According to a ticker on VH1 classic metal mania...The Police are rehearsing in Vancouver's Lions Gate studios and will announce a tour in February. I'm looking for something more official but haven't found it yet. This would be cool. If they come by me, I will so go see them. XD |

The Police is rather boring. Most of the songs have the exact same reggae riff. The only songs I like are 'Every Breath You Take', 'Wrapped Around Your Finger', and 'Canary In A Coldmine'. |

TQ telling Bob to get some taste then asking for a blackcurrant cheesecake? Beep! DOES NOT COMPUTE! I do enjoy the musical stylings of The Police. I also like Sting and his appearance on the Simpsons. Marge: Sting, you look tired. Maybe you should take a rest. Sting: Not while one of my fans needs me. Marge: Actually, I don't know if I've ever heard Bart play one of your albums. Homer: Shhhh. Marge, he's a good digger! Heh, classic, classic. |

Lester Burnham 29.01.2007 17:57 |
Newsflash: people like different kinds of music. Not everyone will like what someone else likes. Continuously putting down someone based on what kind of music they like makes you look stupid. Telling someone what they should and shouldn't like makes you look like a snob. |
thomasquinn 32989 29.01.2007 18:18 |
Newsflash: apart from the subjective, there is also an objective part to music. A pig having a go at a keyboard is not good music: therefore, Duran Duran rates as crap. A genius composition needn't be interesting to listen to; take Bach, for instance. However, when someone comes up and says that <X> is bad music, when that <X> produces music that is innovative and interesting on the theoretical and creative front, the person stating the slagging is guilty of being a musical moron, regardless of taste. There are plenty of musicians I don't like, but whose genius I can appreciate. Take Ray Charles and J.S. Bach to name just two. Jingles should learn to do the same, as should certain others. |
Lester Burnham 29.01.2007 18:58 |
Caspar, no matter how educated musically you may be, you can't convince someone who likes Duran Duran that they're shit. Me, I happen not to like The Police, but like Sting. I can't explain why, there's just something I like about Sting that I don't like in The Police, but even if I knew the reason, I wouldn't tell anyone anyway. I like what I like and that's all that matters, and I'm not going to have some loudmouth jackass who thinks he knows everything about everything tell me what I should and shouldn't like and why I should or shouldn't like anything. You have your opinions and that's great, but you have to realize that your opinions are not facts, and that not everyone is going to agree with you. |
thomasquinn 32989 29.01.2007 19:06 |

Lester Burnham 29.01.2007 20:01 |
No, I don't think I have: 1. Sasha reported that The Police were reforming. 2. Most people said "hey cool!" 3. Jingles said he doesn't like The Police. 4. You called him, in as many words, musically ignorant for not liking The Police. 5. People called you out for displaying musical arrogance. 6. You defended your position by stating that Jingles was wrong for not having the same musical taste as you. So what's the point that I've evidently missed? That Jingles -- and everyone else on this board -- should like the music that you like, because you apparently know so much about music? |
PieterMC 29.01.2007 20:39 |

I suppose my point was neither that I am a huge Police fan nor that I think they are great. I like the Police, and ultimately the thing is, IMO...I think it's great that they are putting aside past petty differences to give a chance to the fans who never got to see them perform as a group, that opportunity. And I, for one, would take it. I think its kind of sad when a band makes great music together, then dis-bands and the hopes of their fans of getting to see that are kind of crushed. Like the Beatles...could never put past differences aside and re-unite, even for a performance or two. Now there are only two left and it can never happen. So I gotta give props to The Police for making this happen for their fans and putting a few bucks in their own pockets in the process. Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers deserve the opportunity to be back in the spotlight. After all, isn't that kind of what Brian and Roger did? I can only hope someday Soda Stereo does the same. I would pole dance for the pope for the chance to see that. *I'd also like to see the Talking Heads tour. |

Okay - to throw more coals on the fire....... The Beatles, great band, sold a gazillion records, No1's on every planet in the Universe....if all 4 Beatles were still alive and announced they would play Hyde Park for free for the next 6 months, I wouldn't go. Same theory as a lot of bands out there - I may like a few songs but not enough to get excited and watch a gig - simple. Except Jazz - that sucks arse big time. |

@Dan When he was in New York over the summer he did an interview with Patrick Ambrose from The Morning News and said, “The time that has passed since the breakup of Soda Stereo is similar to when you split up with a girlfriend, and after several years, you reach a point where you might find her attractive again.” That sounds to me like he may be considering, and Soda, being heavily influenced by The Police...It would be awesome if they followed suit. Here's a link, just in case you're interested. And if not, that's okay too. link Hope that works. |
