Hello Fellers in the champions documentary if you notice there's about 5 seconds where they show freddie sitting on the back of the santa and throwing bananas to the crowd PLZ can you tell me with precision and for sure the date and the place of that concert? And i know this concert too exists more than 5 seconds on video... |
FriedChicken 05.03.2007 13:16 |
Ofcourse there is more than 5 seconds of video. Do you really think they would waste money by hiring equipment and camera men just to shoot 5 seconds of video? |
Smitty 05.03.2007 20:45 |
Was it Santa, or Superman? The latter I think... |
foreversilence 06.03.2007 16:28 |
hey fellers i didn't get to my piont isn't there anybody who knows about that concert just time and place And i think it's on the back of santa here you got the picture i captured them for the champions documentary |

Its coming for sure from News Of The World Tour USA part, November-December 1977. If its Santa Claus Freddie is sitting on, then I think we are talking about a gig from the 22th December 1977, the well known because of one particular song played that night, acousting version of "White Xmass"... Maybe Im wrong but Im only guessing. Anywawy, the time is December 1977, right before Christmas. Cheers |
The Real Wizard 07.03.2007 12:52 |
It's definitely 1979... look how short his hair is. |
Jay Mantis 07.03.2007 13:06 |
But he never wore that glitter leotard in 1979 right? Only during the Day At The Races/News of The World tour. |
little foetus 07.03.2007 13:36 |
Well, I think it is the NOTW Tour or the US Jazz Tour in 1978. Maybe some people have the book "Queen The Visual Documentary" by Ken Dean. On page 38, there is a photo of a leotard Freddie on the shoulders of Superman and his hair is quite short as the video shows. On page 39, there is another photo with the same Freddie and there is the NOTW robot on the drums of Roger. We could say it is from the NOTW Tour but on the Buffalo 78 (Jazz Tour) video, there is also the robot on the drums. I don't have a scanner so i can't show you the picture. Maybe someone who has this book can scan it and post it here. It is definitly not from 77. Watch the video of Houston and you'll see that his hair is longer. |

It's the Jazz/Live Killers lightning rig. |

foreversilence wrote: Now here we have two different photos of Freddie sitting On the Back of the robot this one notice he's wearing his red and blue leather this one i don't know from which concert does it come from but i wish somebody could tell me i'm intrested tooThe robot is Darth Vader from Star Wars. Freddie came out singing WWRY on his shoulders during the US Game tour in '80. The Santa pic is from LA 12-22-77, and I'm pretty certain that happened only once. The Superman thing was done for WWRY from April to December '79. little foetus wrote: on the Buffalo 78 (Jazz Tour) video, there is also the robot on the drums.Based on the pictures I've seen, the NOTW logo was Roger's bass drum skin on the US leg of the Jazz tour in '78, and he used the Jazz skin in Europe and Japan '79. But of course there may be exceptions. « Jay » wrote: But he never wore that glitter leotard in 1979 right? Only during the Day At The Races/News of The World tour. This is definitely from '79: |

When it comes to Queen concerts in the 70s, very little of it is known, if you look at documentation vs. concerts as a ratio. Most 70s tours have only a few bootlegs, and pictures from a few shows. If we're trying to generalize something for an entire tour, all we can do is make educated guesses. We don't really have this problem with the 80s tours, especially the Works and Magic tours, since they're so well documented. But we need to be careful. For example, some people think that Freddie only wore the green and red outfit on the ADATR tour because of the Earls Court video, and they think that Freddie wore the black one only on the NOTW tour because of the Houston and Munich videos. But the truth is, it went both ways, and there are fortunately pictures to prove it. |

The answer is in Queen - As It Began: 22-12-1977 Los Angeles: Santa Claus 22-12-1979 Alexandra Palace, London: Bananas 20-11-1980 Zurich: Darth Vader Freddie wore the silver glitter outfit when he performed with the Royal ballet in 1979 (October 7th), so it was not a one-off that he wore it on the Crazy Tour edit: I move this to the Queen forum |
Mr Mercury 08.03.2007 04:55 |
My question is does anyone know why he chose to throw bananas? |
foreversilence 08.03.2007 06:18 |
Hello again Hey YourValentine Thx for the dates by the way "Queen - As It Began" is it a book or a documentary? And Sir GH that picture you uploaded i didn't know about that it was really quite strange seeing freddie wearing glitter and on the back of superman cause the glitter suit refers to 1977. |

