I finally received my red special that i have been patiently waiting two months for!!! It is the most amazing guitar i have ever played, and i think that all guitar players should at least think about getting one!! |

Which red is it? (I mean, from which company) |

Hope you enjoy the guitar for a long time. |

Is it a 2006 (or post 06, I suppose) Brian guitar model? Adam. |
BUofM24 04.03.2007 00:51 |
it is an Antique Cherry 2006 Brian May Signature Model... i did buy it through musician's friend it sounds like a GEM!! the neck is beautful and easy to play, the sound is AMAZING... i do recommend for any guitarist to buy |
The Classic 04.03.2007 09:58 |
Congrats. I HAD one... a month after I got it, a jerk stole it. I never got it back either. My heart's been broken every since. I busted some butt working extra hours and saving money for it. It's been about 3 years since this happened and I still haven't been able to get another one. I am married with two kids, because of that, I am broke all the time. My wife keeps telling me I'll get another one someday... but I have a feeling that the only way I am going to be able to get another one will be when King Freddie presents me with one in the afterlife. Maybe there I can rock with the angels eh? Anyway... enjoy your guitar man. Don't let it just sit by the side gathering dust. Those babies were made to rock.... so just do it! Take care! |

BUofM24 04.03.2007 21:20 |
i will enjoy it forever.... i also own the digitech pedal... and between my old guitar and the red special... its a worlds difference in clarity of sound and the autheniticity of the brian may sound. If i had good recording software I would upload something but i dont... any good ideas? |
john bodega 04.03.2007 21:35 |

Cwazy little thing 06.03.2007 19:06 |
Ive got the '06 Red Special, and its my baby, but Ive had moments of frustration with it. Using my little marshall amp I cant find a pickup setting that gives me a fair balance between rhythm and lead - its always good bottom end, with weak high end, or not thick enough, but a decent high end, so I usually settle for a good rhythm sound, and whenever I have to play lead with my band I crank the treble up a bit. You need time to play with the pickups and with bass/treble/middle/contour controls and suchlike on your amp/pedal I guess, and I dont have much of that at the moment! Or maybe I'll just cop out and get the BM pedal....lol, or not. I have no money! Also, I actually find it harder to play than other similar priced guitars such as my friends PRS Santana, which confuses me. I think its cos the strings are slighly higher, and the neck wider. When I lower the strings though, I get a horrible vibration on the low E..... Also - when I change the strings the bugger goes out of tune every 10 mins for weeks. Anyone know a solution to this last problem in particular? I know you have to wear strings in a bit, but this seems a bit bizarre - maybe its cos I took the tremolo off? The strings were Super Slinky 10's I think......if that helps! Nice one on getting the guitar - take no heed of anything I said above - those are most likely problems peculiar to me, and even so, I love the thing - when she's on form she sounds beautiful, and she's a sexy beast too! Beautiful looking piece of wood! |
Adam Baboolal 06.03.2007 21:55 |
If you're recording into your computer, all you need is a line input (NOT the mic input) and your digi brian plugged into it. The software would just be something like Audacity. Free software that does what you need. Adam. |
BUofM24 06.03.2007 22:39 |
thanks adam, i do have adobe audition and i love it... just didnt know if there was nething out there specifically for guitar... cwazy i have the factory settings still for my guitar. The strings stay in tune and I love it. I find that a perfect lead is middle and bridge pickups in phase, also great for rythm if you have trouble finding that. I also love all three pickups on with the middle and bridge in phase and the fingerboard out of phase... it really gives it a trebly sound with no base, great harmonic setting. I believe brian plays alot with the middle and bridge pickups out/in phase. I know for a fact that with the mid and bridge settings out of phase, was used on bohemian rhapsody. I love tinkering with the digitech pedal too. It makes the guitar sound SOOOOO much better i must say. Let me know if any of this helps |
Adam Baboolal 07.03.2007 08:43 |
Uhm... bridge and middle is NOT used for BoRhap solo - I believe it's the neck (down position) and middle (Up) pickups. Others seem to think it's neck and middle both out of phase. I did a sound sample to test this idea here - link You have adobe audition?? And you're asking if you need something specific to record guitar? Dude...you have everything you could possibly want if you have that software. Just need yourself and talent for recording with a digi brian cause it's a DI device. Adam. |
john bodega 07.03.2007 11:09 |
Bridge and middle out of phase is what you use if you want to play Dead On Time. Or Led Zeppelin. |
The Classic 07.03.2007 12:12 |
About Brian May giving me a guitar. Haha... Thats funny! He's a cool guy and all, but I doubt he'll even see the email. Not too mention he probably wouldnt believe it either. I am sure there are many people out there looking for a hand out... I don't want to be another one of them. Thanks though. The serial number is 1441. If anybody happens to bump into it down the road, let me know ok? Laters! |
BUofM24 07.03.2007 15:01 |
haha ya... well i recorded we will rock you... link... it actually sounds different on my computer because i have the red special and digi pedal going into guitar port to record... then i play out through guitarport again... soo if you have guitar port and use that device to play out of the speakers on your computers... it will sound like it does to me... its not a HUGE difference but you can tell a bit of a difference... anyways this is my attempt at brian's classic on my new guitar |
Adam Baboolal 07.03.2007 15:49 |
If the guitarport is adding anything to the sound, don't use it at all. Your soundcard, provided it isn't budget basement, should be all you need. The Guitarport is for your guitar isn't it? Rather than a line-in sound which is what will sound best from the Digitech Brian May. Also worth noting is that the ac30 amp simulation CANNOT be removed. No matter what output you use, it will always be there. Adam. |
BUofM24 07.03.2007 16:54 |
well what exactly do i have to do then... because to get my guitar to play through my computer... i use guitar port... i have no choice.. what exactly should i do? |
Adam Baboolal 07.03.2007 18:46 |
Do you have a soundcard? If so, you plug a stereo connector between the Digi and the line-in of the soundcard. If you don't have a soundcard (in this day and age???) your guitarport is all you have, I guess. If that's the case, my advice is to get a soundcard cause you can get a nice Terratec for around £10-35. Nothing, for such great sound options. That is...if you want to get something with options. |
Phill the Thrill 07.03.2007 18:59 |
I want one so badly, but i can't afford it. I had a 25% off gift certificate for the online store, but they won't ship outside if the UK I looked into getting a friend in the UK to ship it to me, but it would cost like another 500-600 dollars...which i also can't afford. So i will have to make do with just a plain borning guitar . I envy anyone that has one. |
BUofM24 07.03.2007 23:42 |
haha i have a soundblaster audigy zs 2 soundcard lol i think that comes standard with all computers... well what connectors do i need then because obviously we all know we can plug a guitar cable directly into a computer sound card. At this point and time my set up goes as this: guitar-to-digitech pedal-to-guitar port-to-usb. I guess what im asking is how do i get the set up as this: guitar-to-digitech pedal-to- computer sound card directly. But another question is does the second set up offer any amplifier simulation? guitar port provides me with options of ac-30 simulation... is there something... if not guitar port... to give me an AC-30 Simulation?? |
Adam Baboolal 08.03.2007 08:19 |

