Every little kid knows that Queen played in Leiden on 20th September 1984 :-) Now I got an email saying that the gig sold out pretty fast and Queen added another gig for 19th September 1984. Is there anybody who can confirm / deny this? I don't have Greg's book here with me but I don't remember seeing this data in any book or on any internet site at all. But the date IS on the 1984 tour T-shirt.
Dear Martin
I just saw your 1974 tour dates and I think the 1974 Australian gig is not there. That one where they were introduced by a guy who hated british bands (as told in As It Began).
Someone in this forum said he had a video copy of that performance, and a lot of people said that it could not be true.
I don't know what finally happened.
Thanks
You mean Sunbury 1974 and that date is so well-known. I don't think Martin forgot that one.
Anyway, can't help you Martin with the Leiden show, I wasn't even born. ;-)
There was just one date on the works tour in Holland, 20 September 1984. I've been there, it was my first big concert ever. The tickets sold out in one day, i got mine at the(in those days) at the VVV(dutch Tourist Information)for just 27,50(gulden not euro's).
It was a great concert(i was 14 years old) and one hell of a introduction to live music.
Things i remember:
1. it started around 20.15 with "airrace" the support-act. I don't remember them and never heard of them again.
2. Some girls in the front rows passed-out when Freddie entered the stage(strange isn't it, but it happened).
3. I was deaf for two days because i was standing in front of the left stage(PA)speakers.
4. I couldn't speak for two days because of all the singing.
5. My sister was also with me and she was a big "Elvis" fan. The big surprise for her was that Queen played "Jailhouse Rock" in their encore.
Well thats it, and then there is 19 June 1986, the last time i saw them(The original "Queen" with Freddie Mercury and John Deacon that is).
CMG - Sunbury is listed among the "Queen I" gigs which is not really exact but I thought "Queen II" was even less appropriate...
Rock It - are you 100% sure? Because this guy even sent me scans of his original tour T-shirt and the 19.9.1984 date is indeed listed there.
And... the concert at the 20th was my best concert ever... What a show and what a audience!! I think i lost my voice for over a week:) Never heard so much singing in my life!!
And for the extra concert.. i think it was held in Brussels.
I remember also there was some extra in Brussels to shoot the HTF video...

Yes, i am sure about the one date(20-09-1984 Leiden). I would have known if there was a extra concert. There was a extra concert in Belgium on the 21th of september(Brussels). For more information see: link.
I have a "The Works" tour T-shirt, also with all the dates and i pursued the (official)T-shirt on the night of the concert, and there is no 19th September show on there. Maybe they did plan a extra concert(enough demand fore another show) in Holland, but logistically it couldn't be done? I mean 18th sept. Paris and 19th sept. in Leiden, it's a pretty long drive from Paris to Leiden(Holland).

Mr.scully,
Now i see, link is your very own, wonderful website, isn't it. I like your website and now i understand why you are so persisting about this. But again there was no extra concert in 1984 in Holland. Maybe the date got printed on a bunch of T-shirts, but the concert it self never took place.
Greetings,
FunIt.
Rock It - yes, I did check my site before asking ;-)
Anyway, here is the T-shirt: link
But I trust you. I also assume this guy is wrong. I can't imagine "discovering" such a gig after so many years.
Is this a real shirt that was made by the band? or some immitation copy that some one sold cheap around the gigs? I remember some of the Queen gigs, people were selling off-brand t-shirts.
First time I ever saw that date for that tour.

Kosimodo.... did you ever made photographs of the Queen concerts you've visited? Please send me an e-mail (I could not see you email adress in your profile)
Sorry for stealing your topic Martin :-)
Dear Don,
I was there the 20th, the one and only concert in Holland on this tour. There have been rumours about an extra gig, but instead Queen gave an extra concert the day after in Brussels...