Also, if you look really closely to the Live Killers album front cover (which was from the Jazz tour), you could see that Freddie's wearing the glitter leotard. |

Great post. All I can add are a couple corrections. The Zurich show should be 11-23-80. And the banana clip is definitely NOT from the Crazy tour. Look at the lighting rig. Because they were playing smaller venues in late '79, they had to modify the lighting rig. Any picture from October 78 to August 79 has 5 rows of each colour of lights, while Nov-Dec 79 pictures should have 4 rows of each colour. Since they weren't doing the Superman thing in the US (and probably not Europe either, judging by the footage we've seen), I'd say the banana incident happened in Japan '79. Besides, the banana clip comes from The Champions documentary, which was broadcast in the US on 12-21-79, the day before the Alexandra Palace concert took place! |

Thx Bob for your reply And Maybe this is from Japan cause the superman looks like and is wearing eye glasses Just like JAPAN 25-04-1979 and what makes me sure that a longer version of this clip exists is this sequence of screenshots: 8)Freddie Throwing Bananas: ***AND HERE'S A NEW SCREENSHOT: I found once a video on youtube it's the we will rock you song SHOWING VARIOUS CLIPS FROM VARIOUS SHOWS FROM DIFFERENT PLACES AND DATES ( it was somekind of Montage) and this screenshot comes from that video i asked Yourvalentine about that video she told me that it's from "Magic Years" Documentary Freddie Throwing Bananas (THE BANANAS ON HIS HEAD AND HIS ARMS ARE OPEN) link ***Freddie Throwing Bananas (THE BANANAS ON HIS HEAD): This one is from "Rare Live Trough Time And Space I" link ***Freddie Throwing Bananas (THE BANANS IN HIS HAND): This is from "The Champions" Documentary link SO just look at these shots there's a SEQUENCE between them i mean : (in the first one) Freddie Came in On the back of the Superman And his arms streched as Usual and the Banans on his head then he threw some bananas that were on his head (this is the second one) and later he threw the Bananas while holding them in his Hand (the third one) So i come to the conclusion that this Clip or Even the Complete show is Available on video for sure ! Hey fellers i will try to split the Bananas parts clip from these different documentaries and i'll try to join them and then post it here but i'll do it after a while when i finish my Exams But don't you think that this Banana stuff has something related with Freddie's Sexual life? Cause he has some other picture wearing the king suit and one banana in his hand: link and even in the "I'm going slightly mad" Video too: link isn't there anyone who was there on that show ? or maybe somebody who's a professional in recognizing Queen's concerts' places and dates plz we need some informations hey Bob thanks for the correction and i wish you have some similar pictures But from Different Shows so you can post them here Thx a lot a lot |

Hehe i just finished my Exams LOL I don't want to make you wait so i just did the split and joining process (I did Nothing special) the video has been joined from 3 differents Documentaries The first less than 1 second is "Magic Years" Documentary then 2 seconds is "Rare Live Trough Time And Space I" then 5 seconds is "The Champions" documentary And here's the video download link: link If anybody has a different a clip of this show PLZ PLZ share it with US Sorry I couldn't Upload a better quality cause my internet speed is Crap |

You should have been there, it was mayhem. Squished bananas, banana peelings, banana mush all over the floors, walls, ceilings; Bits of banana in people's hair. People taking bites of banana and spitting it in people's faces. The deal was, the bananas had the first letter of the first name of a member of Queen written on them and whoever caught bananas in the audience got to come backstage after the show and feed it to the respective band member whose initial is on that particular banana. At least that's what the flyer said. Unfortunately some guy grabbed the banana out of my hand the minute I caught it. Then ten minutes later I look over there and the idiots standing there EATING it. I still don't know whose name was on it. I still have the flyer though. |
