Hooray ! Well, I have a talent show audition in ... I don't remember when, but soon enough. And I signed up out of guilt for the teacher... I need to do SOMETHING. I want to sing a song. Since my parents decided to poo-poo singing lessons for now, I didn't get to learn the song I would have liked to sing (I would have liked to sing the "Habañera" aria from Carmen and twisted someone's arm to play piano accompaniment for me). I suppose I'm leaning towards something Queen - since I already "know them". I want something with a nice range (but I can't go loudly below the F below Middle C) that would be a song I could move around while singing (as opposed to standing at the mic, still). I'm not really sure, if you're just one person on a stage with a probably crap karaoke tape behind you, what's best ? I would LIKE to move around - but I don't know if one person on stage doing that would look stupid. Would a costume be too much (I wouldn't be dressing up as Freddie, though) ? Would it be better to "deal with it" and sing something like "Teo Torriate" at a mic, not really moving but arms ? Opinions ? I know it's a dumb, egotistical thread, but I would appreciate any advice. I'm also open to a non-Queen song. : / Advice/suggestions are welcome. And if you need to flame me, please do so in the most august manner. |

Oooh! I LOVE the idea of singing a Queen song for the talent show...as for the song, It really depends on your vocal ability and your "area" (but I've heard you sing..and you're FANTASTIC! :DDDD) I'm sure you could handle it all VERY well. :)...as for the costume question...perhaps something "interesting" but not too flashy.........just a formal attire...or a sparkly black dress or something (if you were to sing a slow song by the microphone (such as TT). I think a more casual attire would suit a faster song.........and being able to move more on the stage, it's more comfortable. But a formal "dressing" could be used for a slow song. I'm sorry if I confused you....the right words aren't coming out XD ;_; Sorry... |

I'm currently considering "Ogre Battle" - though I'm not sure it has enough actual 'singing' in it. But that's the kind of thing I'm looking for - high energy, and not dropping to Baritone range. As for the clothes... I'm just trying to work it out... : / I think I'm going to overdress in something silly (especially if I do "Ogre Battle"). And you make sense ! My mom is just not really "helping" me (she said, 'sing something' - but then she only makes a joke about singing the song that's currently on the radio...)... I'm cool as a cucumber. |

^ Indeed you are. And Ogre Battle is perfect...It's pretty easy too...nothing THAT tricky (with the voice I mean) :) |

^ That's retarded. Charles is a different kind of singer...he wouldn't want to come off as a cowboy. LMAO!!!! XD Good one Danny :P |

Miami Vice wrote: Charles if you perform Crazy Little Thing Called Love, you can just strung on the guitar and the audience may clap along with the song.Sadly, that's one of the more "Baritone" songs - and I don't think I could hit the low notes - or at least hit them in a way that sounds decent. My list so far... -Ogre Battle -Spread Your Wings -The Show Must Go On (But this feels a little too sombre to me...) In the naughty vein - I would love to do "Let Me Entertain You" - but I don't think it would pass. And even I was was doing something like that - I wouldn't be being low about it. <font color="0000FF">Thing #1<h6>hehe :D wrote: Lol. I was just being boring and pointing out the obvious ! I have the 'balls' to sing something like that in front of my school, but I don't think it would pass with the people who decide what's in the show. Plus, I'm not Britney Spears. I aim to be tasteful, not low class. |

I'd have to say the best one would be Don't Stop Me Now. It has a good range of vocals, and it would be a good song to "move around the stage" with. |

Yeah, those kiddies might be all weird when they hear you going, Ahhh, ahh ahh ah ahhhhh! In Ogre Battle. |

Awwww, I wish you could sing "Habañera" ;__; But since it's out of the picture, I think the best song to sing from your list would be "Spread Your Wings". :D Actually, I just said that because that song is stuck in my head.... O_o Sing whatever you feel more comfortable singing. It might not be the one you want to sing, but if you feel it'll get you to pass, then do it! This is a bit random, but do you get nervous in front of judges or audiences? |

Chahlesito :0- I know nothing of music, so I won't attempt to go deep into this... But I'm pretty confident that your judgement will choose the perfect song. For example, when I first read this thread, I tried to think of some songs without reading the replies. I was stumped and decided to read.. When I saw "Ogre Battle", I though, "Of course! Aahhh!" |

Charles you have a GORGEOUS voice. I like the idea of you singing 'Teo Torriate' I think you'd suit that song! |

Charles, I heard you sing right now and I gotta tell you, your voice is terrific! You sound GREAT!!!! I think you can sing any song you want. I agree with Tessa, 'Teo Torriate' would be a perfect choice for you. :) Lovely voice! I really enjoyed listening to you! I know how hard it is to perform without accompaniment, so hats off to you for doing such a terrific job all by yourself!!! |

I haven't heard you (though I REALLY WANT TO), but I think Spread Your Wings, Teo Torriatte, or maybe My Melancholy Blues (?) would be really cool. But, like Pomponias said, whatever you want is what is good. Good luck!!! :D DoBBieS DeaCoN DaRKo DuRDeN DuMoNT |

^^^^^ O.o well charles, on your blog i listened to your songs. your voice has a good tone, but the pitch is constantly lost. im sure its because of singing without accompaniment, which is difficult, but its not bad. id like to hear what it sounds like with music, im sure it would be lovely :) sorry if i sound overcritical. |

^ Don't be sorry ! That's EXACTLY the kind of thing I want to hear. I like compliments, sure, but I know my singing isn't perfect (and I want to know how to get better), or my drawing isn't perfect - and I usually have to pressure people into giving me a fair review, since it seems most people are in super-compliment most of the time. : P So, thank you. I think sometime I will record "Teo Torriate" and "The Show Must Go On" and see what people think. I'll either try to find a karaoke track or sing it with the song in headphones (which I would have done before... but the stupid sound programme is so slow and I would want to edit out long pauses so people don't have to extend their torture that much longer !). I need to eat food... |
