CHICAGO,Illinois(AP)--Former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry
sang the national anthem just before the NFC title game on Sunday
between the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. The
performance was aired on FOX television and viewers as well as onlookers
at the stadium noticed Daughtry tearing up at the end of the
performance. It was thought at the time that Daughtry was taken by the
moment. Daughtry had long struggled as a musician before realizing his
dream with the release of his self titled debut album "Daughtry" and
then culminating with him singing the national anthem on national
television. It was later reported that Daughtry told those close to him
after the performance that he was crying because he "pinched one off"
during the song and was concerned that fans at the stadium and
television viewers had seen him relieve himself. This quote was later
confirmed when a camera crew from a different television network
witnessed him saying this to a friend as he walked off the field.
Daughtry's album was released on November 21, 2006 and has become the
largest selling debut rock album in the first week in chart history.
