Does anyone here remember the Fan Club competiiton in 1990 to meet Queen in the studio whilst they were recording Innuendo? I remember the Fan Club running a piece after the event with some pictures of the winner etc.. with the band, but would have to delve around a bit to find my mag from that time.
Bearing in mind that this was not long before Freddie passed away, it would be interesting to find out if the winner has any vivid recollections of that day? Did the band seem nervous or guarded in case they gave away Freddie's health secret with a slip of the tongue?, how did Freddie seem (both physically and emotionally)?, did you get to hear any alternate mixes of tracks?, what was the general interaction like between the band?, did you take/were you allowed to take any video/photos of the day?
As we now all have hindsight of events around that time and shortly after, there are lots of things that we would now know to look out for, but was there anything at the time, even not knowing about Freddie's health, that stood out as 'odd'?
Does anyone know the winner of the comp to ask, or was the winner you????
Please tell................
This was for the making of the Miracle album i belive back in 88.
Strange as i was thinking about this just today and how i never see photos of the event these days. The were published in the fan club magazine in the autumn 88 issue. I remember that Freddie looked very healthy, a little chubby in fact, you'd never guess that he was so ill.
Thanks Paulos - I must have been mistaken about it being for Innuendo, as it does make more sense being for The Miracle sessions, as Freddie's illness was not nearly so apparent.
It would still be nice if we could find out some more info etc.. on this though
It did happen, although whether the winner would now remember overhearing a slightly different mix of a snippet of a song at the time would seem unlikely.
There were two winners. I have the fanzine and remeber entering the competition. Ironically, Roger was not there in the photos as he was sick. The photos of freddie showed him looking quite chubby and very healthy no sign of the gaunt aids look. I felt sorry for the guy who wrote in sometime later bemoaning freddie why he was refusing to tour, when the likes of Brian and Roger were hoping to do some live shows for the Miracle. There were also rumours of Queen headlining Run the world gig at Alton Towers and the Silver Clef Ivor Norvello show at Knebworth which they were asked to appear at but declined although it was unlikely that the other knew Freddie had HIV.
I don't think that you can see that someone has the HIV-virus. After developing the actual AIDS decease it becomes visible. I do not know how long before he died he actually had AIDS.

In fact, nobody knows! But you'll surely run into a lot of self-appointed "experts" who will say otherwise.
Thanks.
What a fantastic memory - and momentos in the form of the pictures - for these people to have met Freddie, especially at that time, when this possibly could have been one of the last times that he would engage in any sort of 'public' appearance.
Oh! Wow! Those pictures are really cool! Thank you all so much for them! That was really awesome that that happened! Rock on! Gosh I wish that Queen had filmed more of them recording in the studios earlier and later in their career!
