As some of you may know I'm new here on Queenzone. Right now I have a request. I am curious to know what are your "preferred" key signatures. Just give me a brief explanation as to why it is your preferred key signature to write in. For any of you who do not compose, I apoligize. I appreciate the feedback.
Also, I wouldn't mind it if you were to tell me of your preferred chord progressions...that would help me a lot with what I'm researching. Once again, thank you very much...
I'll take it that their aren't that many composers/music teachers here on Queenzone? Tis a shame...well, if their is anybody out there please leave me a reply regarding the topic of this thread. I'm just a tad curious...that's all!
Cheers
On the piano I very frequently find myself noodling in F phrygian.
Aside from that, I wouldn't say I have a favourite key, but I definitely favour playing in flat keys, with G minor probably being my favourite key out of these, from the purely physical aspect of playing in it.
I like C minor. Do you?
And if I'd tell you about my favourite chord progressions I'd probably be giving away some of my genious ideas.
I like E minor too. But hey, I like food as well.
Well...
B flat: for anything that's ballad-like, my preferred key is this one; it has that bluesy-sound that made it such a favorite of Charles Mingus'. I don't have anything to add to that.
E flat: like the above, only Mingus didn't use it. I don't like using it on the guitar, though, as the chords are not only unpleasant to play, but do not sound too good either. Still, lovely with bass / piano.
D major: preferred folk-key, for all my fingerpicking-style songs, I prefer this one over C.
C melodic minor: lovely for the melancholic melodies, and very satisfactory for use with a guitar playing minor seventh chords in C natural minor.
I like what ever....
I will really play in any Key I'm told because I'm a drummer at the moment... but on Piano Bass And Guitar, it doesn't really bother me (mostly because I don't really care about them, if it works it works and I play it.)
