This one is especially for "on my way up", because it's (I think) his favourite show! Queen Tokyo, Japan Nippon Budokan May 9, 1985 This is an upgrade of the already fantastic recording from Queen's last ever show at the Budokan, from the good folks at the Wardour label. This show is one of my personal favourites, as Freddie Mercury's voice is unbelievably powerful on this night. This is surely the best show of the Works tour in my eyes (two days before the officially-released one, where Freddie's voice isn't quite so strong). Wardour claims their copy is from the master, and I have no reason to doubt it. The sound is impeccably clear, with no flaws in sight. "At Last Budokan" (Wardour) silvers > CDR (1) > WAV > FLAC frontend (level 8) Disc 1: Machines (tape) Tear It Up Tie Your Mother Down Under Pressure Somebody To Love Killer Queen Seven Seas Of Rhye Keep Yourself Alive Liar Band improv It's A Hard Life Vocal improv Dragon Attack Now I'm Here Is This The World We Created? Love Of My Life Disc 2: Guitar solo / Brighton Rock (finale) Another One Bites The Dust Hammer To Fall Crazy Little Thing Called Love Bohemian Rhapsody Radio Ga Ga I Want To Break Free Jailhouse Rock We Will Rock You We Are The Champions God Save The Queen Here are the links to all six parts: link link link link link link Distribute these files only if they are left completely unaltered. As always with my shares, be sure that this recording is not made available at Queenzone or elsewhere in mp3 or any other lossy format. Keep lossless files lossless. Enjoy! |

Thanks for sharing this great concert. Indeed, this was the greatest Works concert. After listening to other Works concerts i couldn´t believe that Freddie would recover his throat like this. Take care |
on my way up 27.01.2007 15:42 |
Yes, this show is absolutely incredible!Freddie was really fantastic, what a difference with the filmed show from two days later. He nails every song and he does so with incredible power. It's a hard life, somebody to love, improvisation, dragon attack,...They all sound much better than most the other versions from this tour. |

Many thanks for that. It reminds me i have a small snippet from the previous day (08/05) gig on video, from the Japanese TV - I dont want to start false speculations, but it looks like all cameras were set-up at this first Tokyo gig - maybe as a camera rehearsal, or to record additional footage a la Wembley 86... no idea, nor i have the background to research it further..... link -link no longer valid , please ask somebody to repost if needed- |

wow, that clip is impressive. I really hope there is some more footage of that night. Does anyone have a sound recording of that show because I would like to know if freddie's voice was as good as 5/9/1985? Queen Productions should get their hands on such things and then surprise us but that isn't going to happen , isn't it? |
little foetus 28.01.2007 09:00 |
A recording exists but in my opinion, it is quite bad. I rated it as good +. It was recorded much too loud and the copies that are circulating have a too fast pitch. I have not corrected mine yet but it is a project. However, because of the crappy quality, it is really for die hard collectors so it is much less enjoyable than all the other recordings of this tour. |

Grab the bootleg, and give us all a review. I certainly won't be the one to do it, because I don't think I'd have the patience to sit through a recording that sounds that bad! :) |

Hello, fellow music geek. I'm pretty sure it's the audience that are hitting the high C, not Freddie. But it's hard to tell! Of all the recordings in existence (that I can recall off the top of my head), he hits the high C on 12-4-79, 12-26-79, 10-17-81, and 7-13-85 - but not always cleanly. |

Ah thanks Sir GH. Audience on form then as well as Freddie! Though the way he builds up to it, and the notes immediately afterwards, remind me of Live Aid... While we're wallowing in our geekiness, do you know which other concerts, apart from Live Aid and the Live Killers version, does he sing the chorus at the pitch from the album as opposed to an octave lower? Just off the top of your head :p |

Just off the top of your head :pEven on his best nights, he almost always sang it an octave lower, because Roger was singing the upper octave. He always saved his voice whenever he could. I really can't recall him ever singing it exactly like the album version. |

Hi, I am just a newbie at collecting Queen concerts. I checked out your fantastic website and am trying to find the top ten concerts that you recommended because I had no idea where to start. I was wondering if you would do me (and lots of others, I'm sure) a favor and re-upload this concert to Mediafire or Rapidshare so us new people can experience what I gather is a great concert. I hope this is not too much for a newbie to ask... :) Thanks!!! |
