hey.
i know i'll sound really stupid for saying this...but i'm planning to take guitar lessons. i know i'm too old for it and all.... but i still wanna learn. it's part of my life list. anyhoo...
may i ask, do you recommend taking acoustic guitar lessons first or is it better if i go straight to electric?
oh! and is there any cheap but good brand of guitar you can suggest? it's just for starters anyways...
thanks for your time! :)
I'm going to get in first; even though I don't actually get paid for what I do, so I might be considered 'independent' or 'amateur'..... PAH.
Really... you won't find agreement on the question of whether it's better to learn on acoustic before electric, vice versa...
I can only say - I spent three or so years teaching myself basslines and Beatles solos on an acoustic before I graduated to my first electric. This method worked for me. Might not be for everyone.
Well, you can get a brand called "Harmony" they're pretty cheap, and they work the same as other brands. It really doesn't matter if you learn electric before accoustic (or vis versa) it all depends on what you want to play first.
How long are your fingers?
If you have a small hand and small fingers you should probably start on an electric because the neck is a little more narrow than an accoustic.
If you have longer fingers, then you might want to start off on an accoustic until you get good at your chords etc.
yep i have quite short fingers. so... i guess that's electric for me? anyhoo... thanks for the brand suggestion, squidbits! oh. and thanks for the morale boosters, if you can call them that. :D
I don't have monstorously huge fingers but I feel comfortable playing an acoustic guitar. I actually found playing an electric guitar I will over play a chord due to the thinner necks. Mind you.. I don't actually own an electric guitar so yay.
