I was wondering what Queen songs you guys would recommend listening to when one is down or depressed. I mean nothing of the hard rock type, something that will soothe your mind. The one that instantly springs to mind is "Spread Your Wings", "You're My Best Friend" and "Friends Will Be Friends". Any more? |

"You And I" always takes me away to that special place. It has such a beautiful meaning, it's so innocent yet so pure. "Music is playing in the darkness and a lantern goes swinging by...Shadows flickering, my heart's jittering...just you and I" Yet another one of those special songs that I hold close to my heart is "Dear Friends." When I first heard this song I immediatly softened up and lost control of my emotions. It's the song I'll often use to sooth my soul after having lost a love. "So dear friends your love has gone, only tears to dwell upon...I dare not say as the wind must blow...so a love is lost, a love is won...go to sleep and dream again, soon your hopes will rise and then from all this gloom life can start anew and there'll be no crying soon." "My Melancholy Blues" is probably one of Freddie's most gentle songs. It's the kind of song that you can just kick back and relax and take a load off of your shoulders. Need I say more? I think you've got the idea. |

Really, there are too many to name. But included would be Don't Try Suicide, Seaside Rendezvous, Spread Your Wings, amd (oddly enough) Long Away. The linge "Take heart, my friend, we love you/though it seems like your alone..." Has always been great at making me feel that there was someone who can help. And that thought cheers me so. Oh, and I agree with the person who said, "Any John Deacon song." So true. DoBSTeR |

Leaving out the heavy songs.... Bring Back That Leroy Brown '39 Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon You and I The Millionaire Waltz Sleeping on the Sidewalk My Melancholy Blues (good one to sing to) Don't Stop Me Now Calling All Girls Staying Power (on Fire At The Bowl) Play The Game All God's People These are all songs I usually sing to in my high falsetto. I Want To Break Free: No matter what is going on, this song always makes me smirk a little bit. Freddie just seems so happy and alive when he sings it. It's a song about a person so fed up with crap that he/she just has to break free and get away from it all. It's perfect for a car ride with the windows down and is also a good beat to walk to. I absolutely love this song and it is the reason I fell in love with Queen. John Deacon wrote one helluva song. Keep Yourself Alive: It makes me want to rock out and give the finger to anyone or anything getting in the way of me living my life. Excellent rocker I Was Born to Love You: This is the one of the last Queen related songs I was ever introduced to and it remains a favorite. It doesn't get any radio play and probably will never be featured in a commercial or movie soundtrack but the feelings convey are so honest and are shared with nothing held back. Its another one that forces me to smile whenver I hear it. It also makes me want to get up and dance around wherever I am. I'll always have a special place for this one. most of my others have already been discussed so I wont waste your time. But something else that always cheers me up is the video on youtube that comes up when you search "In My Defence" (i dont like posting links) So check it out for yourself. It is an excellent fan tribute set to the Freddie song. It makes me think of what an extraordinary person Freddie was and how he lived his life with so much passion. Not only does it cheer me up but sometimes I feel like I want to cry but not out of sadness, just because I miss Freddie and the way he inspired me and many others. wonderful Band. We all can agree |

Well, there're some Queen songs that, when I'm feeling down, make me cry, but cheer me up at the same time, you know what I mean? These Are The Days of Our Lives, Save Me, We Are The Champions (I know it's strange!) White Queen (As It Began) It's a Hard Life Old Friends (by Roger Taylor) There Must Be More To Life Than This. And some of them just make me smile. Funny how Love Is Crazy Little Thing Called Love Mr Bad Guy Delilah Seaside Rendezvous Killer Queen Fairy-Feller's Master Stroke I Want To Break Free And Friends Will Be Friends always brings a smile to my face. By the way, I know the list was long, but Queen songs do that to me ;-) |

The entire back to the light album (brian May solo) always cheers me up, I doubt even Brian himself realises the emotional power of his own album. Tie your mother down is a good one too (but then my parents are the ones who tend to put me in a bad mood, a case of I wish my mother was tied down!) No one but you (only the good die young) can be quite moving, its a shame so people forget about that song. |
Nevermind 23.02.2007 14:49 |
I know this is a strange one but Under Pressure really chears me up, soon as Deaky's bass line comes in I'm really happy. Another strange thing I found that when ever I was ill even with a really bad headache listening to Queen made me feel better. I find that one strange. |

Some Roger Taylor penned Queen songs cheer me up. I like the cheesy sound of them and the fun lyrics. Roger writes like he just wants to have as much fun as possible. -Coming soon is by far the best example of it. It really gets me in the mood to party every time I hear it. -I'm in love with my car is another great example. -touch the sky is also a great tune. |