It's not rocket science... lmao And forget plugging a guitar directly into your soundcard, I'm not even going to begin to tell you why that's a stupid thing to do. Now, you have your guitar plugged into the Digi unit -> take the mixer out option (with a stereo cable) and plug that directly into the LINE-IN port of the soundcard. That's it. Nothing more needed. And listen...about this amp simulation thing. Again, you amaze me on this one. I already said on the previous page that the Digitech provides the ac30 simulation because...dum de dum dum dum DUMMMMMM! It's Brian's signature pedal! The GuitarPort is useless because that's effectively getting in the way of what the Digitech pedal wants to give you. So, using the guitarport is messing up the whole affair because it's adding something that isn't needed. Adam. |

BUofM24 wrote: hey adam i tried plugging in the pedal to my sound card in the LINE-IN port and it sounds like shit compared to guitar port... So is it just the soundcard or am i just a retard lolIf it sounds bad, that's not your soundcard, unless there's a bad connection or the card's line-in is known to sound bad. When you plug the digi into your soundcard via the line-in, you're getting the true sound of the pedal and its modelling features. Exactly as intended. As well as the guitar and yourself playing through that. The only other thing could be the speakers, but if you're happy with them, then we're in dark territory. What does it sound like? Could you record something and post it? If you don't like it, then there's nothing you can do about it, except go back to the guitarport. If that's what you like, then that's what you like. Adam. |

