booklet. Basically four albums that I would imagine everyone has and a book with information that's easily accessible for free on the Internet. Nothing special, really. Just a nice package (ahem!), that's all. And a collector's item. V. |

... oh, poor GH ... :-) :-) It's just a box including standard GH1 + GH2 + GH3 + LOLSOS CDs; plus additional lyrics booklet. Aimed to the general public, who knows little about the band but would like to have the basics at hand, in a nice package if possible, and understand a bit about it if possible. Hope the tracklisting is readable enough here: [link |