hhaha finallyy... i attempted to give all of you interested an avid look at a 2006 red special w/ pedal here are my attempts at keep yourself alive, bo rhap, tie your mother down, we will rock you, beginning of cltcl, hammer to fall, and killer queen going from tones 1-7 respectively... dont be too harsh here it is: link |
Adam Baboolal 20.03.2007 18:57 |
Just gonna focus on the sounds. Yeah, the foxx phaser thing sounds cool on KYA. Nice forced tone on the BoRhap one. Good for a quick recording with all the sound you need. TYMD was wrong for me. Too thick and maybe too much volume from the guitar. WWRY sounded decent, but not great. CLTCL, as always fails to impress in the sound department. HTF was a bit like TYMD, too thick. KQ was again too thick sounding. My speakers pushed out a bit! Cut the bass and it'd sound ok. I think again this pedal isn't for everyone. I have an Electrolead RSB booster and a Vox AD50 amp. This simple setup seems ideal for loads of sounds. I must also add that I seem to have made an impact in the rs forum where the ad50 is quick becoming THE valvetronix amp of choice. I now have 2 ad30's, 1 ad50 and 1 ad60. The one I always come back to is the AD50. Not even the mighty ad60 model is anywhere near as good. And the best part is the cost of the amp plus a booster like I mentioned. Can't be beat. So, while it's always interesting to hear this pedal, I think it's painfully obvious that it's more of a practice pedal than a serious tool. Adam. |
BUofM24 20.03.2007 20:08 |
haha i completely agree... but for people who can afford that many amps its good for the dollar it sells for... nothing you buy is ever gonna make anybody sound like brian may... he has his own style and i simply love it. So yes i agree with adam, not a stage pedal, but something to toy around with |
Adam Baboolal 20.03.2007 21:15 |
To be 100% clear, I can't/won't keep the ad60. I bought it to replace the ad50 and was amazed to find it wasn't up to the job. In fact (VERY IMPORTANT NOTE) the treble booster I use (Electrolead RSB) overloads this particular VT amp! Luckily I had it (the booster) modified to output a lower volume. But the ad60 still doesn't sound as good as my ad50. Another note is that this is based on the Brian May sound, way of thinking. It doesn't mean the ad60 isn't a great amp cause some of the sounds it has are pretty cool. Especially good for clean sounds and the effects on-board. And lastly, I tried too other lower output boosters (SharpFX + VoxDeacy) and they worked fine. Though the sound was not to my liking. So, it has to go and will be put back on ebay. Shame. And the final footnote on the amps thing. I bought the 2 ad30's for the famous Brian May delays trick. And guys...it sounds absolutely amazing!! I use a Digitech Quad effects unit to send the delays to each ad30 and the sound is pretty sweet. I ach to take it with me tomorrow to my WWRY dress rehearsal, but I only need the ad50. Awww..! Mind you, one of the main guys running the show is a Queen fan. Maybe if I ask nicely enough I'll get in!! lol Adam. |
Cwazy little thing 21.03.2007 15:22 |
Just so no one thinks Im rude - I realised some of the posts above were replies to me, and thank you! I havent had time yet to sit down and play with the pick ups again, so I dunno what so of sound I'll get. Just out of interest, with some of the settings above, are you using distortion on the amp, or through a separate pedal? If its the Amp distortion channel, what gain/trebble/middle/bass/contour settings do you use, cos I think this is where I fall down and get a crap sound. Obviously everyone wants to find their own sound, and Im not necessarily looking for a May sound, just a solid setting for rhythm and lead, or at least a couple of options! If you want to hear my problems for yourself, trot over to my band's myspace (link and listen to My Salvation on the player - thats me and my BM 2006 along with my mate on a PRS Santana playing the rhythm, and just me on slightly badly played lead (I rushed cos we were short of time); the rhythm is good enough, but the lead sounds really odd. Cheers guys! |
BUofM24 21.03.2007 15:24 |
hey by the way... on those recordings i posted everything was full up... gain/treble... so im sure if you took your time more authentic sounds could come out of the pedal |
BUofM24 25.03.2007 20:55 |
my last post was the green light of all 7 tones... this is the red side... played is KYA again not much difference... bo rhap rock part... tie your mother down solo attempt... we are the champions... crazy little thing called love (dont really know how to play it but just to show the tone)... orchestral harmonizer improv... a winter's tale solo... enjoy!! P.S. i think all of these tones not as good as the green light tones, exception of a winter's tale or the harmonizer... they all sound like bad versions of the green light... but all demos are just for show here is the link:link |
john bodega 26.03.2007 06:04 |
Hmmm. That could be *any* pedal invented after 1990; with those settings anyway!! |
Adam Baboolal 26.03.2007 06:53 |
Hah, for real... I've said this before, but, when some kid (not on this forum) can make the pedal sound good and a magazine (Guitarist) can't, you know it's a very hit and miss pedal. Adam. |
john bodega 26.03.2007 07:31 |
Maybe I'll get dogpiled for this; But it's all in the fingers! |
BUofM24 26.03.2007 16:51 |
ya it could be any pedal... but obviously its the brian may pedal we are talking about here |
john bodega 27.03.2007 07:53 |
Well.... what I was basically getting at, is that some tweaking of the settings is in order. As much as I'd love an array of chorus sounds packaged in a neat red pedal; if it's advertised as giving me 'the' sound, I'd sort of want it to deliver! :P Having said that, I have heard samples of the pedal that are spot on. It is, however, clearly not something that one can just pick up and expect to rock out immediately (just look it up on Youtube). |
Adam Baboolal 27.03.2007 07:55 |
Yeah, the tools on youtube! HAH! It really does need work put in, doesn't it? Adam. |
john bodega 27.03.2007 12:50 |
I mean... well, to be fair, I have two videos of myself playing Sitar on Youtube, so I'd qualify as a tool :P All the same, it just hurts watching some of the videos there.... I can't afford the pedal you see, and it pains me to see someone using it who can't!! Then again, I'm quite happy with my ME-50 to be honest. The sounds one can get just from the Resonance pedal is good enough for me. |
BUofM24 27.03.2007 15:57 |
haha well i agree with you ive seen a bunch of people on youtube that cannot play guitar AT ALL... im not saying that im great or nething because i know im not matter of fact ive only been playing a short while... so w\e... neways look at this: link |

Well... calling all UK guitarists who want this pedal! Have just found it for £129!! link You know, I think I'll just buy it, try things out and then resell it for a profit. At that price, it's far more enticing. Adam. |
